Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Post-MGS4, Mr Dec 13) [Kamiya NOT Director, New Info]

Biggest problem with this trailer has to be the non-effect of hitting something with that sword. It looked incredibly dated compared to just about every other action game that's come out in the last 3 years. Swiping your sword over a badguy and having him just stand there for the next 5 swipes with barely a twitch after each cut is just..... wut.

he's a samurai bro, that's what they do. didn't you watch the last samurai starring oscar-winner tom cruise?

The 2nd pic is early/pre-release MGS4.

The final Raiden in MGS4 looked much improved over that image you posted.
Neither his lips/jaw were black in the final game.

This is the only one I could find:

I'm in just for a Platinum hack and slash with MGS dripping all over it.

It's a little quirky, but it's not like I'm gonna be able to not play it.

Joystiq said:
The newly Platinum-plated Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance features a story different from the one planned for the old Metal Gear Solid: Rising. While the game was originally intended to take place between Metal Gear Solids 2 and 4, the setting has now been transfarred to a time years after MGS4. This was done in order to let Platinum "show off what they can bring to the series." Without creating a time paradox and accidentally undoing the events of MGS4, we suppose.

Raiden joins up with private military companies for various jobs including "VIP protection, military training and other duties" as an unspecified country rebuilds from a civil war. "Little does he know that the stage is set for a clash with an enigmatic force of countless cyborgs."

This information comes via the official site, which is also the source for the new screens in our gallery. The site provides a detailed listing of staff for the title, including Platinum's Atsushi Inaba (the guy on stage with Kojima) as producer alongside Konami's Yuji Korekado. It could stand to be more detailed, as there's no game director listed.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
but it wouldn't have yoko shimomura

that's important

That doesn't mean it's not going to be composed by Yoko. :p

Dream: Music composed by Yoko, Battle system and action scenes by PG (in order to fulfill real fast time action), Graphics and everything else (except the release date) by Square Enix Team 1.

don't kill me kagari!

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
The original aim for a combination of stealth and action has also been enhanced, for a more aggressive new focus on pure, exhilarating action.
Devastating news for me :(

Before today, the much talked about "hunter stealth" gameplay was the number one thing keeping me interested in the project. But apparently, the old team were having a hard time combining the game's action and sleath mechanics into a fun, compelling whole.

Oh well, I still believe the original concept itself had potential. If only it had been in more capable hands...

in this alternate reality hypothetical yoko would be off composing for nintendos uncharted and square enixs professor layton

Maybe you can pretend that Raiden is Dante and its real title Devil May Cry Rising. :p

Other than that, what if Versus XIII was being developed by PG? :p
I think I prefer PG making their own games rather than just being an outsourcing outlet. Bayonetta was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I prefer companies making their own games, especially when it comes to franchises that I support.

Not surprised that Rising got cancelled. Has anyone ever thought that an action game which actually pauses and waits for the player to pick with the analog stick the cutting direction will be fun?

Shimomura probably finished the score to VS. XIII like 5 years ago so she's free to do whatever.

So, if this takes place after MGS4, how is he still a cyborg?

He's still a cyborg at the end of MGS4. He just gets 'normal' limbs instead of his former super-strong enhanced ones. He can still go back to being super-strong in the future.

I mean, unless I missed a scene in the ending where someone was like "hey Raiden here's the freezer where we've been keeping your old arms and legs."

He was still a cyborg at the end of 4

He just had prosthetic casings over his robot parts

If you look close you can see the unnatural lines on his body(like his mouth)

Exists in a perpetual state of Quantum Crotch Uncertainty.
Oh. So the reason they talked about nothing but cutting to kill and cutting to not kill zan-datsu zan-datsu zan-datsu at the 2010 Konami conference was because it was the only thing they could think of.

Okay then.

OK, I know miladesn is listening to the podcast now, so he will certainly pick up a few more details, but here's what I remember:
• Korekado (the new project manager, you remember him from the "fight" he had with Kojima in the MGS4 making off video) implicitly says that the project failed because of the previous director, he didn't have a clear vision for the game design. And they did the mistake of starting working on the story, mocap, etc... just based on the "cut anything" gimmick. They tried to add gameplay elements, but it always felt not enough to make a game. They made multiple prototypes, but it never really worked.
• The project was once cancelled (? 中止 in Japanese?), and then Kojima invited Platinum to Kojima Prod, and asked Korekado to make a presentation in front of Minami and Inaba
• They gave the previous plot to Platinum, but Platinum ended up asking to write it all again from scratch. Therefore, it went from between MGS 2 and 4, to after MGS4. Writing the script took 2 months (instead of 10 months with the previous failed project).
• They will an interview from Kojima and Inaba posted online on Wednesday (Iwata asks??) to give more details.
• They were playing a demo of the game during the podcast, and they said Platinum added a gameplay element. Since you can cut anything, thy added something that would allow you to enjoy the "taste" of that freedom (??? Drink or eat the enemies???)
• Enemies are cyborgs, and that red liquid is not blood but some kind of cyborg oil

I guess I need to see more gameplay but it looks bad. Not a big fan of this type of game anyway.

