South Park's out. Is the fish minigame handled well? Should it be in the game?

Looks like a South park fish with lipstick and earnings to show us it's a female fish.

What's more insulting (and funny) are the Jewish stereotypes from Kyle's cousin early on.

South Park likes to poke fun at the human race, no matter the ethnicity or religion. I mean fuck, the Catholic Priests the want to molest you with rosary anal beads, fuck, lol.

I love this game.

It looks like clear black face though, because you forgot they made it brown for no reason, or you conveniently missed it. Also one offensive thing doesn't excuse another offensive thing

why is Coonstagram a hilarious joke or social commentary beyond the fact it's fun to say racial slurs?

Coonstagram wouln't be funny if you're unfamiliar with South Park. But if you've seen the show, you know that Cartman is a racist piece of shit. The fact that he would not only create a character called "The Coon," but be self-obsessed enough to build a social network around it, well, that's funny. The humor is based on an assumed knowledge of Cartman's character. There is a difference between depicting racism, and endorsing racism. But if you'd never seen the show before, yes, then I can see why it might be offensive.

He is trying to get a MCU type of thing going on which is fantastic. All he wants to do is build up a franchise.

One thing I love about Coonstagram is that Cartman does the mario sounds and actually looks like Mario from Mario 3 from the NES.

Fuck off with that, how are people manufacturing controversy to black face?

What is your problem

What is OP trying to stir

Its obvious black face, there's nothing to " stir" is fucked up.

Actually it's not obviously blackface. If I saw that picture without the context of the OP I would never have dawned on me.

This isn't satire. You can't just throw in blackface and say "look it's funny now." What's the actual joke supposed to be here? Being offensive isn't funny.

Lot of people in this thread defending blackface...

“It’s South Park. They push limits.” Lol.

I enjoy the game. But it’s terrible “joke”.

I get that Cartman is a racist piece of shit. I just don't find it funny? I also don't get how an entire social network built around a racial slur and everyone referring to him as The Coon as though it's okay isn't enabling and endorsing racist language?

The whole joke seems like nothing more than people thinking it's funny to say Coon and then try and point out it's fine to say in that context because the character is racist as he's ignorant of the slur.

Here in this thread we have people defending the mammy caricature because their ignorant of its meaning and are refusing to learn about it. Fans of the show are adopting Cartmans behaviour whilst using the defence "well Cartman's funny because he's a racist piece of shit and meant to be wrong".

That's the caveat.

Cartman is always meant to be wrong. People laugh at him because he is a racist idiot.

He is not someone meant to be emulated, he is a complete loser.

If people adopt his behavior because they think he's funny just cause, then they are mass stupid missing the point completely.

These are usually the same idiots making tirades on twitter and endangering other people over a McDonald's sauce because of Rick and Morty.

Dude, sounds like South Park just isn't for you.

In a game full of antisemitism, pedophilia and poop/piss jokes. It is strange to see people draw the line at a fish in blackface.

Kanye supporting Trump, a nazi sympathizer, is far worse/more offensive/racist than any joke that anyone could possibly tell about his mom. I don't feel one ounce of sympathy for him. Too late for Kanye to be like "I don't support him anymore" either. South Park guys are joking around. Kanye literally said "if I voted I would have voted for Trump"....so stop defending him and whatever kind of person raised him to be that stupid.

I still think Kanye is a great rapper/producer, for what it's worth.

Yup he undoubtedly is to the point where there hasn't been a better produced album since MBTDF like MJ top tier album level, he's just a complete idiot when talking in public and they should never let him do it

This. South Park is supposed to be satire. They are not satirizing racism by just using the terms. That's not a joke. It's not funny.

Maybe... people have issues with other things too

Also I don't think using racial charactertures as jokes, with no context, just the that as a joke is the same level of poop and piss. I guess racism is the equivalent of that to you I guess

How the fuck do you know how kanye was raised?

My father is an abusive peice of shit, I didn't grow up to be an abusive piece of shit. I am not my parents and they are not me, and as far we know she was not on any of the bullshit he's on. Don't use one person's actions to shit one someone's family because you don't like them, make fun of that person, or their family if you know they are complicit in their horeshit. But you don't know that, especially because the reason kanye is largely the way he is today, is because his mother isn't around, she died and it seems like he has mentally fallen. But please tell me what the fuck you know about Donda west please?

Because someone is related to someone you don't like racism is ok? What the fuck are you even talking about? Are you listening to yourself?

In totally lost on this. How can a fish be in blackface?

Holy. She's dead man. That's what I know. This joke is never going to offend her, and if it offends Kanye, I don't care because he's a giant piece of garbage. That's all I'm saying.

