Spark Unlimited making High Profile 3rd Person Action/Horror Sequel [Up: Capcom Ties]

Wouldn't be surprised if it was Silent Hill. Konami has proven again and again that they don't give a fuck about the series and will outsource it to any western developer they can find for cheap. One of the reasons Konami gave why they chose Vatra Games for Silent Hill Downpour was that they were based in czech and that their country was grim so that would translate to a grim game... They just don't give a fuck anymore.

Oh shit, completely forgot about that!

Ok, well im still leaning towards Fatal Frame, because i don't want to be like you cool kids with the obvious choices :)

I think Fatal Frame could make for a good FPS anyways, given the studio's "pedigree" and "new take on an established franchise"

To be fair, Blue Castle had only garbage on it's resume before Capcom chose them to make Dead Rising 2.

Blue Castle made outlandish, well received baseball games before Capcom hit them with Dead Rising. Not a perfect pair, but talent was evident.

There is literally not a single thing Spark has done that hasn't been completely shit on by everyone. I'm surprised they're still around.

Yeah, probably RE6. I can dig it. ORC was a terrible idea and track records don't get much more mediocre than Slant 6's, but that game is looking progressively better. I'll give 'em both a shot.

Whatever it is that Spark got their hands on, god help the fans of that franchise. I had to play through Legendary for a review and man, I REALLY wanted to see it with good eyes but there were simply too many crippling technical and game design flaws to take it seriously. I hear Turning Point had the exact same problems too.

Silent Hill Downpour is set to release in 2012, could Konami announce another SH game in 2012? I don't know if it'd be a smart move towards Downpour's marketing.

Weren't the voices already recorded for RE6 though? I could swear we had another thread showing that some actors had RE6 on their resume already. Isn't it a bit too soon for that if the project was only in pre-production in November 2011?

One of their current projects is based off of a canceled Highlander game they were working on, so... think swordplay, I guess?

Doesn't it seem late for RE6 to be in preproduction? Presumably they want to reuse the RE5 stuff again this gen.

If tue, I'd be absolutely ENTHRALLED to see what the developer of Legendary: The Box, could have possibly shown to Capcom that made them say, "Wow, yep, you are the ones who should be handling our most lucrative franchise."

I actually worked with several of the designers from that project after they left Spark. As bad as that game may have been they were actually really smart dudes.

Yeah, there were (and still are) a lot of good guys at Spark - the old management was the problem, not the individuals. And basically none of the old management is there any more, which is why they have gotten this... eighteenth lease on life.

It would be cool, in general, if GAF and people could try to understand that good people can make bad games. There are SO many places things can go wrong, and it doesn't take much to ruin a project.

Too true. A lot of game development is direction. You'll have talented guys who can get the work done, but if their leads aren't conveying the right vision and philosophies, you can easily end up with a pile of bull shit

This is shy Kojima and Miyamoto are worried about their own teams. Skill and creativity go hand in hand, but they aren't mutually exclusive. Obviously KP and all of Nintendo's internal teams are capable, but they aren't having their creativity nurtured; they don't have any "idea men" besides these guys.

This is what I was thinking too.

Weren't these the guys rumored to be working on Battlefront 3? Certainly fits the description.

Did the Star Wars zombie book sell a lot better than I thought or something? I seriously, seriously doubt that LucasArts would approve of any kind of horror concept for Star Wars games.

If they are still working on Battlefront 3, then it's surely the other title that isn't detailed in this article.

Damn, hopes dashed.....The last time I looked on their page it didn't say anything about horror and I didn't read the op very well apparently. Why???!!?!?!?!? Why can't someone just make it already? So that pretty much kills any hope of BF3 coming out anytime soon..

Is there really a Star Wars zombie book? I wouldn't buy it.

doubtful... why would you contemplate adding a cover system to onimusha?

i can't imagine RE6 going to them considering how big the franchise is... it has to be something else.

I hope it's RE6. After 5 they may as well let a western studio try to make it better because I don't see how it could be worse. Hell all they have to do is make the same game but add the ability to walk while aiming and it's already a better game.

Oh god. A western stuido making RE6? Jesus it would probably turn into some Gears or Dead Space clone. That would be terrible. While RE5 wasn't that good. It sure wasn't because of it's gameplay. People who say "just be able to aim and walk" don't get it. In RE4, the mechanics and how the game played added to the tension and still kept the game in it's horror roots. RE5's problems was that it had little atmosphere, poor enemy encounters, and co-op that was pretty pointless.

Capcom just needs to get their act together and and giving it to a western studio is not the answer.

How do awesome developers keep going out of business while utter shit factories like Spark remain operational?

Crazy.

Capcom getting Spark Unlimited, of all developers, to make Resident Evil 6 makes no sense whatsoever to me. It has to be something else, surely.
