Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Post-MGS4, Mr Dec 13) [Kamiya NOT Director, New Info]

Why do people want a prequel to mgs4 so badly? Am I missing something, or is it just an internet "THEY LIED TO USSS" tantrum?

More importantly, is this using vanquish' engine, or is it still fox?

Poor Kojima.

That PR makes this more intriguing to me. Im not crazy about it being set after MGS4 but Im curious to see how/if they make it work.
I guess nows a good time as any to play Bayonetta and Vanquish to get a feel for Platinum Games. Ive watched a lot of Bayonetta and thought it looked awesome but thats the extent of it.

exactly what happened with kojim at the vga's?
He was presenting the trailer live and reading from a script/teleprompter/something and forgot the lines, started stuttering, mumbling, and apologizing.

If you dont want detailed explanations why are you even playing metal gear, its like what it's known for.
Huh? No it isn't MGS 2 and 3 do not go into detail about many things. They never explain how people got their powers are a lot of the strange things like Liquids hand. Things like the Patriots were not explained, we just get their point and a bit of their origin. 4 explains these things and in a terrible way. Vamp is explained to have powers because of nanomachenses? Lame. That takes away a certain cool aspect of him. People with power exists in Metal Gear, can we take that at face value? I know I can, but with an explanation it makes them seem less interesting, because Vamps powers are not actually powers, just tech. Tech anyone could have.

Another thing, after 3 I had an idea of why Big Boss became what he was. But since then we've had what? 3 games that keep adding and adding things as to how Big Boss became what he was. I don't know something about him being a gun or whatever. I can't keep up with MGS anymore because these games keep going back and adding new things. In PW we basically have the Big Boss getting over the Boss again, but that already happen in Portable Ops, so what was the point? To tell us that him meeting an AI version of the Boss further cemented his view on things? Did we need this? After three I just figured the guy was pissed off about the whole thing and this leads to things like Outer Heaven, because the Boss death is a result of a world betraying soldiers. Apparently, a lot more went on, but in my view this doesn't help the character or the narrative. It just makes for a very confusing mess.

This is why the idea of Rising going back to explain Raiden's turn into a cyborg doesn't appeal to me. I myself don't need more info. I already got the picture from the various things said in MGS4. What more do we need? Do we really need to see him rescue Sunny? I mean I can imagine that hey Raiden is a pretty good solider and with the help of Big Mama who obviously has a lot of connections he's able to get her. I mean what can it really add to the story? We already know what happen.

that and stealth, which I can't even imagine being a thing anymore. I like all the stuff Kojima put in, you can latch onto rising if you want but it's nothing in the trailer made me think oh that's metal gear. Except jack's voice right before the last bit.
I don't think it looks anything like a MGS game and that's it's appeal.

new design is way better.
I like the teeth, and I guess the armor is more suited for the sick shit he does.

Also in one aspect this does make sense as a sequel. I mean how would you explain Raiden going from slicing up whole Metal gear Rays back to losing a fight against vamp?

Also the whole REVENGEANCE thing they keep going on about; a story prequel to MGS4 around revenge probably wouldn't have as much impact as opposed to a sequel where shit is on the line. I assume Rose and his kid will be in danger.

Don't care about MGS. Actually kind of actively dislike it. DO care about Platinum Games though, so I'm on board. Hope that they're not doing this instead of something like Bayonetta 2 or a new IP though.

No PC? Go fucking figure. Can only speculate a few reasons: I think it started out on FoxEngine, but now it looks like it's running on something else (like the same engine as other recent PG titles). Also, PG has never put any of their games on the PC and has zero interest in doing so for some reason. Hoped they were about to change their mind, and maybe even turn around to get Vanquish out on Steam, but looks like that's a resounding "hell no." Oh well, screw you guys. One less game I have to buy, and will play for free some 5+ years down the road via emulator if it's still even interesting.

I...don't know what to make of it. It looks like a very poor attempt at 'Westernizing' Metal Gear, despite being made by the Japanese.

