KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

wdym by instant on? i didn't even know this was a thing

In the Xbox One's power settings, there are two options:

"Instant On" is where the console is basically on but sleeping the whole time, so that you can turn it on instantly, it will listen for voice commands, and it will download a bunch of shit while you're not using it. This uses more power, obviously. It probably keeps the HDMI connection active.

"Power-Saving" is where the Xbox mostly shuts off, so the Xbox has a longer boot time, no voice commands, and no downloads occur while the machine is off. However, I think it will check for updates on shut-down and stay active long enough to download them before shutting down completely. I base this on the activity of my external hard drive since I use "Power-Saving" myself. I'm not sure if this actually turns off the HDMI connection or not, but it's worth trying if you want it to.

I don't use the sleep mode on any of my consoles or PC because my power has been incredibly unreliable over the past few months with regular outages of several hours and these devices don't like it when you pull the plug like that.

The software of the TV is really a bit slow. Reminds me of early gen smartphones after 2 years of usage. Looking forward to this update's EU release.

The DAZN app is the worst offender but I'm not sure if it's on Samsung or on DAZN to code an app this shit. It crashes consistently.

Really? Mine seems rapid. Not sure if it makes a difference that it's the KS9000, maybe better processor.
Occasionally get youtube or nowTV app blips, but that's it.

Some of the apps are worse than others. But the biggest ones like Youtube work very well.

These two posts cured my biggest annoyances with this TV. Thanks!
Only three things still annoyes me:
no game mode hdr autoswitch,
422 instead 444 in game mode for no reason.
Pc mode hdr works very odd.
So, it's very painful to turn on pc mode for better picture(really love 444 rgb clean picture) and switch to game mode for HDR.

Sounds like an isolated issue... Im in EU and its super fluid.

That feel, when you have to pack your 65" TV for a move... Always makes me nervous.

and it was an absolute bitch to get this TV in and then out. Thankfully absolutely no scratches or damages. I unfortunately did not have the original box. So I had to buy a shit load of supplies and improvise. Will never do that again..... or Id rent a bigger car. lol

Did anyone ever figure out a solution to the PS4 Pro flickering with this set? It seems like it may be a hardware issue with the TV, but I'm not sure.

I actually own two of these, each with a PS4Pro hooked up to it and only one of them ever flickers. All settings are the same and they're using identical cables. Additionally, the cables have been switched and the flickering still happens on the same TV.

For now, I have my PS4 set to output YUV420 and that seems to have stopped the issue, but I should be able to display full RGB I would think?

Think it's the Q series isn't it? The M series seem too cheap in comparison.

The Q7 is the current model that performs at the same level as the KS8000, but at that price, I'd be looking at the LG OLEDs because they'll perform better at a similar price.

Not that it would account for the discrepancy, but do you have a PSVR?

I notice my flickering issue (or rather, blackout for three seconds after the system has been on for a full minute) is completely replicatable if the cables go through the psvr box, even if the unit is off. It tends to work fine otherwise. This is with the rather than yuv420 though.

I don't. PS4 Pro is hooked directly to the OneConnect Box via a 6' Monoprice 18gbps cable. I have the same setup in my other room with no issues displaying full RGB without flicker.

422 instead 444 in game mode for no reason.

I imagine one reason is speed since normal Game Mode (422) clocks in at 22.7ms input lag and PC Mode (444) clocks in 37.4ms at 4K. So almost a full frame more lag in PC mode. I'll take the responsiveness personally, since during actual gameplay I don't see a big difference between them. Of course, reading text or using a PC desktop is a different matter but then the input lag is not as much of a concern. It seems that newer sets don't seem to have this issue. If they ever release an upgrade kit for the 8000 it will hopefully address this.

What if you temporarily swap the consoles? You'll be able to tell if it's the console or the TV at that point depending on whether the issue follows the PlayStation or stays with the same TV.

I guess no input lag issues here. Because 422 is used in movie, dynamic, standard modes where lag is not matter. 2017 samsung TVs have no problems with lag at 444 and PC mode, however 444 is still PC mode exclusive .
As I know, LG c7 allows to set 444 in PC source and you can use any picture mode you want. Sony x900e supports game mode and 444. However pc mode lag is not a main problem. As I've said, the main problem is broken HDR PC mode. And second problem - If you set graphic card to send RGB 444(for game, movie modes), TV converts it to 422 of complitely different color scheme. Converting color schemes is not right way to make right picture quality.

