Modern Warfare 3 sold 7% better than Black Ops in its first month, whereas Black Ops sold 32% better than Modern Warfare 2.

Hooray for increasing at a decreasing rate! Maybe next year we see our first decline.

Though is not the first time that NPD info is kinda contradicted by other PRs, info. etc.
For example, even though NPD charts say that it includes limited editions and bundles. Back in April the original number for Mortal Kombat that NPD gave out said "sold just under 900K units in its first month at retail." But a few minutes later, Ed Boon said on Twitter that that number didn't included limited editions; and with those it was over 1 million (a nearly 200k difference).

Now it could be a mix of Ed Boon giving away shipped numbers, versus NPD giving away sold numbers.

Though, reading again Nintendo's PR they say that Zelda sold 600k+ in the "first week", but NPD didn't covered the entire week (well, 6 days actually), and according to the same Nintendo, Zelda was at 535k by November 25.

Or maybe is a case of different trackers, maybe Nintendo is including some numbers that NPD doesn't and/or vice-versa.

In the case of Uncharted 3, it's a great number. Though I guess the disappointment of some comes from that it didn't made 1 million with 26 days (which I kinda expected. As much as i love the series, Sony's first party games and especially sequels tend to do slightly better in their debuts and then be out of the charts the next one; except Killzone 3 which did slightly less over K2). Uncharted 2 did 535 in nearly half the time and was out of the Top 20 the following month (on individual NPD, with Mario Kart Wii been #10 with 300k+).

9 million. WOW. COD is not losing steam at all.

:( Uncharted . Was hopping for 1 million. It had full month, Sony marketed the shit out of it. Bummer. What is wrong with people?

It would have sold a million if it did not come between BF3 and MW3. Skyrim and Batman are also big sellers. Too much competition this month, and honestly i did not expect Uncharted 3 to seel this much. I though it will sell less.

Sweet numbers all around. I'm glad good games came int the top 10.

MS did a fantastic job with the 360 and Nintendo is still in the game. Sony...happily in 3rd place for the Holiday? I think so.

Also UC3 doing 700k is great. The franchise is very healthy. Not there yet with GOW franchise but who cares? It's an awesome game and deserves the sales and recognition. ND should be really proud as most ps3 first party games tend to do mediocre sales thanx to it's terrible fanbase. I'm sure the 50% did more impact than being exclusive or great looking etc etc.

Still don't understand why Uncharted doesn't push numbers like say a Gears. After UC2 people should have no worries jumping in, and the multiplayer is one of the best of the gen. So weird.

It's not really that much a gap, the 360 spanks ps3 in the US and as such so does gears, but to my understanding on a worldwide level, the series is only a couple million off from gears, despite gears launching at a much better time than uncharted (and I think many would agree, gears 1 being a better game than uc1 by a good deal)

Gears was kind of a perfect storm launch, the first 360 game to flex it's muscle, it outdid all the launch ps3 software it went up against, and was basically the biggest series to hit the system until halo, in which case MS marketed the shit out of it saying play this until halo 3, heh.

Am I missing something or why is everyone assuming the 360 is over 1,75 million? It's the biggest gap since Dec 08, so the gap is under 890k not over.

As a Zelda fan I am very happy with these sales numbers. Twilight Princess I think had slightly worse numbers and ended up gettting roughly 6.5-7 million (Wii+GC). I hope SS gets to 6 million, is that reasonable to expect?

Not at this point in the Wii's life.

Have no idea why but Sony is just unable to sell large numbers of first party software in the US. Doesn't matter which game, which genre, everything seems to sell decently but never sells amazingly.

MS is likely polishing their statement to a sheen, so we can all be appropriate blinded by the magnificence of their numbers. MW3 numbers are suitably insane as usual.

Not bad numbers for the other games though. Glad to see Uncharted, Skyrim, Batman, BF3 and Saints Row all did well. Publishers other than Activision needed some good news this quarter.

(and I think many would agree, gears 1 being a better game than uc1 by a good deal)heh.

