Toy commander and Fur Fighters. I have fond memories of both these games so they might be worth trying out.

Not sure what I think of Bangai-O. I know we're all tolerant of bad graphics in the retro camp but the game looks like shit (N64 roots, thanks a ton) and its definitely an odd game. I need to read up on the mechanics and give it more playtime.

What? The Dreamcast Bangaio looks nothing like the N64 one! :-/
Well it look similar of course, but everything was redone and looks a lot nicer.
Not that the N64 game is ugly in any way.

To you Dreamcast PSO fans, which is the best to play for single player offline? PSO or PSO v2.0?

PSO v2, there's really no reason to pick vanilla PSO over v2.

How did I forget about Toy Commander?! Awesome game.

The reason for Blue Stinger to exist

lmao that was awesome. That video reminded me how horrible the swimming sections of that game was. I enjoyed the other parts though.

This game didn't review really well, but I liked it.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
I thought Time Stalkers was pretty bad outside the concept but it did have an amazing VMU game to download from one of the in game shops, a simple but fun first person dungeon crawl I played until the batteries died. Candy swords ftw!

Headhunter was a disappointment to me back then.

Overworld was empty/pointless kinda like the No More Heroes one.

The structure of the game was similar too, accessing the small linear mission zones from the city overworld.

But the gunplay wasn't very fun, the stealth wasn't great and the set pieces were often lame.

Still impressive in some ways for the time and the Robocop type future depiction was neat.

With more polish and love it could have been sweet but from what I heard the PS2 sequel didn't deliver either?

I'm a lightweight, I only have 3 Dreamcast games. Soul Calibur, MvC2, and Skies of Arcadia. Dreamcast SoA would be at the top of any jrpg-list if I had one. Insane number of random battles, especially compared to modern games, but still great.

Getting a fishing controller with Sega Bass and Marine Fishing is a must. Getting a keyboard and Typing of the Dead is also a must.

Goddamn. I just looked up gameplay videos for most of the recommendations here, and...GODDAMN!

Awesome recommendations.

Also, I called a local game store in my town ( THE place in my town for anything old school ) to ask them if they have some of these games in stock.

He wants $100 for Grandia II o____o

My wallet is weeping.

IllBleed is a pretty terrible game, but is pretty insane

Typing of the Dead if you can find a Keyboard to go with it

Zombie Revenge and Project Justice for 2 of the best games on the system

Amazon warehouse deals are your friend here. A little less than 30 dollars, and when they say "Like New", they really mean it http://tinyurl.com/86a6uuu

Record of Lodoss War was awesome! Even better if you enjoyed the Lodoss world from manga/anime. I played that game so much back then, I still have my copy sitting by my dreamcast. The last boss kept killing me though, which kinda sucks. I promised myself I'd go back and finish it someday, I might actually do that soon.

And to top it off, the same company created more games on PS2 with the same gameplay mechanics and upgrade system. I didn't finish those either, sadly.

Grandia 2 and Skies are also great, definitely recommended

How could I forget Bangai-O?? Game was incredible. I didn't like the DS version at all though, haven't even bothered completing it. The DC version is way more fun.

Ah the Dreamcast, very fond memories of that. Some of my favourites were probably:

Sonic Adventure
Chu Chu Rocket
Shenmue 1 and 2
Grandia 2
Powerstone
Fur Fighters
Toy Commander (Spent hours on that)
Evolution 1 + 2
Timestalkers
Phantasy Star Online (Just offline mode is awesome)
Unreal Tournament
Jet Set Radio
Crazy Taxi
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
And I remember spending a lot of time on a game called Outtrigger, which is a pretty good arcadey shooter, probably the worst one onthe list but worth the look.

Looking back at it, I had some damn good times on the Dreamcast, so underrated for it's generation.

Rival Schools: Project Justice
Last Blade 2: Heart of the Samurai
Space Channel 5
Jet Grind Radiooooo
Maken X

I spent about three weeks finishing Record of Lodoss War for the DC anniversary.

Those were a fun three weeks. (And the final boss is hell. Gear up or you have no prayer.)

Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves
Ooga Booga
Light gun games if you have the guns and a CRT TV
Sword of the Bezerk
Rayman 2

- Toy Commander (loved the non-military missions most of all)
- Cosmic Smash
- Bangai-O (especially the Swing release with English text)
- Fighting Vipers 2
- Project Justice
- Dynamite Cop 2

Bought this and hated it so much, returned it within a couple of hours despite it only costing £10 IIRC. Boring naked man in boring brown RPG land. Then again, I'm not fond of Diablo, et al, and I think I hoped for something akin to the Lodoss War anime. :)

Gauntlet Legends was my favorite game on Dreamcast. Don't know how the N64 and PSOne ports turned out.

Go play Mars Matrix.

Been trying like hell to find that for less than $30... :(

Headhunter was a disappointment to me back then.

Yeah, I agree. Most of the game is smoke and mirrors but it's cool if you don't look too closely.

Make sure your Dreamcast is upto it, with the almost relentless disc accessing, this game puts more of a strain on the GD ROM drive, than just about any DC game out there.

Something to consider on now more than 10yr old hardware....

I know this is probably taboo (I own the retail version) but the ripped version by Echelon (think it was them) was a work of art. Has a custom asset compressor running on the fly in the background.

He wants $100 for Grandia II o____o

Don't you dare fucking do it! I got mine on eBay this summer for like a $12 BIN! Complete with OST disc!

Gauntlet Legends was my favorite game on Dreamcast. Don't know how the N64 and PSOne ports turned out.

As expected they were ass compared to the DC version, but I think the Xbox release of Dark Legacy is the best (higher FPS for one thing). Can someone correct me?

I thought there'd be way more Outtrigger recommendations...

I sang Outtrigger's praises for a long time on the internet and no one cares. Graphics are fantastic and it's very unique, but sadly the single player missions are pretty weak and it's pretty shallow. The Club was basically a spiritual sequel to Outtrigger though.

Not nearly enough Toy Commander in this thread. Best DC game ever! So much time lost to its multiplayer.

After that play:

Skies of Arcadia
Record of Lodoss War
Trickstyle
Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage
Chu Chu Rocket
Coaster Works (Badass rollercoaster game)

Jet Set Radio - you should beat this at least 100 times since it is the best game ever made

Sega Rally 2
Sword of the Berserk
Powerstone
Skies of Arcadia
Chu Chu Rocket
Grandia 2
Daytona USA
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Shenmue
Shenmue 2
Virtua Tennis
Crazy Taxi
Mr. Driller
Super Puzzle Fighter II X
Dynamite Cop
Super Street Fighter IIX
Rayman2
Typing of The Dead
House of the Dead and other light gun games
and too many shooters to think of right now

In addition to what you already have:

Bangai-O (action)
Skies of Arcadia (jrpg)
Grandia II (jrpg)
Mars Matrix (shmup)

Skies of Arcadia was better in its time, but Grandia 2 has aged better. Both are worth playing if you like jrpgs though.

The DC Bangai-O is the best in the series if you only play one. The XBLA one is the best if you play all 3 games in order IMO.