When I tell "broken PC HDR" I mean strange oversharp and font's haloes. Second odd thing I've noticed - Ingame peak brightness sliders look complitely different in PC mode or game/movie modes. I guess HDR gamma curve is not right in PC mode.

rtings has mentiones that in 2017 samsung reviews:
HDR is not supported in PC mode; the TV displays that it is showing HDR (and the gamma in the settings changes to ST. 2084 as it should), but it does not follow the PQ curve. The MU8000 shows the same behavior, which is visible in this gamma measurement for the MU8000.

My tv is back on the bullshit bandwagon of setting my pc's input into PC mode and locking out all the expert options.

I don't know how I got out of it the first time, and don't know why it changed back. Renaming the input doesn't appear to do anything. Has this happened to anyone else?

No way lol. I'd have to rent a truck.

Did you try the instructions earlier in the thread? Get that input back in game mode and try the following to prevent this happening in the future:

HDMI AUTO DETECT TOGGLE

The HDMI Auto Detect feature can be turned off on Samsung 2016/2017 TVs using the remote control by pressing a certain key sequence (either IR or Bluetooth remote works).

1. Make sure TV is updated to latest firmware version
2. Switch TV to TV source – HDMI may not work with BT Smart remotes. TV source works with either remote
3. Using IR Remote: Mute + 7 + 2 + 9 + Exit
4. Using Smart Control: Mute + Vol Down + Ch Down + Mute

PLEASE NOTE: TV does not display any messages after you press the above key combination. This function is a toggle. So if you want to turn HDMI Auto Detect on again, press the same key sequence.

I'm watching Lore UHD HDR on Amazon
Episode one...can someone verify if there is banding?

I'm on Ks8000 USA firmware 1203 latest firmware.
I'm definitely seeing banding every other dark scene.

Edit : any solution to this problem, I don't remember any banding on previous firmwares.

The latest firmware is 1206. It went up on the support website a few days ago.

I'm on auto update but still don't see it, anyhow anyone know if the banding issue still exists with the latest firm?

Don't think there is a banding issue. More likely to be down to content. What do you get banding on?

Edit: just seen your post above. Did you watch the same show on previous firmware's? Problem with streamed 4k hdr is that the bitrate is nowhere near what you get with a disc, so there's bound to be little glitches in quality due to it being compressed down.

The show is brand new, I'm sure someone in this thread will watch it eventually and confirm.

Show called : Lore, I watche it trough the amazon app on the tv im in 1203 firmware.

Major banding during darker scenes.

Edit: im now at 1206 firmware, still banding on Lore episode one.

Banding also on the Tick show.

Could it be my tv settings, what are the recommended settings for amazon video?

Guess some of the processing effects could potentially cause this. Try turning things off like auto motion, dynamic contrast, digital clean view, sharpness (turn to 0) etc. and see if it helps.

I’m on the latest firmware and I don’t really notice any difference in picture quality. Content that had color banding before, still has banding now. Nearly everything I’ve seen banding though, also shows banding in a different TV I have (Sony w900a). I just never noticed it on the Sony probably because of the smaller screen size (55in) and because I normally use my Sony TV’s option to clean up bad banding/gradient

Has any one here had trouble with their remote control? I can use it to power on and off the TV just fine but any other inputs like lowering and raising the volume don't seem to work.

I have the KS8000 TV and it still shows firmware 1203 and says no update currently available yet on Samsungs web site it shows 1206.1. Should I wait for the TV to say I have an update or just download it off the web site and install?
Ever since the last few updates the TV wifi connection will disconnect its very annoying not sure if its a firmware issue or what but it happens off and on and sometimes I cant connect at all very annoying

If you want to try the new firmware you should go ahead and grab it from the website. It sometimes takes weeks for it it to show up through the TV’s built-in update function. I’ll download and install it tonight.

I meant to say this before... things, but thank you for both for the short and long term solutions to this.

Slowly each of minor tiny headaches I've had with this tv are getting workarounds.

I experience some weird behavior with my KS8000. Anynet+ (or HDMI-CEC) stops working until I unplug the tv for some time.

The symptoms are: soundbar is disconnected, ps4 pro can not be controlled with remote, Pi with OSMC can not be controlled with remote.

Even a hard restart (hold power off on remote for 5 seconds) does not fix it.

Anyone with the same problem?

Yes me, take your batteries out, hold any button for 20 seconds, put batteries back in. fixed.

This has happened to me twice before, and leaving the tv unplugged for some time fixed it.

Not sure if there's a better way around it.

Stupid question, have you chosen the HDR version? Amazon is odd and has 2 versions, the regular and the 4K HDR

Any progress on the Gaming HDR update

Nope.

Update coming (as they said) for 2017 models in the end of this month and on another month for 2016 models.

If anyone knows, every time that i connect the switch to the dock, TV finds it as a new device, and change my custom name and icon on the HDMI input.

Any solution for this?