Writing the script took 2 months (instead of 10 months with the previous failed project).

Seems about right for MGS level script.

Still, would prefer a Metal Gear-ish story presentation in spite of all their flaws.

I think it's good to mix it up in a good way (i.e. not like Acid did which was extremely slow and difficult). We've had stealth gameplay in Metal Gear since...well, the beginning. Raiden isn't about stealth anymore. I find it really odd that people are harping on the crazy action of the game, it's like they didn't see the Raiden cutscenes in MGS4 or haven't been paying attention to even the previous version of Rising.

I see. Haven't played 4 in forever. Thought he somehow got human parts again, not like that would be a stretch in this universe.

Is this from HIDERADIO or whatever it's called now? Most of this was covered in the English KP Report... the enemies being all cyborgs wasn't though. Looking forward to the interview and extended trailer next week.

Sorry if this has already been brought up, but can I get odds on this guy being Vamp:
ilj7d3.jpg

The lock of hair hanging over his face, the almost-goatee, the scar in the middle of his forehead, rivalry with Raiden... I guess maybe Vamp was in the old Rising set pre-MGS4 and maybe they just kept the idea when Platinum came on board and changed the setting.

EDIT - k, guess Tinypic isn't working any more. I'm talking about the guy who slices the tank gunner in half and fights Raiden on the train.

I listened to English podcast:
http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/radio/the_report/the_report_152.mp3

here is a summary

gameplay is 100% Platinum Games, Story and cutscenes done by Kojima Productions. They go and check out with other, making sure characters and world are presented correctly in the game as it should be in Metal Gear universe.

they talk a lot about game's development, you should listen if you're interested.

They want to go all out with action, crazy scenes that you haven't seen in the series from Kojipro before.

The old MGS Rising story was set between 2 and 4, but when they decided to go to platinum they decided that it was limiting and changed it to set after MGS4. PG's game design demanded the story to be changed, gameplay comes first etc. They think it was a good decision.

About Zan-Datsu:
It was a a concept revealed in E3 2010, it's now taken away, they think it slows you down, you still cut thing as you see but it's different than the concept shown in E3 2010. "Gameplay comes first" again.

Who's the director?

When talking about director at PG, Kamiya is the first name to come up but he's not directing, they are unable to reveal it yet but they have great talent there for action games, it's a great team there etc.

This time the whole work flow is toward English, they will be releasing English trailers first, game is directed more to western audiences, they try to develop with that in mind. Even if game design can not be released in Japan that's fine, western gamers come first. Talking about shooters etc and how it's the biggest market. They are aiming for a global market.

This doesn't mean they are copying western games, they are making what they want, it's still a Japanese made game, but they had that in mind. They are making games, games that are fun, but thinking who will find it fun.

Yes it's from the Hideradio podcast. To be honest, I haven't listened to the recent KP reports in English. When was the last one released?

If you pay attention he does the same thing to a Gekko in a later scene and it is in a slow motion like state. So the enemies can't react because Raiden is striking them too fast.

• They gave the previous plot to Platinum, but Platinum ended up asking to write it all again from scratch. Therefore, it went from between MGS 2 and 4, to after MGS4. Writing the script took 2 months (instead of 10 months with the previous failed project).

D'awwwww..... I like convoluted plots.

Today, like the HIDERADIO it's Rising related. They probably went up simultaneously. It had Kore-P on it as well but he was dubbed in English.

Trailer looked medicore but I don't mind Platinum Games I don't know how good of a game is but I think bayonetta is really good and Vanquish is okay, So It will be interesting to see what they do.

Since it's a MGS game though I will definitely play it.

The thing I'm most troubled by is the moving of the plot from the time between MGS2 and MGS4 to post-MGS4. Wasn't the whole point to show how Raiden became a cybernetic ninja badass?

Maybe they'll eventually go back and cover that in a Vita game or something....

They could always have a flashback chapter in the middle of the game. Or hell, start the game with the flashback as a tutorial, and slowly build it up over the course of the game.

This isn't definitive, since shinkawa said that the canon story is that raiden in mgs4 is nothing but a head and spine. The end of MGS4 could have been his head and spine being "re-attached" to a real body. That would be the reason why he had the marking around his jaw on down to the rest of his body, mgs4 raiden didn't have a jaw.

He's a cyborg at the end of MGS4; the lines mark around where both arms attach to the shoulders and he has the plug holes lining his spine.
