Autumn Anime 2017 |OT| Makes us all rotten

Such a shame about Just Because! And it was a really cute, down to Earth anime too. Was feeling like it'd be one of the strongest titles this season. I feel really bad for everyone who's going to be pushed to the brink with overtime and still come out with subpar to what the original vision was.

I really hope they make it through. It is one of the few new shows I care about this season. But this kind of forcing it through always seemed bad to me. Much better for everyone if it’s delayed a bit.

So glad more granblue was announced.

Nope, not interested unless they remove Mr Gran McBland and focus on DJ instead like episode 13 did. Episode 13 was the best episode of the first season by far, and a new project should be made in a similar vain.

Never made sense why Gran was made MC of the first season in the first place when DJ completely annihilates him in terms of popularity.

Maturity, bitches.
Just Because's problems began when I chose to substitute it with Pingu for the OP.

I clearly made the right choice.

Man, shame about the issues with Just Because!, was loving it so far.

Children of the Whales - 2

This is so beautiful. Still enjoying it a lot, worldbuilding is still quite nice and I'm intrigued.

That ending tho, same deal as Mahoutsukai no Yome...
At least it adds to the JRPG feeling :V

Garo - Vaninishing Line: 2

That's a good improvement over the first episode, the action was a lot easier to follow and loved Luke's little flick to reload his gun, more of that please. The transformation scene was great too, that's a decent jump from the first episode.

The two leads have decent chemistry with each other, can't wait to see them more.

Dragonball Super - 111

If only half the duration of the tournament was like 20 episodes, how long are we going to wait before the Goku vs Jiren rematch?

I didn't realize my amazon music promo sign up code was only good for a single order and not $10 in general.

oh well lol

just a heads up i did the same thing but when i went to order something today i still had part of that credit left

Better than episode 1 for sure. Looks like Umaru might be growing up a bit this season?

sounds like netflix has a lot of anime planned

On a video call with analysts this afternoon, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos clarified that a sizable chunk of that $8 billion will go toward toward producing 30 new anime series and 80 new original films, all slated for release in 2018. While the company has often kept concrete viewership numbers under wraps, Sarandos’ willingness to drop the anime and film metrics is a positive sign that its investments in those areas are going well.

Oof. The Japanese VAs totally nailed their characters. It would be hard to fins a cast that can top them.

It'd be tough, but Funi definitely has a lot of really good comedic VAs in their talentpool. I'd definitely want Alejandro Saab/Kaggyfilms to voice Kazuma.

Maybe Netflix can finally save Berserk.

The only thing I hate about Netflix for anime is the fact that their subs are not hard coded into the video. So a sentence could appear and only give you 2 seconds to read it all. I don't care nearly as much about the delay, just hard-code or fix your damn subs another way.

I would pay to watch the new season of Spice and Wolf if it follow the novel but then, how many season can you make from Spice and Wolf as the novel is now complete the last time I heard.

Arent there a lot of books left to adapt? Wikipedia also says that the series is ongoing. I assumed it was complete.

Shokugeki no Souma S2 OVA 1–2

Decided to watch these again and refresh my memory before starting up Season 3. Always great to see Megumi and her ping-pong skills at work. And always love when they put important bits of story into OVA...ffs...

Netflix plz give us new seasons of Spice and Wolf and Chihayafuru

YES PLEASE!!!!

Just double check and nope, it's not done yet in Japan still. A complete "Anniversary Collector's Edition" omnibus compiling the first 17 volumes was released on October 4, 2016. That might be might confusion come from. Either way, I don't mind if they is few season for this show but might want to stick to the main story line not the side story from what I heard.

Uh, that's a pretty big rewrite. Completely changes Shinobu's character and the point of the entrance exam. I don't hold the manga in high regard, but it's still lame. Guess that solidifies that Santa won't be appearing.

Heaven's Feel: 413 million yen in 2 days.

Sudo doing work. ANN also seems to fucking love it, too.

Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel I. presage flower is the best Fate anime so far. Yes, it's even better than Fate/Zero. This is not something I say lightly—Heaven's Feel really does live up to the hype. My only problem with recommending this film is that it's not accessible to people who aren't familiar with the Fate and/or Unlimited Blade Works routes of the visual novel. It's also only part one of a trilogy, meaning that it remains to be seen whether some of the storytelling decisions in this film will pay off by the end.

This show really wants to be serious, but with the episodes being so short and then half of it is just sexual assult, I really don't know what to say here.

30 anime series for a whole year aren't a lot at all. If their target is 30 series for 2018, that seems kinda low really, considering how they already announced like 10 for early 2018 at their conference earlier this year. There's no doubt they are counting both ORIGINAL original titles, as well as the ones they are licensing for worldwide exclusives outside of Japan. Given that Netflix is the leading international streaming business, and how there are dozens of anime series every season in Japan.... I would expect an aggressive push to be closer to 40+ series tbh.

heaven's feel is gonna be three movies???

That was what it was announced as from the start, yes.

amazing, i didn't look into it since i knew the wait would be forever so there's no reason to get hyped

and even though it's coming to the us in nov, it's nowhere near me so getting hype is just going to kill me slowly now

anime is suffering

Netflix: "We need to burn all this money in a year."

Funding Japanese productions is literally fucking nothing. How much do you think one of these projects could possibly cost even if Netflix pays for the whole thing (they aren't for most of these)? 5 million? 10 million? 20 million? That's pretty insignificant considering how Netflix didn't bat an eye at throwing 125 million for a single Martin Scorsese movie.

Up to 19 now plus the spinoff series. And given only 4 volumes were adapted thats years and years of new material.

Made in Abyss 12

I love Nanachis voice. The ending of the episode was...interesting.

Time to dive into the finale. Stoked to see its an hour long. I was like theres no way they wrap anything up in 20 minutes.

Barakamon 1 (Rewatch)

The animation is really delightful throughout this episode; very loose and expressively goofy. This works to best advantage in the portrayal of Naru, whose childish exuberance leaps off the screen with her inability to stay still. It doesn't always compliment the narrative, however. In the flashback to what is basically Handa's "traumatic backstory", his punch of the director who critiqued his calligraphy is comedically exaggerated, which is jarring against the tragically swelling piano and strings music and the horrified gasps of the bystanders. It almost veers into parody, which I can't believe was the intent.

This is a very different show from Masaki Tachibana's most recent work, Princess Principal, but this inability to completely nail the tonal balance between comedy and seriousness is shared between both. I don't want to single out Tachibana for this defect, however, as tonal balance is one of the most common problems for anime in general. It could be a lot worse.

I'd say the fact that it got three smash cuts, with the third being close up and in slow motion, means it was intentionally being played for laughs. At least early on.