Is this true? I jumped on UC and Gears 1 about a year after both were released and I couldn't stand Gears (though admittedly I only played about 5-6 hours). Ironically I'm replaying Uncharted 1 right now to clean up trophies in the first time in almost 2 years. Obviously both series are well loved, but was UC1 really that looked down upon? It holds up ridiculously well even after having played the sequels, in my opinion of course.

Uncharted 3 is probably a bit down on the same time period of U2, no?

Not good when you consider they had a Black Friday this time, as well.

Uncharted 2 sold around 575k in October. Uncharted 3 has a better result for a month. But you are right October+November 2009 sold more than November 2011. We have to see if Uncharted 3 charts next month.

I haven't played a gears game, but isn't is kinda apples and oranges? Gears is (at least seems like) a multiplayer title first, Uncharted is a single play title first (and for UC1, only!)

Both Uncharted 1 and 2 are over 1 million in the US, so it isn't that much of a stretch for UC3.

It's really incredible how much momentum has shifted to Xbox in the USA. It's not just reading the numbers where you can see it, you can feel it from talking to regular people.

"#NPD Data show Xbox 360 has biggest November ever selling 1.7 Million units in the US alone" -Major Nelson

Zelda's sales are so US skewed now that it's just completely ridiculous. It's done ok in Japan, badly in EU and ridiculously well in the US! With an art style like that, who would've thought it?

360 seems to have truly become king of the US now. Nintendo better get that Wii U out ASAP, while MS seem to be jumping the gun on their new hardware.

3DS is beasting right now! Almost double what the DS did in its 2nd November (480k) Good to see SM3DL doing so well too.

COD is slowing down in the US at last. It's down over last year in the EU, up in Japan and slightly up in the US, but its growth has slowed down tremendously.

Saints Row 3 is the surprise winner for this month IMO. Almost 700k! That should keep THQ's doors open for a little while longer.

Need numbers for the following...

-Halo Anniversary
-Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
-Goldeneye Reloaded
-Sonic Generations
-Need for Speed: The Run
-Rayman Origins
-WWE 12
-Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
-Kinect Sports 2

What were Nintendo's expectations for the total number of 3DS' sold this year?

16 million worldwide by March 2012 (ref), which IMO is pretty ambitious. They cut most of their numbers, but not their 3DS hardware sales prediction.

North America is at >2.37 million, and Japan is at 2.88 million. Hmm.

I suspect it's a combination of a single player game lacking multi-million selling appeal, and the multiplayer component being introduced too late in a generation to make a difference. The people who have jumped in earlier with Halo, CoD, and Gears, have already decided to stick with those games and communities. It's harder to breakthrough as the market gets more crowded.

Yeah, try telling someone who played COD4 and the subsequent COD games to try Uncharted 3 multiplayer.

Its tough.

Shit, I was one of those people too. I was hooked on COD. Uncharted 2 multi really didn't do much for me. I really wasn't going to give the U3 multi a chance, but on a whim, I downloaded the summer beta and loved it. Now I'm a diehard U3 mp player.

MP is a big selling point with a lot of people. Call of Duty started early and hooked a lot of people. Uncharted just kinda started a little too late with their multiplayer. I mean, U1 had nothing.

Who knows, maybe if U1 did have multiplayer, it could have cracked the 1 million mark with U3?

Then again, it released alongside BF3, MW3, and Syrim, so theres also that.

Not the most favored bar, but metacritic has gears 1 at 94 and uc1 at 88, as well being that gears had an addictive and very long lasting multiplayer mode where as uc1 had none, I think that helped a lot.

However, gears seems to be losing relevance, at least online wise, the number of people actively playing it is pathetic despite being fantastic. Sad times.

I'm no stranger to the phenomenon as someone living in Japan. People outside pretty much think consoles are dead over here with how PSP and DS stuff sells (and the PS2 still lives!). As for the 360/PS3 situation, it's totally flipped obviously, but Japan sure doesn't support first party stuff either. Bamco or Capcom though? Crazy support. I think Sony passed on the one big surprise IP that could have netted them impressive sales - Demon's Souls. Dark Souls under their name would have been nice to see.

Kinect really can't be the only thing driving 360 sales, right? As much as people bitch about lack of Wii software it's just as bad for the Kinect.
