Can Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on PC match - and exceed - the PS5 experience?

My favorite part is when they act so surprised when even the high end PC with 7.1 GHz nvme SSD and I9 12900K CPU is noticeably slower at loading the portal transitions compared to PS5's 5.5 Ghz SSD and (essentially) R5 3600 level CPU. Because you know, the whole custom I/O complex within the PS5 APU doesn't really exist...
They will forever pretend it doesn't exist for years to come. You know, because the denied (and laughed at) Cerny's important work to gaming technology (here I/O streaming) from the first PS5 reveal. Like many good PC fans would. Because in the end this is what they are. PCMR fanboys.

PC gaming yet again proving to me not worth the hassle. Imagine paying thousands for a device that can’t destroy ps5 games with ease.

Until devs start building games specifically around it, it’s just silly to invest. Just playing console ports
Sony being unable to release proper PC ports is not a reflection on all PC games. Remnant 2 is 720p with frame drops on PS5 while my PC can run it at 4x the resolution at almost twice the framerate.

So they criticize Nixxes for rushing out their game and they themselves had no problems rushing out their video?
Because rushing out a game you spend money on and releasing a unscripted first impressions video for free are two completely different things.

What about I have fun with RT and the proper textures? What part of wait for patches and discounts was not clear?
spiderman remastered never got fixed, you always, even to this day, play with degraded, worse-than PS4 textures on cutscenes if you run ray tracing (or if you pause for 5-10 seconds every cutscene)

they will now have to fix ratched as it has gotten more exposition however (hopefulyl)

they didnt cover it in their latest video where they revisited poor PC ports like Dead Space, Forspoken and Star Wars. They had a lot of really harsh things to say about how Dead Space was never fixed. Star Wars is still a mess too. I wonder why they left out Spiderman. Besties with Nixxes?

Spider-Man Remastered was far from perfect on release and had major issues on PC related to VRAM allocation and CPU usage. Hell, we even had a user here reach out to them about the game capping VRAM to 80% of the card's capacity. I do think it's awesome that they're using DS 1.3 before anyone else and added nice features like additional RT, ultrawide support, and other upscaling solutions.

It's not perfect but what game is on release these days? Even Forbidden West made by Sony's golden child had IQ issues on PS5 and was described as unplayable in a mode for John.

I won't dump on Nixxes for that one. I appreciate the effort and am looking forward to them fixing the key issues plaguing the game.

Reverse groomer.
Or doesn't fit their narrative 😬

Anyway, the Steamdeck looking to run it fairly well. Not even on the lowest settings here either.

The fact that Nixxes is capable of shit like this.... What a cracked porting studio.

the benefits of PC gaming don't just start and end at "more powerful hardware available". Why can't people seem to understand this

Not entirely unplayable if you have a powerful system and a lot of RAM coupled with a HDD.
Yep. Pretty sure Richard said that it was unplayable on his PS4 5400 RPM HDD on the same low spec machine with his 570. But perfectly playable on his 7200 RPM HDD. Some hitches and pauses during portal scenes but no crashes like we saw on his PS4 HDD. Wouldnt be surprised if that HDD is defective.

Game runs just fine on 200-500 MBps SATA SSDs. You dont need 5,500 MBps PS5 quality NVMe SSDs.

Port is great(better than I expected)

PS5 overall is the best version though.
huh? even with the current bugs the textures are sharper the lighting is better, shadows are better, the image is cleaner. and ive locked mine at 60 fps. I mean lets not get crazy here..

HDDs age, a 10 year old HDD will performance will show it. I've run the game's first level on a microSD card on my Steam Deck and it didn't perform nearly as bad as that HDD. Don't get me wrong, in the portal section it stopped the game for some seconds, but not as bad as that HDD and never close to crashing. It was more than fine the majority of the way.

Is this with all the RT stuff on?
Where is that scene? I'd like to check it out..

So far for me maxed out at 4k FG/DLSS on quality. RT maxed out and the opening scene looks incredible.

Locked at 116fps Vsync OFF in game.

In NVCP

Ultra low latency.. Preferred max perf..AF 16x

Quality set to highest.

Vsync ON

Motion blur Off and all the other nonsense off also like Chromatic A...bloom off.. Vignette etc.

Reduced sharpness to 5.

FOV at 15

4090
7950X
32gb Ddr5 6000
Lg C1 48''

Reviews are now Very Positive on Steam.

