Nintendo Switch Update Ver. 4.0.0 Live! Some video capture, transfer profiles/saves

Oh man... I need a detailed explanation of the save data transfer.

If it works like as hope it does (You can pick which to transfer) they just got me to buy a second switch.

Edit: Confirmed. Fucking awesome.

Edit2: Still need backup via the cloud when the online service starts.

Dunno if anyone else here has noticed this already, but it seems another unannounced feature of this update is that, if you have a physical game cart currently in your Switch, its icon will show up first in your menu.

I've had Mario + Rabbids in for a while but it wasn't even on my starting screen anymore because I've been playing so many download games. Now it's in the leftmost spot. Cool!
Not a new features. Seems to happen with any restart.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
You most certainly should buy it physical. Nintendo games particularly 1st party games hold their value incredibly well.
It's not like you gonna sell a game like Mario O anyway... Going Digital as well - Def worth the price considering how often I'll play it for quick sessions during the the day.

XB2 will occupy my card slot for the next month.

I want Mario Odyssey digital as well but I want that Best Buy $10 discount.
I know they allow you do pre order the digital version and get $10 back but they don't let me at the local retailer and the online store doesn't ship to my house so I gotta figure something out there.

Edit:
...wait, this is an update thread, lol
Sorry, a bit off topic

I think it is pretty clear now they will leave save file backup to the paid membership (possibly in a form of cloud save) launching next year. Otherwise there's little reason to not introduce it now along with save file transfer.

The exact same thing I'm going to do. Cheers.

Pre-purchase option is available for certain games on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch"
So which games is this available for? I checked Odyssey and Warriors on the eshop and didn't see any buying option

Seems like something that would be good for that. I imagine with this save transfer update the made it possible at least.

My friend bought a Switch and transferred her account off of my Switch, onto her new Switch. Her BotW save file is on my console, and her Stardew Valley save is on her console..

My question is, can I transfer her BotW save to her new Switch without overwriting her Stardew Valley save? Can I merge accounts, essentially?

I imagine it means that the system wasn't capable of preloading before this update and it added the option.

Pretty sure there are no games you can do that with. Would be nice if Mario had the option.

Just became easy to show off my Mario Kart skills! Who’s ready to get whooped?

I should be able to make local backups of my data for free.

Ah, okay. I guess I forgot because you pretty much always put the console to sleep instead of shutting it down, lol. They should really make that a persistent feature though.

It also happens when you insert a card with the console on.

Nice! Video capture actually came sooner than I was expected. And 30 seconds really ain’t that bad for the puny OS. Hopefully more support for it is added quickly.

Hope springs eternal.

Youtube, Netflix, etc. are the only things stopping this system from being the main system in my living room. After the launch of the Japanese Youtube earlier I've thought that it's only a matter of time before Nintendo pulls the trigger. Well apparently it's more time.

When video apps come, it most likely won't be attached to a system update.

You say this like it’s a good financial investment (in the actual meaning of the word) to buy Nintendo games. It isn’t. Ever.

There is no advantage to buying it physical over digital unless you plan on trading it in for less than what you purchased it for to get at least a little bit of your money back. It’s a physical piece of media. Not gold.

It's always true that if you exclude an advantage that it is as if it does not have that advantage.

Not saying people should buy games as an investment but if you don't plan on throwing away the game, physical games do have the advantage of being sellable.

Nintendo games tend to hold their value for a pretty long time. If someone did have to eventually sell their Nintendo titles, they could likely get some good cash back via ebay.

wow
never expected video capture

During the Switch reveal event on January 13th, Nintendo actually said at the time when discussing the Joy-con that the Capture Button would eventually be used to capture footage (click to see).

where the hell is save data backup.. seriously.

My fingers are crossed that it's coming with Nintendo's paid online service. I figure Switch OS 5.0 is coming early 2018, hopefully with that functionality. If it doesn't...my only hope will be that Nintendo adds it entirely randomly one day.
