Journey (PSN) - thatgamecompany's new game!!! (Game Releases in Spring 2012)

The footage looks amazingly pretty. What's the point of the game though? It sorta looks like a puzzle/platformer? I haven't been keeping up with the info.

You begin the game with a mountain in the distance, and you solve puzzles on your way to that point, some times you'll see a second character being played by someone else, and you can sing to them.

Walk through the desert with a kickass scarf and surf the sand.

Also: The kickass scarf lets you fly for a certain amount of time and you can increase the length of it by finding pieces of scarf around the environment.

The beta was the best game I played last year (not even kidding), so I can't freaking wait for this game.

Ah it's finally done. Still not sure if I'll grab it right away, the demo left me really cold as it's basically the world's most gorgeous barking simulator. No gameplay at all. But we'll see, maybe I'll get it just to have my mind fucked by the beauty.

There is a demo?!!

Very excited about this game. I have been on a media blackout for the most part (saw the first batch of screens and a trailer though). I loved Flower and this looks even better. Also looking forward to the soundtrack.

Please release this soon :)

Same here, I know the wait will be worth it.

Here's hoping for 3/13 or 3/20, the closest dates to GamesFest at the Smithsonian, at which Kellee and Robin are speaking. When is the Spring PSN promotion usually held?

Haven't been keeping up at all since I wasn't the biggest fan of their previous works, but...

That sounds promising. What exactly is your move set in the game? Is there a video that really shows how the meat of the game play is?

Control wise, your tool set is very limited. You can 'sing', which is more like shouting, or barking really, this is a way of communicating with either other players, or the various AIs in the game. It can also 'touch' various fabrics in the environment. The fabrics can be activated using either the singing, or by running along them, to make them saturate. Once done, a few things can happen, they can split off and connect to your character, or they can cause something in the environment to change in order to solve a puzzle. Collecting the pieces that connect on to you plays into the other core mechanic, jumping. The amont of jumps you can do is tied to the length of material you have.

It's hard to explain what is so good about the game really. Flower tried to tell a meaningful story without the use of language, or people, and while I think it was successful, the story it told was very limited. Journey looks to be attempting a much more complex story. The beta had a number of optional 'cutscenes' that appeared to tell the story of a lost civilization, destroyed by the sands which make up the desert you're in.

You can slide around and jump, that's it.
There was a beta up on PSN last year, it was majestic, it was awesome.

Search YouTube, there's videos of gameplay there. :)

Holy shit, jumping sounds like it's ultra important. Kinda like a few of the mechanics explained. Interest rising...

I love thatgamecompany and all they make. Jenova Chen and Kellee Santiago always make quality work. I am looking forward to buying Journey the day it comes out.

Report: PS3-Exclusive Journey Coming Out in March

Thatgamecompany, the studio behind Flow and Flower, is one of the most revered indie developers in the entire gaming industry. And PlayStation 3 gamers know their unique forays into the gaming space all too well.

As the third title in their three game development deal with Sony, Journey, has been much-anticipated. We last saw the game back in December, and were told the game is coming out in the second quarter of 2012. But now, we have some new information that indicates the game is coming out sooner than that.

According to Issue #227 of Game Informer Magazine, Journey will be out before the second quarter. A preview of the game on page 18 of the issue in question ends with the following sentence: "No matter how you describe [Journey], it's a title that should absolutely be on your radar as we near its release in March."

We've reached out to Sony for official comment and/or confirmation, and will update when we hear back.

I read a rumor somewhere that March's issue of Pulse will review the game and usually when it does that the game is released within a week or two. Here's hoping!

I can't wait for this game to come out! Day one purchase for me.

It's coming out next month?! Nice!

This is the closest we'll ever get to a Team Ico game this gen. It better be as good as I'm hoping it to be.

I'd probably become a PS+ member again just so I can get this a week earlier. Not just because I'm hyped for it, but I don't really want to get it the same time as Downpour. Then again, the 6th is the same week as Mass Effect 3.

Man...March is insane for releases.

I'm excited about the news of a release date, but Sony using weeklong PlayStation Plus exclusivity of this to justify the cost of their rental service is really aggravating.