Make sure that your hardware and drivers are up to date. This can fix many issues.

Aside from some RT issues with shadows and some reflections not looking too hot upon close inspection, i dont see many issues with this port. There are some texture bugs. Or maybe the Cerny IO is indeed letting them push higher fidelity textures. Who knows whats going on with that, but it is not as egregious as hogwarts or forspoken texture streaming issues. probably why the steam reviews are positive so far. I bet no one even noticed that texture behind Dr. Nefarious in that one cutscene.

Highly doubt anyone on steam is playing this game on HDDs where its skipping, crashing and pausing. SATA ssds run the game fine and they have been the standard on gaming PCs since 2016 or so. hell mainstream laptops were coming with ssds starting around 2015. I think PC gamers flip out when their 8-10 GB cards run out of vram, but that doesnt seem to be the case here. Game scales fine on lower end GPUs.

You do know I can post more than just this example right?
PS5 overall is the best version though.
Post some with 4+k/60+ fps, RT AO/Shadows, m+kb gunplay, ultrawide on PS5...

Not here with 12GB of VRAM.

It is but their content is never a nothing burger, I most likely would’ve bought this game if I hadn’t watched this rushed DF video where they stated that the game needs patches. Not defending release day issues but magine being Nixxes and seeing this video knowing you have a day 1 patch waiting to push out before most people have even downloaded and installed the game. The video will be there forever and will likely be posted all over the internet. The game will likely be patched. This is why it’s so important to do it right they post content on the actual release day. Should’ve talked to Nixxes and asked if they know about the issues and plan to fix them before they posted the video.

They typically sign NDAs or embargo contracts before being given access to these games. Nixxes likely knew and had no problem with them covering this game.

ND held back the pre-release copies from DF because they knew their game sucked. Nixxes probably feels confident in their game. The steam reviews speak for themselves.

On the low spec PC Rift Apart looks like a PS3 Ratchet & Clank 😭

Here's Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction on PS3 for comparison:

The textures not loading in obviously have got nothing to do with the SSD or DirectStorage. It's not delayed loading, they simply never load the correct textures in the first place, no matter how long you wait.
You're literally arguing with a person that uses TLOU PC port as a prime example of "PS5 being equivalent high end PC and its SSD just can't be matched" instead of accepting it's a abnormally bad port.

There is a patch? DF usually waits for day 1 patches and have even redone videos if that is the case.

Most people won't watch those guys bumble for 1 hour. I watched 5 minutes and stopped. Don't have that much free time. I'll watch a proper comparison video that is 30 minutes or less and I'd wager most people will also do the same. This is exactly like their RE4 Remake let's play which was boring and irrelevant.
You sound upset with all these replies, did the PC port hurt you?

Yeah I noticed that low res texture too. The blocky shadows are also weird on pc.
But the port seems rather fine. Shame because tlou video was so fun lol
Weird they are comparing pc to ps5 performance RT mode and not unlocked 4k rt mode... but I guess they wanted 60 vs 60 fps.

I am reminded how good this game looks and how fun is it!
I've only finished it in quality30 mode/performance rt when it launched but there is 40fps 4k rt mode and all unlocked modes.
I checked it out and the 4k40 rt mode hangs around 45-50 and it uses custom LFC. Not bad for a ps5.
Oh boy, you're making me reinstall the game on my PS5!

?? You missed the post that shows the better textures are there in the game just not loading for some reason? Plus the pc has RT shadows and AO on top in that comparative.
not loading for some reason? on high end pc?
Well it's not his job to realize that lol. As it is, some textures are not loading in time.
But it's a minor, barely visible issue.

But worse RT reflections, some RT shadows doesn't works with grass and looks blocky, also it doesn't matter if better textures exists if PC isn't capable to load it :messenger_beaming:

Some high end PCs can load, as showed in the tread.
I didn't say it his job.

PC isn't capable to load it
It is. Read the discussion:

Because the initial comparison is the PC version is maxed out and the PS5 is at optimal settings in performance mode.
Well I mean that performance rt mode essentially is the ps5 "maxed out" the reason fidelity mode is 40fps is because it can't reach a stable 60 at those settings.
Besides the 40fps would have looked really choppy in a side by side on YouTube and people probably would have complained they where showing ps5 in a bad light.
I'm sure they'll go more in-depth when the proper analysis video lands

Without RTX
So it can. Clearly some bug with RT ON because that user is not running out of VRAM.

Other user here have better textures with RT on:
