Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch |OT| Starving for a Harvest

My eight year old is enjoying it, he needs a bit of help though especially with fishing. My five year old likes walking around and chopping down trees until he passes out

Thanks decided to just jump in and see if I like it . It’s a great price and I’ve heard so many good things . Even if it doesn’t end up being my type of game it was still worth the risk .

Got to level 95 mine after after exhausting every food items, refined all the gold and iron, put bait into all fishing barrel trap things, went to sleep. BAMM. "Game crash, game closed because error occurred." Well yeah, no shit. Rage quit
The crashes will only get worse if it's anything like I had. I would clench my buttcheeks every time I had go to bed. Got to the point where it crashed even if I went straight to sleep. No clue what causes it and I'm hoping for a patch soon. Till then I got a copy on steam and had to start over on there :/ it's not the same.

So how long does spring last ? I got a note that my crops will die in summer, so I want to plan accordingly.

Also, what can we grow during summer since we won't have crops ?

Another question , our farm has a lot of junk in the huge perimeter , trees, rocks, grass, etc.. do you guys clean and chop down everything , even in the limits of your farm?

Also, I am just 2 weeks in, and it is impossible to find good gifts for the birthday people. I never have what they really want

My wife just started playing and she’s having a very rough time. The complete lack of tutorial is off putting, and the controls aren’t well explained. I’d say it relies on the player having some basic knowledge of crafting, which may not be entirely unreasonable given it was a PC game first, and Minecraft is one of the most popular games on the planet. However, if you’ve never dabbled in a sim before, you’ll have a bad time in the beginning. It’s especially difficult due to the limited inventory space and the lack of a chest/stash to start with. Crafting also happens to be instant and done from a menu you can pull up anywhere, which is convenient, but my wife accidentally crafted a gate and other things just because she was trying to figure out the controls. She ended up putting the gates down in a random location just to free up inventory space until she realized she could build a chest. Its not as if she’s a complete newcomer to games, as she’s played a few RPGs and lives Fire Emblem. It’s frustrating because everything else about the game is so charming, but it really needs a tutorial for people who have never played a sim in their lives.

I'm close to ending Year 1 and I have a question:

Is there any reason to upgrade the Watering Can to steel, if I have sufficient materials to craft multiple Quality Sprinklers?

Define “multiple”. I planted like four or five hundred crops on day one of Spring Year 2. I pretty much always stick with watering can until I can craft 20+ Iridium sprinklers. But then I have a ton of gold and haven’t had anything meaningful to spend it on in ages.

Watering can upgrades are probably more lucrative, but if you’re already bought everything you care about, low-effort income might be fine for you.

I'm in Spring Year 2 and I feel I'm behind in everything. Haven't finished the community centre, haven't unlocked the desert or the greenhouse, just started a barn and coop, and I'm always low on gold. I feel like I'm just slowly grinding the days away now with little progress.

I've been hording most of my fishes and minerals, as well as most of my crops. Should I just straight up start selling them, or is there an easy way to turn them into something more profitable? Right now, my grapes are going into kegs for wines and blackberries are going into the preserves.

Caved and bought it last night. Slow movement speed and annoying fishing compared to pc version (with mods) is a downer but playing an hr in bed every night before sleep is a treat.

There were petals in the air and I couldn't resist taking some snaps of my farm so far. Happy with where it's at but still far from completion!

How is your farm at the top of those steps?

I don't have any higher places in my farm. Is it random?

Boy am I glad it's spring again, because The Wind Can Be Still was giving me too many feelings :(

Me too, except without the animals. I'm focusing on getting the desert unlocked for now, assuming that is the Path to Riches, with which I will then go back to farming and building stuff. Checking the traveling cart in the meantime. I'm so glad they sell fish. Stupid fish.

I make my money right now by mining, just running through some of the lower levels after everything else is closed, cruising for gems. I seem to have a glitch of some kind lately where Magma Geodes give me Neptunite 90% of the time, which is nice and profitable.

The game hasn't let me talk to Robin for a few days now, but I can still gift her stuff or buy from her. Am I missing something here or am I dealing with a glitch? And if so can I fix it? Because I was under the impression the game lets me talk to every NPC at least once a day.

So, I tried playing this on my monitor and it is pixelated that makes it unplayable for me. What should I do to make it look nice? Any suggestion?
So I built the little coupe for farm animals but it's empty. How do I actually acquire animals in there? Do I also have to get a Silo first?
Buy it from Marnie.

What do you mean by pixelated?

Like, the 16 bit sprite art? That's just how the game looks.

Maybe look into adding a scanline filter.

Ah, so those jagged edges (I think what is called) I see is how the game really looks? It's just distracting when in docked mode.

Fishing is significantly easier if you munch a +skill food and have a Trap Bobber. If you’re having trouble fishing, make friends with Willy (he loves Mead, which is easy to produce) and set crab pots on the Beach. Horde crab pot animals for cooking, especially lobsters and snails. Otherwise, just gotta grind out some levels.

Do you need a trap bobber every time you fish? Or is one enough for life?

Winter 12 of year 2 and I started crashing every time I went to sleep. Eventually just went to sleep immediately after waking up to avoid whatever triggers the crash... only to crash again the next day. So that save file's unable to progress until the game gets patched, unless someone has another work-around.

It wears down. So have a spare on you if you're gonna go fishing.

Yep. And sometimes they show up in Chests. Also Willy sells them. Obviously it’s more profitable to craft them yourself, but the benefit of being high level in Fishing skill is so significant that it’s worth spending money to get there.

I hold when going up and tap to control going down.

Especially when the fish is hitting the bottom- you need to tap so you slowly hit the bottom and don't bounce off it.

but yeah you need a bit of luck with the harder fish.

was about to catch 5 still a bit frustrating

I can't wait for upgrades that makes the safe area for the bar wider

So in the quest to find
the mayors purple shorts I can’t help but see them in marnies room...? They doing the dirty??

Yeah there’s some scenes that make it clear. Also the Mayor just goes to hang out at Marnie’s sometimes, and they’re almost always together at festivals.

The game does some good social world-building outside of dialog with routines and gift preferences and stuff. Like obviously Penny’s mom is an alcoholic but the game follows through on that with Penny hating gifts of alcohol and never showing up the bar even on Friday when most people pop in.

What do you normally do when you are bored at a party?

Look, the game always has some kind of activity or cutscene for the season events, why would I think to leave now after being conditioned that something will happen before I leave?

All events so far start and end with the mayor and so far I can't talk to the mayor
