Polygon/Verge writer says Naughty Dog staff said inappropriate things to her (quote)

Story after story after story after story over the past (what's it been now) three weeks of women coming forward, usually detailing how they tried to handle these situations through companies and were ignored and this is something someone says with a straight face.

As I said again, if they were ignored, then they should get the public's attention.

If the victim doesn't bring the case to the company first, the company can never be a part of the solution and be responsible for the issue.

No, it upsets me that people use social media to resolve issues that should be first resolved privately.
If she had attempted to resolve it privately first, then I will apologize. Otherwise, I maintain my position of handling sexual harassment through company policies first.
Sorry people don't follow the guidelines of a company they don't work for. Or that they don't report sexual harassment in a business dominated by men who have the power to have them blacklisted. Lord knows fans are already doing that already to her without her even naming anyone.

I n a society where women are objectified day and night through every media, and the clubbing scene is a hunting ground for most of the men to score a night, I am not surprised this goes around in most of the work places. And let me tell you some women are not innocent either, as I have seen them flirting and putting them out their to get attention of the higher ups. I have seen this personally.

Anyways, before you guys start throwing me under the bus, if this really happened. this kind of behavior is unacceptable anywhere. All women should be respected period, no matter where they are.
Hey guys, women do this stuff too so it's kind of okay, but don't get mad at me for it!

The whole shaming a company for the actions of one developer or two is kind of bad though. Specially when you shit on them without naming the person himself.

I have met a few NaughtyDog devs at GDC and every one of them has been really nice to me. People saying that this is the culture at ND are insane, specially when you assume the actions of a couple people to be the culture for a 300+ employee company.

Anyway, not trying to defend this person (assuming this is real, anyway). He deserves to be fired since he was being there as a representative of NaughtyDog.
Fuck this. Who cares if they were nice to you? Just because they were nice to you doesn't give everyone in the company a free pass to be a jackass.

Did I ever say that though?
I’m only saying that assuming this is the company’s culture is insane. Not that everyone at the company is nice people. The fact that I met nice people isn’t even the important part of my post. The important part is that I’m against assuming the company as a whole thinks like this just because a couple members acted that way.

You are not even reading what you’re replying to.

It's just a diversion tactic. He's already succeeded in dragging us into this useless, irrelevant discussion on corporate policy for multiple pages. Even straight up said that the real problem isn't the harassment, it's how she handled it, and then denied that this was victim blaming.

Ummm dude... you're missing the point. You report your sexual harassment to the store, which is Starbucks. Going to social media with it is fruitless.
LOL

Where the hell have you been the past couple of weeks? There is a massive movement on Twitter of victims coming out and speaking about being abused and their abusers. It has resulted in a lot of sexual predators losing their jobs or being shunned by their peers.

Going to ND wouldn't have done shit. They've already shown just recently they don't take this stuff seriously.

She was not employed by ND. She has no loyalty to ND, she owes nothing to them. She talked on Twitter about how another person treated her. There is no right or wrong way for her to act.

Why bring up the fact that they were nice to you? What difference does it make? Because they were nice to you, it rules it out for you?

For sure. You might also be incredibly gross outside NeoGAF but if I haven't seen you doing so, I'll just assume you're a nice guy.
Again, I don't think everyone at ND is incredibly nice. Out of 300 or so people, there are probably a few jerks. But saying that that's the ND culture is also assuming too many things, don't you think?

When people talk about "rape culture", they don't mean everyone is raping one another. It describes the attitudes and systems in place at every level towards situations like this. As it stands, gaming and tech aren't on particularly solid footing in the first place. No one is saying it is "the culture of ND." But if this and the allegations made last week are any indication, then it absolutely is a facet of it.

Druckman still retweeting moriarty on the regular? That’s really all you need to know about the culture at the top there. I fell out of love with them pretty damn fast.

