I'll have to give your method a try, because supersampling always butchers my performance. Even 2x2 Supersampling via Nvidia Inspector, which should be 3840x2160, is unplayable, and I'm on a GTX 570.

I think that some compatibility bits are better than others in terms of performance (ex. 0x004030C1 vs 0x000010C1 for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning). That's one of the benefits of forcing OGSSAA via EDID override; just go into the options menu and select any resolution that's higher than the display's native resolution.

I gave Mass Effect 2 another go with 2x2 Supersampling. Framerate fluctuates between 30 - 45fps depending on what I'm doing and looking at, so it's playable, but the hit is a bit too large in my opinion. I could lock it at 30 to prevent the annoying dips, but going from a near unbroken 60fps to 30fps is...very noticeable, even though the IQ is improved.

What? Can you go into more detail? There isn't even a profile in inspector for this game yet. I want more AA!!!

Am I right in thinking you don't get any texture blur problems with SSAA?

Texture blur, as in blur that can occur with SGSSAA? Yes and no, apparently there are occasions where SSAA will produce blur/fuzziness where weirdly enough SGSSAA doesn't. However you don't seem to need to make LOD adjustments when using SSAA.

That's what I meant yeah. Some games still look pretty blurry with SGSSAA no matter what I do with the negative LOD bias. Half Life 2 is one that comes to mind (4 x SGSSAA):

By a glorious coincidence, I've been trying all morning to find a hex value which will allow me to use SGSSAA with Silent Hill 3 and 0x004030C1 is the only one that works. So thanks!

That's pretty close to what I'm getting, actually. If I had v-sync off, I'd probably get a bit more than 45 (my refresh rate for 3840x2160 is 45hz), but I've had dips into the low 30s during intense firefights.

Yeap, HL2 is one of those games for me as well, no matter what I did it was constantly blurcity. However, hl2 is old enough to easily work with SSAA on the other hand the game's in game 8xMSAA does an admirable job.
SGSSAA is better because it has more letters.

This is fact.
Agree.

Heh, I have had SH4 a long time but never figured out how the hell to play it. It seems like it could be fun but it's always the games that need a guide-you-through-each-metiulous-step mode that don't have them.

Man I wish EDID override worked with my monitor. I tried it and my monitor just simply displayed shit at whatever resolution I set (3Kx1.8k, etc)

edit: This is what happens when I try OGSSAA via EDID, my monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050, but it will display this..pixel density is ridiculous to say the least.

I love Kasumi's design, too bad she doesn't get much screen time outside of her DLC mission.

Anyways, with ME3 on the horizon, I'm about to start up another ME1 and ME2 replay. Did you have any problems using Texmod and forcing AA at the same time? For some reason when I played ME2 with Texmod active, it didn't recognize my AA settings in Nvidia Inspector. I love those improved textures, but not as much as I hate jaggies.

Hm, I use Texmod and it seems to be okay. :/ Are you sure it's not accepting the settings? Because I use 32XCSAA at 1440p, and the game still has jaggies, it drives me nuts. The aliasing is very very stubborn. You'd have to apply normal AA and SGSSAA to remove it either fully or as much as the engine will allow.

Works for me. Like when I was testing supersampling before, and it knocked back my framerate. I'm using 4xMSAA and the effect is there. Generally though I fucking the way AA comes out in UE3 games. I swear it never looks as nice or clean as it does in most other titles.

Resized from 7680x4320 with 4xSSAA

Nope, I'm on an AMD card and simply just using the "tiledshot 4 1024" function.

Oh I see nice, does that only apply to screenshots or does the game run at 4x ssaa all the time?
