first experience of a 3rd person game in VR, playing Edge of Nowhere, very impressed

I highly recommend Chronos if you're into dungeon crawler/ action rpg games similar to souls (that emphasize blocking and dodging). I'm at the final boss right now so will complete it in the next couple of days once i get chance to get back to it but its taken me atleast 15 hours i think (i wish oculus recorded my play time like steam).

New round of Sound boxing challenges I made over the past 2 days: (I ended up making 8 in one day lol)

I haven't tried Accounting either. I think I passed on it early on since I heard it needed a big play space due to no movement controls (atleast 2m x 2m)? and I'm playing in a 2m x 1.6m space. Would it be an issue for me?

Don't think so. I always get that warning and it never posed a problem.

Played Edge of nowhere for about 3 or 4 hours now really impressed from what ive played, it has some quirks like a lot of cheap platforming deaths unless you jump at the exact time it wants but overall im enjoying it.

I'm liking the story, it is reminding me of how something like Alan Wake presented it's story.

any general consensus on Arktika? i don't particularly trust those dedicated VR sites

i can overlook the teleportation and my fatigue with wave shooters if it is a pretty cool experience. production values look a step up to what i'm used to

Tempted to get Rock Band VR but having a hell of a time trying to work out if it will support my wireless 360 Guitar Hero controller (I have the Xbox 360 pc dongle).

Anyone know about this?

Tried the Skyworld beta. It's not really something I see myself trying out again. Its an interesting concept but it seems there will be a few zero gravity shooters coming out in the span of about a year between this, the ubisoft game and then echo combat, so I'll wait for the latter one since it will use the concepts of echo arena which I really enjoyed.

We Just released a huge update for 2MD (as was mentioned in the last page) and today we actually added more:

Now you can flip plays with a double press on the D pad, affectively giving you 16 custom play configurations to choose from.

For Vive owners, we’ve defaulted running to the touchpad rather than impressed of the D pad which allows for better responsiveness.

But here’s the big thing I didn’t talk about in our patch notes:
we’ve implemented an active field of view for running which should cut down on any nausea or discomfort. I’d really like to get people‘s feedback on this, as I feel like it’s made a huge difference. We implemented this mechanic in our first VR game on PlayStation VR, and it really seems to curb DTe.

Also nobody has picked out the neogaf references yet :) and I worked so hard on them too.

Edit: it would probably be a good idea to include a link, yeah? No really I’m not totally new at this. http://store.steampowered.com/app/674850/2MD_VR_Football/

When does your game come out for Splorgenborg? (dont have the game but looked at the steam screenshots to find some references :D)

If anyone has any requests, I'm happy to take some for times when I can't think of a song to create beatmaps to.

---- Accountancy -----

Tried Acountancy today and loved it. I don't watch rick and morty so can't compare it to that but the humour was very improv so had a unique feel to it.

Unfortunately due to my play space I couldn't reach the phone in the
king+knife
section so I assume I missed some areas, only thing I could do was
use the knife and take the headset from the kings belly.
.

I also couldn't reach the mic button in the
courtroom
(not sure if its pressable or not). Would have been nice for them to add some kind of teleport feature to reposition yourself in the world for people who don't have big enough play spaces (although it felt like I only needed 30cm more to be able to reach the things i couldnt).

even then, I might consider this in my lineup of demos for people playing vr for the first time.

Tomorrow is a good day for new VR game releases.

Luna
- Unique looking puzzle game about a bird that is trying to eat the moon because an owl told him to or something like that. It is from some of the people who made Journey so hopefully it will be decent. Certainly seems different.

Talos Principle - Great game getting a VR upgrade.

Skyworld - A turn based strategy game that turns to mini real time strategy battles when units clash. Made by same developers as Arizona Sunshine and it seems to be getting some positive previews.

and er...a new Halo game

Tried out echo arena finally and my god, having arms is so cool.

I spent 10 minutes just playing catch with some guy in the lobby and it felt so real :D was awesome

Guitar Hero guitar or Rock Band?

Rock Band. Someone on Reddit mentioned they use a GH:WT 360 guitar with no problems. The only issues I could imagine are the fact that the in game model would be slightly different from the in game guitar (which really shouldn't be a problem ultimately), and that the game uses the solo buttons. The latter part wouldn't be an issue during actual songs because you don't have to use them, but you might need them to get through the tutorial.

You can move the playspace using OpenVR Advanced Settings, which is absolutely essential tool.

Finally took the plunge and got a Vive yesterday, yay. Took it for a spin last night and it was awesome, despite only really trying out basic stuff like vr home and google earth.

For some games to start with I was thinking of Space Pirate Trainer, Sound Boxing (mostly because they're cheap) and Arizona Sunshine.

Can't wait to get out of work and get back to trying it out.

SPT is fun. I love the look of it and the types of guns. It is just a wave shooter, so, don't expect long sessions, but, it's great for what it is.

Finally got around to playing Wilson's Heart after buying at sale price. Really good immersion and compelling world. Super light puzzles so far, I mean it's light even for a walking sim, but it's nice nevertheless.

But the voice acting. I can't stop thinking of Mr. Plinkett. Now I really wish it was Mr. Plinkett's origin story complete with appropriate voice overs. Makes a lot of sense for the character too.

Any word on RE7 ir Skyrim VR support?