It also looks incredibly unlike Metal Gear. Is stealth even an option anymore?

no bullet scar on his head = no vamp

He could just regenerate it away again, or they could've just engineered a Vamp2 based off the nano-machines they gave him.

Also:

"Deaths"

-Hit by two bullets fired by Raiden, which ricocheted off Fortune's barrier and struck him in the head and lower abdomen, in the Strut A Deep Sea Dock;
-Shot numerous times by Raiden before drowning in the Shell 2 Core B1 Filtration Chamber;
-Shot in the forehead by Raiden on the Strut L Oil Fence and fell into the ocean;
-Shot in the forehead again by Solid Snake, while in South America;
-Stabbed in the stomach twice by Raiden in South America;
-Shot numerous times by Snake in REX's hangar on Shadow Moses Island;
-Stabbed, slashed, and cut several times by Raiden atop Metal Gear REX. -Due to his nanomachines having been supressed by Solid Snake beforehand, these injuries, along with Naomi supplying him with a nanomachine suppressor so he could die in peace, finally killed him

It also looks incredibly unlike Metal Gear. Is stealth even an option anymore?

Be stealthy or cut everyone into millions of pieces?

It's oh so close but I'm a have to go for the latter.

Also I figure the title would have something like "Tactical Espionage Action" written directly above it if there was anything approaching stealth.

OK, the storyline of Metal Gear Solid: Rising definitely interested me, whereas the storyline of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance does not. The idea of exploring Raiden's transformation between MGS2 and MGS4 was exciting to me. This being set way after MGS4 and coming up with a new story, plus having Raiden revert to cyborg form, confuses the fuck out of me and isn't as interesting.

Here is my attempt at trying to understand Rising's role in the series:

Raiden's design is fairly different and more bulkier than before. I'd imagine Raiden gets free reign between his human form and cyborg form in the universe now, after the events of MGS4 (where we see him revert to human), and utilises this new and improved cyborg suit for missions. Probably funded by the money he gets from his jobs for PMC's.

Only, the big problem in the world now is the increased use in cyborgs. An even bigger focus in robotics than ever before, maybe helped by Ocelot's usage of Frogs and the emergence of Raiden. Instead of Metal Gears being the reigning military weapons, cyborgs are now in the mainstream and are utilised for the missions that require more finesse/individuality. It does seem that the technology used to create Raiden is being used to create other cyborgs (similar aesthetics and shit). Maybe there is a conspiracy in that as well.

It's the only way I can make sense of this. I don't see why it can't be a very interesting story, especially with KojiPro writing it. It's just a bit disappointing to not do what was initially said.

Ok I distinctly remember Snake Eater explaining heavily why The Boss did all her deeds, and the bosses had some words before death IIRC.. and in MGS2 I remember the very end had a lot to do about Washington and the GW program that we didn't necessarily need. I mean we really didn't even need the Patriots at all because, people in power are just doing weird things is all we need right?

Look -- its clear you like this trailer because it's NOT metal gear (it isn't even pre MGS which was stealth based, can't even be called a spin off lol) , but for people that enjoyed MGS4 and Solid as a whole, maybe understand where I am coming from. You are right about its current appeal, platinum games knows that too. Maybe they can finally sell some copies for a mindless action game this time.

For a Metal Gear game, I figure the offensive nature would be something I'd use if I was spotted...

Though I figure there's no way to sneak anymore, and I doubt we'll be able to break the environment now, too.

This isn't a stealth game....

Why is it still a Metal Gear game, then? Seriously, if they're going to take such a drastic direction, why not make a totally new franchise?

But Konami probably wants all of their franchises to no longer be what they've been. Suikoden, Silent Hill, and Castlevania are all notable examples with their more recent entries.

I just want Kamiya and Mikami to helm this to ensure maximum quality.

This being set after MGS4 is... interesting. Although I would've been fine with it being set between MGS2 and MGS4. But whatever... this isn't a MG game I will be playing for the story. I hope the actoin game play is stellar.

I actually think it's better off they are doing it AFTER MGS4 from a game play stand point. More new tech they can explore and they have more license to go bat shit crazy with cyborg upgrades and enemies/weapons.