Actually, knowing that it is a mini game makes me think that the mother fish is darker to cause contrast between the background and controlled character. While it does resemble a blackface character (I did not originally see it, but once pointed out, yeah I can see it), I would not be surprised if this was purely a design/gameplay decision. If they made the mom fish the same color as the Kayne fish, it would have blended into the background and possibly made it more difficult for some to see the moving character in relation to the obstacles. That seems like design 101. I guess they could have changed the background instead, but it was likely easier to just make the fish darker and the idea of "blackface" never crossed their minds. I honestly would not be surprised if this is the case.

You don't think he got family, brothers and sister, cousins, aunts, uncles, and people who knew her in her life who might take offence to someone who was apparently a beloved professor being portrayed as a black faced fish, for the sole purpose of " racism is funny".

Along with that, her being dead doesn't really excuse the use of black face to portray any black person, even the ones you don't like, let alone black people you probably don't know anything about.

I didn't say any of that. My point was that people were like "poor Kanye", and I'm like fuck Kanye. That's it. I didn't say anything else about whether or not this is, or should, or shouldn't be offensive to other people.

I made a comment about this but it was deleted and I assume cause I’m a junior which is fair I guess.

But yeah this is absolutely messed up and should not be excused as “it’s just South Park!”, his mom wasn’t even a celebrity she was just a guy’s mom there’s no reference to the joke minus racism.

Super proud to be a part of neogaf seeing people put this to task.

The exaggeration of certain features on the face makes me believe that they knew exactly what they were doing. Accidental blackface isn't really a thing.

I mean it's South Park.

But damn if I didn't start playing Stick of Truth today and was like "wtf? Hell naw" when I saw KKK armor pieces for sale at level 4.

I gues my character is gonna have to take more damage until I find other shit. I ain't buying that.

Maybe stop focusing on the dipshit rapper and think about the dead woman they're making a shitty unfunny joke about.

I'm really having trouble seeing more than just a cartoon fish here. I can see why y'all think it's blackface but I'm not entirely convinced that was the intent. Is there a video that makes this clearer?

South Park is offensive to just about everyone. If you're offended easily you should heed thew warning the creators put before every show:

...THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM CONTAINS COARSE LANGUAGE AND DUE TO ITS CONTENT IT SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED BY ANYONE

Seriously, if you are easily offended or sensitive to race/gender stereotype jokes I would stay away from South Park (show or game) because you're not gonna enjoy it.

I've seen a bunch of people state that they've been watching the show from the start, but were appalled by this. Is it not worth discussing if South Park goes too far?

I mean, it's also noteworthy that Ubisoft is involved in using an incredibly racist caricature to make fun of another game developer's game that's a tribute to someone's deceased mother.

The point is that hopefully people can find the humor in what the creators are making. If not hopefully they will take comfort in the fact that every race/religion/gender is equally joked about. Of course people will still be offended so its your prerogative to be critical, but the hope is for people to understand the jokes are not to be taken seriously, which is what the content warning is clearly stating.

People are forewarned if they are sensitive not to watch. Sensitive person watches and is offended. You think they should still criticise the subject material? Jesus, wtf is going on in this world.

I am a fan of SP and will be playing this game, but you are deluding yourself if you don't think the fish is intentionally made to look like a mammy.

When the fuck did calling out blatant racism become sensibility? What the fuck are you even fucking talking about?

Also yes, you can criticize anything and anyone you fucking want to, warning or no. What the fuck are you talking about?

People finding blatant unabashed racism with no context funny, isn't great.

Someone being blatantly unabashedly racist/homophoic whatever to several groups of people via jokes with no context isn't the best thing

Also you cant tell me not to take this shit seriously , because my life serious. When I go outside, I have an increased likely hood of being fucking shot because i'm black. There is, not just the USA , but large groups of people around the fucking world that think lesser of me, because I am black. That isn't like them telling met to take star wars less seriously, or chef shows less seriously or LOTR less seriously, all things they have joked about. Being black isn't some shit I indulge in some shit I do on the weekend. That shit is my day to fucking day.

So forgive me, if I don't find that two guys with an enormous outreach trying to propagate the idea that mammy imagery with out context is fucking funny, is fucking bad

say fuck again. it will make your point more concise and impactful and people will take you more seriously.

Says the guy who just suggested that people calling out blantant racism, even black people like myself are being sensitive for calling out blantant racism

Motherfucker I can't take you seriously right now

Haven't read the thread but did someone finally said what was the joke about or is it just a bunch of "they make fun of everyone" like the last thread?

It's clearly a face and it's clearly black... so clearly it's blackface. Get outraged.

If South Park would wanna make a play on blackface, they would make it blatantly obvious that the joke would be about blackface. Please get a grip.

I feel like you hold matt and trey in too high regard, sometimes they fuck up jokes. Or forget what jokes are and just come across mean spirited

I love the new SP game and it's one of the funniest games ever made. If there are jokes in the game you don't like then just avoid the game. I don't think anyone is ever going to be forced to play the game, just like no one is forced to watch the TV show. Matt and Trey's humor definitely isn't for everyone, but they are the best at what they do.