RE7 VR support was locked down by Sony for 1 year. So the earliest we can get it on PC would be January.

I really want vr but I also want to wait next gen hats. Any news from updated versions?

I felt that way for ages but the more I read, the more I realised I was missing out on a profound new technology and industry at its most formative, unbridled and experimental phase. I had to jump on board and soak it up before it all gets thoroughly EA'd and Activisioned.

No regrets!

Still want to see detailed reviews of these things. I'm kinda surprised a game like Space Pirate Trainer is available, as I figured the tracking wouldn't be cut out for it.

Phew, tried a few games last night and had a blast.

Arizona Sunshine - Didn't play it for too long but seemed pretty fun. Changing the usual grab item and teleport buttons threw me for a loop but I got used to it. Also made me realize how immersion-shattering having a talking protagonist is, sometimes I just wished the dude would shut up.

Space Pirate Trainer - This was a blast. Looking forward to playing more later. Unfortunately this was a game which caused my low ceiling to interfere often.

Rec Room - The surprise star of the show. Only downloaded because I saw it in that Giant Bomb video and thought it was some stupid crappy game, but I legit had a fun time! Quite a few people still playing it. Played some sci-fi shooter activity with randos and had a blast. (Though I didn't realize the Vive had a built in mic so I kinda trash talked my team a bit before realizing I wasn't muted. Woops)

Next I want to continue trying the 3 above, and a horror game... Always wanted to try VR Horror.

The Windows mixed reality part of the Microsoft store is up in the UK.

Everything seems to be £2-3 more expensive than on Steam and the Oculus store.

"The Windows Store is such a premium experience that our consumers won't mind paying extra for the privilege"

Said nobody ever.

Bit baffling given that SteamVR support has already been announced for their platform...

Talos VR is available.

40$ normal, 30$ if you own Talos Principle.

Imo still to expensive for a game that was 7,50$ before in Non-VR.

Please support this game and the Devs. I want more VR content from them. This game runs well for me and I didn't run into issues. If you liked talos principle this is like the definitive edition.

there are multiple transportation methods, tho I prefer classic with comfort mode.

No sense in waiting, Oculus just announced 2 new HMDs and both of them are less powerful than the Rift in terms pushing pixels. Both upcoming headsets are focused on driving adoption over pushing the power envelope.

I personally don't believe we'll see a true successor to the Rift/Vive until inside-out tracking is fleshed out (meaning no more wall mounted cameras), wireless headsets are feasible (both recently announced Oculus headsets are tether-free), and there are significantly more PCs capable of running high-end VR in the wild. IMO that puts a next-gen hat in 2019 or 2020 territory.

The next leap in PC headsets wont happen until Foveated rendering becomes a thing so you can have 4k lenses for each eye and not require 4 X SLI 1080 Ti. I don't know if they will go tetherless due to the inherent latency and the need for a battery that adds heat/weight, but foveated rendering + inside out tracking seems like a given for CV2.

Played Insanity VR today (free on steam) and it was better than I what I expected although it was really short.

You're exploring the mind of a "patient" which is dream/nightmare like made up of the patients house floating in space. What I found really cool was the demonic enemies, normally they are invisible with a spotlight like aura that moves about the environment to indicate they are nearby. Aslong as you don't make any noise they won't be a threat. If you make a sound like dropping or walking into something, several closed eyes floating above you will begin to open and if they open completely the demon/ghosts come and kill you. If you stay quiet for a bit the eyes will close so its a nice way to incorporate a stealth meter into the game.

The worst aspect are the controls. There's no way to turn around using the controller so expect your wires to be twisted by the end of it. However, the locomotion system is an odd choice. You hold down the trackpad (or grab button on oculus) and then move your arms back and forth (as if you are walking) to travel forward. The speed changes based on the speed/distance your arms move. Its an interesting way to move but its clunky.

It probably lasts about 30 minutes, although expect to die a couple of times just getting used to the way stealth/enemies work (game over takes you back to the start of the game).

People ought not be so narrow in their views for HMD's. LG still has their next model coming out presumably sometime in the next few months which is like a Vive with a small resolution bump and Pimax has their headsets coming out a bit later which have between a modest resolution bump and a massive one depending on the model. We are lucky in that a slew of companies are jumping in to fray. Facebook and HTC not releasing new updates until serious next-gen tech arrives is no reason to shrug off all the other players with more iterative updates when deciding on whether to buy a headset now or wait a little bit.

No news but safe to say not in The coming months. Oculus is focusing on mid-low end VR headsets to drive adoption in the near future. Maybe earliest will be late 2018?

Vive is focusing on Vive standalone headset with mobile tier VR too

Microsoft just released some VR headsets

Hopefully the PSVR version wouldnt held back the Vive/Rift version of “Seeking Dawn” too much

There's something else going on there. Their entire game crashing due to lack of resources in open world settings sounds like poor optimization at best, or poor coding at worst, more than the resources. There's a lot of VR PC rigs out there, which aren't significantly more powerful than something like the PS4 Pro.

Douchebag. Yes, me.

Yeah what the hell kind of developer is this?

"We tried running our game on both dev kits but it crashed on both so I guess we can't be on Playstation"

Looking at other peoples impressions it seems like that Luna game is well done but it is only about 1-2 hours long and is more of an experience then a game. Seems expensive but I guess you can complete it quickly and get the refund if you don't feel it was worthwhile.
