Looks like Forza has more off track details like the buildings, people, cars in the background, etc. But it looks washed out and has no VR mode.
I'm all in on GT7 in VR with a wheel/pedal setup so Forza doesn't really come into the equation to begin with imo.

Really disappointed by some of my PS bros in this thread. Especially demigod and flutta. LOL reactions. Memes. i thought the median age on this forum was 33??

Forza's lighting is a clear leap over the harsh bright gamish lighting on the GT7 track. Other comparisons might tell a different story but i watched the first half of the video and its insane that this is even being debated. The light bounce on the track and trees alone is leagues ahead of the flat and dull light bounce in GT7. The washed out look is a personal preference but the technical leap is clearly there for everyone to see. And this is with ray tracing on track which you dont even get on GT7. Honestly what are we doing here?

At least insane metal is engaging in actual discussion. really disappointed right now because im being forced to agree with adamsapple of all people lmao. You go adam, your comparisons are on point and forza clearly looks better. you have my axe.

Can we add an extra option in the Poll of 'Dont Care'?

Two different games running on two different consoles made by two different developers using two different engines, comparison is dumb, enjoy respective games on respective consoles, its the only way to stop sites like IGN stoking some imaginary war (and DF will then pour fuel on it also of course).

GT looks like you’re viewing the world through Polaroid glasses 🤷‍♂️

Contrast is way to high, but colours pop and that’s normally what people like as it give the illusion of it being better. When in fact in reality sunlight mutes colours depending on direction & how bright it is. (Overcast etc…)

We had this back and forth when driveclub came out & now we repeat ourselves 😂

The haziness could be an artistic decision like starfield's hazy areas. People disabled it on pc immediately but since then have come to realize that disabling it changes the overall look for the game, and not always for the better. We have now had 6 different lighting preset mods in starfield because people cant make up their minds. i stuck with the original and dont regret it.

I cant say for sure if thats the creative intent, but i see that haze in night time races too. It adds volumetrics or simulates volumetrics. Gives it a thick atmospheric feel. I bet in a month or two, they remove this haze and people complain that it looks worse.

To be fair, that weird grey haze really fucks up the presentation of Forza.

We PC now!

Wecome to the promised land lads.

Does this mean we can start comparing it to ACC and modded Assetto Corsa then? Because I'm not sure people are ready for that discussion.

exactly as HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 told us it would happen, PC is Xbox’s pro console & the usual suspects are starting to push it as such

I mean Destin is basically exactly the narrative I bet we’re going to start seeing more & more - “sure the PS5 (Pro) might look better than Xbox but PC looks best!”

I think the bright, harsh light in GT7 is exactly what makes it look more realistic compared to the gamey light in Forza, which has always been the same, now just using different tech. At times GT7 looks photorealistic while playing, and I've said this before. Yes, FM is has more technical edge and that's not debatable, but I do think GT7 looks and feels much more real to my eyes.

Moreover the materials and car paint in GT look/feel like metal whereas in Forza it still has that plasticky look and feel the series has always had.

GT7 too colourful and contrasty for you? Turn the colour and contrast down.

Forza is clearly using some filter, even on bright day there is a haze filter or something. The colors are all messed up. I do not like the artisitic look and it is nice to see some Xbox fanboys are also not impressed. I rather prefer realistic look on racing sims. GT7 which is basically slightly improved GTS is still better in many situation is unbelievable. IMO Horizon are better devs than T10 now.

GT7 has a 4K 90~fps mode I wonder how good a GT8 would look if they aimed for 1440p and 60fps

I do hope that if the PS5 Pro comes out that Polyphony Digital will release a ray-tracing update for GT7 that will add a mode with ray-tracing during gameplay. At least for reflections and maybe some ambient occlusion like Forza. I would love it for global illumination as well but maybe not even the PS5 Pro would be able to pull that off.

It may be realistic to the naked eye but I think we're used to seeing things through a colour corrected process on TV. For example this broadcast from the last F1 race on a bright day shows plenty of saturated colour and nobody thinks it looks unrealistic when watching it.

I am looking exclusively at the mid day footage in the OP, and GT7 is just too bright and lacks proper light bounce. Look at the track and how it feels like a cardboard cutout. Same with trees. Its like there is no light bounce on the trees or even the cars. they look flat in comparison even if they have better materials.

I played GT sports for hours so i know how well it can look under the right lighting conditions. Especially cloudy and especially at night with bright lights. The nascar level is insane. So other comparisons with forza might tell a difference story.

All the pictures I've posted are from video(s) with Series X running in Performance RT mode.

Didn’t watch the second video but that first video makes GT7 look extremely flat and dull. Also sounds like doodoo and I see bumper car physics is still a thing in GT. It used to be my favorite gaming franchise but I haven’t dived deep into GT since the PS2 days. Guess I haven’t been missing much.

Can't say I agree at all. It looks and feels just right to me.

And in many occasions it just looks right, like in overcast days in Tokyo or dawn in the desert. It looks superb, because it looks right.

Cloudy/rainy/dark weather looks just like that, dull. It's why it looks better.

Sound wise GT has a lot to improve. The M3 sounds stellar though. :p

Nail on the head.

I personally would like a mix of GT7s over contrast look and Forzas muted look.

Not sure you can change contrast etc… in Forza settings. Not had a chance to check it out yet.

Would a wet track really have that level of reflection? Aren’t track surfaces designed to not reflect like that? You can see on GT7 footage that there is plenty of reflections outside of the track.

I could be wrong, but It just looks overdone to me.

I think when GT8 comes out with a way better lighting model, and they do side by side comparisons, you will see what Im referring to. What im seeing here is basically what i saw when John did the Forza 7 vs Forza 8 comparisons earlier this year. Just a stark difference in light bounce.

Expect similar comparisons popping up when GT8 comes out.

People know what looks natural to the eye and what doesn't. GT7 learly has more realistic and natural look to the lighting and colour palette. RT is nice to have but the art is extremely important
Forza and GT have always historically been like this.

Forza was always aiming for more technically advanced rendering options, and as a result they would be using pretty impressive technology whenever they released at the expense of framerate (for example, Forza 1 on Xbox was using much higher quality lighting and actual shaders compared to Gran Turismo 3/4, but ran at 30fps instead of GT's 60fps), but Gran Turismo always beat Forza at actual art direction. Forza 1 looks pretty dated and not all that amazing now, because the technology advanced so rapidly. GT3/4 ends up looking more realisitic because of art design choices that stood the test of time.

For comparison:

Its always been like this, GT ends up aging better because of things like more subdued color pallets and focusing on how the car interacts with the lighting of the tracks, etc.

Depends on how much water is on the track. The above video the weather is different even though it’s raining.

Forza has way more water on track than GT7.

If the water is higher than the pitted road it will be like a mirror.

memes are fine. its just that adamsapple is taking the time to post actual comparisons and getting mass LOL reactions from team sony (i counted 8 on that one post) which is not a good look for us lmao

we need to post memes in the PC performance thread which is not great at all. especially after the redfall and starfield fiascos. not a good look for ms first party.

GT7 takes it but also gets bonus points for being playable on PSVR2. Where's the Xbox vr option?
My brother is a big Xbox fan and after trying GT7 in VR has said the same thing that Xbox should be focusing on VR. They have a great library for it too especially right now. Flight Sim in VR?
