just crazy

I just choked so hard in the N300 daily, it wasn't even funny.
Just glad I kept my B rating, race was mostly clean, but most players still lack car awareness.

It doesn't help that the game allows you to overtake dirty, at least in the first two missions.

So I was thinking about switching from automatic to manual transmission, but I wonder how you guys using manual know which gear use for each turn. I know there's the red indicator in the hub, but it doesn't seem to be extremely reliable. Do you use any special cue or just do it by "intuition"?

So GT Sport has already convinced me to buy a T300RS, and now seeing some of the gifs in this thread, I kinda want a PS4 Pro.

manual gets me better times.

start off with using the indicator and eventually you'll know that you can take certain corners in a higher gear.

Doing well in the races... Not necessarily winning, but if you gain positions from the start to finish it will increase over time. I am almost B.

Gotcha, I have only done a handful of races in the demo. I'm still practicing before going online I didn't even realize there were two rankings lol

In general the gearing indicator always wants you to go slower than you really need to. You should generally view it as a +1 situation. In other words, if you're in fifth gear and the gear indicator shows that you should be in 3rd, then you should be able to take the corner just fine while in 4th.

Couple of ideas to explore:

1. Each car has a point in the rev range where maximum power in produced. Say it's a 30mph corner, which gear should you be in to stay at or close to max power for corner exit? that will help to suggest the best gear. Slightly less relevant for very torquey turbo-charged cars, where accessing the power is not so dependent on being higher up in the rev range.

2. On the flipside, there's lots to be said for keeping up momentum and not upsetting the weight transfer in/before corners by changing down gear, and therefore using the engine torque to power you through the corner in the current gear you're in.

The right approach or combination of approached would vary from car to car and corner to corner.

I really wish that they would switch up on the daily race tracks daily like they did in the beta, it was fun logging in everyday to see what new tracks are in store.

I think the quality of opponents is exponentially better than in the beta as well (granted the first corner of every race is still a mess). But overall I don't really have to drop down places just to maintain a solid SR. I've ran plenty of races (even a few times at the oval speedway) in the middle of the pack and avoided any contact besides some bumping and grinding in the first turn. When the racing is clean and solid it's such an amazing experience, even if my position in the middle of the pack doesn't change all that much.

Don't enter a race then go afk because its 15 min away. You might forget about it, and when you come back you'll get a message saying you are disqualified because you racked up too many penalties. I dunno how the race got started or what happened in it, but my DR also got a massive hit (C bar nearly full to almost empty). Lesson learned.

So, guys, I have one question. This game is focused on online gameplay, but my internet is not that great.

Is a 15mb internet connection enough to play this game? Don't wanna be that guy lagging during the races...
What makes you think that you're Internet isn't that great?

I have a very solid connection and 15mb is my bandwidth as well and it does everything I need it to. The biggest things I download are games and their updates and PSN is slow anyway so getting more bandwidth won't help with that. I'd feel like a dummy if I was paying for more.

Anyway ping is the thing you're looking for when playing online multiplayer games. In the private beta I was getting 58ms ping and it was perfect, not a hint of any lag. In Overwatch I get 40 or less and the latency is perfect, many single player games aren't as responsive.

Started trying out manual transmission yesterday. Decided to go with the face buttons and I am already starting to get the muscle memory down. There are points when I definitely feel like I am getting confused with shifting down gears when breaking into a turn. It's a lot going on and I am not quite there yet. I haven't even raced online because I am testing all of this in Arcade first.

Hmm. I'm finding the SR system a bit annoying.

I've been racing well, avoiding opponents and especially keeping away from erratic or pile up situations.

I've just been dropped to D rank after multiple blue C results in a row. I got on the brakes to avoid someone, copped a shunt and was pushed into someone on a corner. Ended up shooting off the track and made sure I entered safely. 10sec penalty and a negative SR.

Didn't sweat too much until I saw my SR drop to D. Frustrating.

Did not receive the Chrome Helmet DLC that was advertised on the Steel Book LE.

Called PlayStation and asked what that was all about. Will hear back within a week apparently.

i truly don't understand why some of these these people purposefully drive into you when they (should hopefully) know that it only negatively effects their rating. and mine.

just had a decent race on brands hatch, but coming out of the final corner i got pushed to the side just because this lad deseperately wanted to finish in... 8th place. 💀

This will eventually sort itself out. At least that's the theory. You're getting people who are just grabbing the game this week and not giving a shit behind the philosophy of Sport. They are going to play the game online line how they have always played online racing games.

Have you tried re-installing the addons? I did not receive my 8 cars until I did that.

Yes and also Restore Licenses.

No dice.

The code from the steel book gave me the DLC content of the bonus cars and the livery but there was no helmet DLC icon so no way to re-download it. After checking GT Planet it appears I am not the only one with this issue.

Can confirm.
I always had a safety rating of B, got promoted to Driver Rating D and the race was very clean even back to place 8-10. Noticeable different to my 4 races on DR E before, so I'll suppose it gets even better from now on.

Bit of a bummer:
I want to practise and do a car setup on the Nürb, but it is locked in Arcade to Level 20. WTF
Luckily I just had to buy some cars for a bonus to lift me up from 19, but this kinda sucks and I don't see what's the point in Arcade mode.

If my SR is grey (white?) after every race, will it just stay at B forever? Does the color only indicate that it moved up or down by some notch?

So I bought wheels in the Mileage Exchange but when I go to the Livery Editor, they're not appearing for my car. Is there a reason for this or is this a bug? Anyone tried?

Can't wait to finish work and get back into the game. Yesterday I could only play a couple of Sport races, but they were intense (and clean) as fuck. On Suzuka I managed to finish 7th from 15th, including a couple of goosebump-inducing overtakes in the first turn

Ended up the day in SR B, hopefully it will never change lol

Thanks for the input. This is what I've noticed as well: gear indicator is always one gear less than what it should really be. I'll give it a try later

I just finished a race losing one position, from 6th to 7th and gained in DR so I think there are multiple factors than just gaining position. I do know if you get a red SR for a race it limits how your DR can go up, even if you were fast and improved position.

Just to chime in on some discussions since last night.

30 lap endurance race: Medium tires every time, Five, 6 lap stints. Done.
You can have fun using the fuel map settings, but you can also keep it super simple. Start on Medium tires, pit every 6 laps, take new medium tires, add enough fuel for 6 more laps (I would always add about 6.5 laps to be safe) That is it. I finished well ahead of second place.

Dailies every 5 min:
This is a necessary edition if races are going to be so short. However, I would much prefer to have some hourly races that last 30 min +. Adding a SR system then only doing 3-5 lap sprint races is idiotic. Everyone is going to try to win the race in every turn because you have no time to settle in, observe, and set up a move. There is also no opportunity to let player over heat their tires by pressuring them.

Dailies being weeklies:
Yep this still sucks, especially with only three events for the entire game right now. A mix of the two would be ideal for a game like GTS.
Edit: With the same tracks for an entire week, the least they could do is make you set a new qualifying time for each session. Would at least mix up the field a little bit. Being able to bank an entire week of grid spots on a single lap is lame. It is only going to encourage exploiting track limits etc so people can get pole position over and over.

Down Tuning N___ cars:
This is going to be the norm until there is a spec race series. Multi car fields are difficult to balance and that is why you only see two to three cars to choose for mix car fields in games like iRacing. PD has been unable to balance cars since the GT5 PP system was introduced. There is no reason for the tune system in GTS right now. It just makes the meta even more limited. The only time GT had a decent pack of balanced cars was with the JGTC cars....yet we don't have those.

SR and DR:
SR is a mess right now. Swings way too much . Getting to a new rank should be a big deal and give you a margin before dropping you. They also need to add more events to Sports mode and have them gated off by SR ranking. You shouldn't even be able to get into a Gr.__ race until you are SR of B or higher. Set specific criteria for SR rank up. You have to gain a certain amount of SR points as well as complete a certain amount of races at that rank. DR is even more worthless. Moves too quickly to diversify the field into proper sections. You can play often and rank up, or be a alien and rank up, but the rank doesn't seem to reflect your class of skill. If anything it feels like DR is the thinking dividing the field into sportmanship classes more than SR is. It is also unclear exactly how your DR is being effected so being a B class driver over a C class driver doesn't mean much other than you will likely have people racing more cleanly....but that is supposed to be the thing controlled by SR not DR!!!

Missions:
These started fun but end up being pretty terrible by groups 7 and 8. All they do is throw you in last place against a bunch of cars going way too slow, braking in the middle of apexes, weaving all over the place, and taking the dumbest lines through corners. The Fishing Village challenge was awful. It is teaching you nothing about racing, just a mindless GT challenge of go from last to first with terrible AI in between. The entire Nordschliefe challenge is this and makes it a joyless feat. Can't wait to be done with the missions at this point.

I can finally retire my old DFGT! I gave the G29 a quick try last night and it's a big step up from my old wheel.

I'm also really happy with the game. I didn't mind redoing all the stuff from the demo, it's all so nicely presented and super fun.

Anyone notice the lack of anti- aliasing on og PS4? In both gameplay and replays? Does Pro downsampling at 1080p alleviate all the jaggies for those who have it?

VR was fun! It feels like it's just a reprojected 60fps though. Actually had less motion queasiness with faster cars I assume because it subconsiously adds a motion blur effect as you focus forward. Changing to motion control on the DS4 helped a TON. I started out and felt weird with N100s at the mini driving park track and was up to trying GT3s in about an hour after adjustments. I personally didn't have issues with Driveclub VR but only because I'd recenter the thing like twice a lap to prevent it from getting weird. Positioning in GTS is very, very stable and never needed recalibration. Did it starting and ending every event out of habit.

Does anyone know if there are any "official" PS4Pro enhancements for the VR mode? Like, higher framerate? Or is it more effects? The fact this is possible at all on a base PS4 blows my mind. Seriously. A $300 box on almost 5-year-old tech.

Interestingly, I noticed that even without any force feedback and just steering into the air I was twitching my arms for motions a lot as if I was controlling a real vehicle. This is something that probably has a complicated scientific explanation. The input latency has to be awesome to get that kind of natural response to visual input, right?

I'm also switching to MT soon to get faster, was kinda hoping Driving School would have forced it already but the gold times aren't really that strict as I managed to grab them all with AT and TCS3.

So it's settled regarding dailies being weekly? Won't be able to check myself until after work.

It's especially disappointing when they have the other championship events right next to sport mode but not available for two weeks.

I know it's beating a dead horse but I'll be holding off on purchasing until something changes. It's too bad because the beta was great.

Side note: I was also expecting there to be a lot more stuff in the mileage exchange compared to the beta!

basically it’s settled, can’t wait for the FIA races though, november 5, based on the game calendar

The fact it's still the same 3 races is disappointing as fuck... They need to make these actual dailies instead of weekly races ASAP. Can't be said enough...

What are the FIA races exactly? Can anyone enter just like the “dailies?” Or are they only for the most elite racers? Will we be able to watch the championships live through the game?

New dailies? Neat. From the timing this seems to suggest they'll reset at Japanese midnight (which is a format of time I'm extremely accustomed to from my days playing Final Fantasy 11).

I'm fairly certain the idea is that anyone of any skill can take part and be slotted in in a manner that impacts their nation's or manufacturer's cups. How exactly? I have no idea! They've never actually discussed it, but it's been mentioned as part of the formula for GT Sport since the original original reveals so I assume they have some system. You could say the daily races are a DR/SR refinement program for making more fair tournaments. Hopefully. Considering you have to pre-register for the tourney events the matchmaking should be even smarter than what's already a decent system.