I don’t think he still does. Honestly I don’t even think flag boy has any friends from the industry left. Especially his former co workers. These things coming out sure changed my opinion on the studio. Absolutely disgusting and shameful.

I edited my post. The fact that they were nice isn’t the important thing. What I wanted to say was that you can’t assume that that’s part of the company culture, which some people did.
I’m not saying that because they were nice they can’t do bad shit. I’m not 12, I’ve met nice people that ended up being shitheads even at some companies many of you guys really love (though I won’t go into any detail either obviously).

I am not sure about dragging a companies name into i over the actions of one employee, especially if no complaint was made to the company. If the company was notified and did nothing then that's a problem.

Fair enough. I'm just upset about how shitty some people are to just assume she's lying because of the company it is towards. It's a sign of the times when people can be more loyal to a fucking brand or company instead of human compassion.

Are you going to boycott Naughty Dog until they are innocent or dealt with the issue appropriately?

It's not vital to my existence that I play The Last of Us 2, so yes. I've already given them my money in regards to the last Uncharted game, so I can't exactly make any other immediate demonstrations of protest.

I'm sure this is a point already raised, but I don't have time to go through this whole thread.

Let's never forget that this is a video game company that hid a picture of a topless woman in one of their earliest games. Link is NSFW, naturally.

I'm never going to be shocked to hear stories that suggest the culture there is... well, less than progressive.

Oh yeah, I agree with you on that.
Brand loyalty is something I won’t get either :p

So let's hypothesize that this happens with a lot more other game companies, will you boycott them too?

I mean, we can start with Activision Blizzard already being guilty.

Here's what they did last time. They released a statement calling the victim a liar.

They are a company. They have their own interests at heart every single time. They will do what they have to do to not get sued. They are not here to execute any kind of justice.

This seems like a really backwards logic. First of all, how many of those people that made this still work there, and secondly, if this represents the culture there, then wouldn't the progressive stuff in their latest games as well? That logic leads nowhere

They didn't say Bollard is a liar. They said they can't find any evidence of the sexual harassment that occurred to him, which was a long time ago.

There's nothing Naughty Dog can do if they have no information about the person or people involved in sexually harassing Bollard. All they can do is reaffirm their position on their sexual harassment policies.

Edit: Now, whether you believe they have the information is up to you. I don't think they do because it was a long time ago.

That's going to be a very easy boycott as far as I'm concerned.

lol I'm already boycotting them for their treatment of Infinity Ward.

They did this without a full investigation having taken place. They were ONLY looking for paper filings of complaints. You can't fully investigate this in 24 hours.

I'm calling bull shit on this. Too easy of a target now to come out now and get some free followers on twitter.

If you're gonna call someone out on twitter name names and give the details. How can you take a comment like this seriously with a House of Cards joke in there.

The obsession with having personal political purity with those you interact with is unhealthy.

That’s an interesting take, but to boil it down, some people are shit heads and shot heads get no love from me. It’s pretty easy, and uh it has nothing to do with political purity and everything to do with amplifying misogynists like moriarty. His politics are terrible but there’s more than that at play.

Ok yeah, they just have to kind of release their boiler plate PR and hope for the best. What would this writer accomplish by reporting this to the company first? It would be the same shit.

They didn't even bother looking into it properly before making their statement of denial.

So nudity = sexual harassment now?

Get the fuck out of here with that broad paint brush of yours.

If animated (poorly at that) breasts that were HIDDEN in a game bothers you that much to the point that it makes people sexual deviants, maybe it's time you go back to that puritanical society you live in.

Has Naughty Dog made a statement on this at all?

Pretty sure Druckmann doesn't talk to Colin anymore ever since he left Kinda Funny earlier this year. I also don't know what does that have to do with this thread about sexual harassment?

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Nudity does not equal a corporate culture of harassment.

It's an awful thing, but one person or even a few people don't define a company. Don't let a few assholes degrade all the hard working and honest people at Naughty Dog.
