I bought Rabi Laby recently, and it's a pretty brilliant game. It's about on par with Braid and Limbo in terms of presenting fiendishly brilliant puzzles despite featuring extremely simple mechanics. Don't overlook it!

Isn't it Japan exclusive?

VVVVVV or Sakura Samurai????

I never played VVVVVVV before.

VVVVVVV is my recommendation. I have both and while Sakura Samurai is good VVVVVVV is just non-stop fun if you can handle the difficulty. Every aspect of its presentation and gameplay is amazing, the music, the gameplay, the graphics, all of it.

I haven't tried Sakura Samurai, but VVVVVV is really great.

Challenging, stylish and addicting. A real tangible gaming experience. (FYI though, one of the unlockable modes is currently glitched, but it doesn't effect that main campaign.)

Yeah, read about that.

Will that eventually get fixed???

Holy fucking shit at the Nintendo Zone trick. My nearest Nintendo Zone is many thousand of miles away. Thanks!

Should someone make a thread? Or this getting out might cause Nintendo to shut this trick down?

Sakura Samurai is different than I was expecting, in a good way. Folks keep calling it a Punch-Out!! kind of a game, but it really isn't -- it's more of a classic brawler with smart/parrying enemies. The only problems I see with the game so far are:

1) It seems like it will be far too short. I'm already most of the way through the second stage.

2) There's no "quick save" function.

3) On normal difficulty, the fastest way to get gold is by losing. That just seems silly. I know it's to help folks who are struggling, but it currently seems as though you're better off getting killed once and then harvesting a gold-gorged stage than you are doing any of the special challenges.

4) There's no penalty for death? Perhaps there is, but combined with problem 3, this makes the game far too... umm... not "easy", but too easily steamrolled.

wifi Nintendo Zones trick

Given that my wifi signal doesn't make it more than 6 feet out of my house, disabling security merely means you'd need to be in the driveway to do anything. Time to test this out...

I have an old router laying around so I did the Nintendo Zone thing. Too bad there's nothing good there, but hopefully someone figures out what Best Buys wifi name is and we can get on there and watch some Pokemon episodes or whatever.

Here's what I did on Windows with a Gateway and a router.

I have a Gateway which is working as my cable modem and a router so I connected a cable from the back of my gateway to the WAN port of my router and then connected a cable from my PC to the back of my router to change the settings because my Gateway wouldn't let me through to my router. Then I changed the SSID to "attwifi", turned on SSID broadcasting, and set my security to None. Then I flipped on my 3DS and clicked on the Nintendo Zone Icon and connected.

This way I didn't have to mess with my real security setup on my gateway and I can just turn off this extra router when I'm not using it.

You should be able to reach your router's settings by typing 192.168.1.1 into your web browser's address bar. But if you didn't know that, you probably shouldn't be going there. :p

Gotta agree. There's not a lot of interesting stuff to see. None of the third party game videos are in 3D, even. Someone find a way to get the demos! :(

I see, Nintendo Zone is getting demos on Feb. 6th. That would be a good time to try again. :)

"Starting Feb. 6, Nintendo Zone™ will offer a variety of new content, including playable demos of select Nintendo 3DS video games and a dedicated Pokémon™ section that will feature full-length episodes of the Pokémon TV series. "

Currently sitting in Stanstead Airport and Nintendo Zone intalled itself on my system. Is this a stealth PAL update or did I get from the airport?

About the nintendo zone tethering method.
Why don't you filter the access to your 3DS ONLY by using the MAC ADDRESS FILTER option in your tethering software?

Now I am jelly. I want a Nintendo Zone in PALand :(

I am using MAC address filtering. I don't like broadcasting my SSID all the time though, so I'll just turn that router off when not using it.

There's supposedly also some free hotspot in Hamburg that installs Nintendo Zone. Probably some early tests or something.

EDIT: Seems you simply passed one of the few AT&T hotspots in Europe. The same trick that works in the US works here as well. Funnily enough, the content is localized. I get a German "coming soon" page.

Yesterday I finally transfered Pinball Pulse (DSiware) over to my 3DS. I started it cause I just wanted to see how it looks on the 3DS.
3 hours, 2 Pandoras Towers and several "I am Zeus; KING of the GODS" later my 3DS battery died.
seriously, get this game.

Oh really? Hmm.. Maybe it will hit Düsseldorf also. Great news.

I have a spare code for kid icarus.. I don't know if its account exclusive or not..

But I got my first one and downloaded the game, then I got an email saying that I have a NEW code for it...

I'm generous, if someone really wants the code you can have it..

yeah, thanks again but apparently it is indeed region-specific. here's to hoping for another spare showing up when the retail game drops! and again, thanks, appreciate the sentiment.

As I said upthread, over Christmas it appeared on my 3DS while sitting in Southampton airport.

Next week's EU update according to the Nintendo Channel:

Wii VC: The King of Fighters '97 (Neo Geo, interestingly enough this means '96 will be skipped even though Japan got it on VC)
3DS VC: Kirby's Block Ball (GB)
DSiWare: Crazy Cheebo: Puzzle Party and Gaia's Moon

Wow @ the Nintendo Zone trick. My router supports broadcasting multiple SSIDs with different settings (guest wifi networks), I'll try it tonight.

Wait a seconds... does the 3DS connect to the Nintendo Zone hotspot without the need for setting up the wifi connection?

I don't know if this has been posted, but apparently Mutant Mudds is selling well.

Great news for a great game! I hope the eShop can continue to flourish like it has been.

Ok just finished the first boss of SS and I gotta say I love it. It definately is what it pretends to be, a samurai combat game. Combat system is simple yet pretty elegant, dodge incoming attacks and attack when there's openings. Game doesn't rewarding for taking the initiative and attacking before they drop their swords on you, but rather for dodging in the last second.

Game is relatively tough if you're not careful and not know what you're doing. By experimenting in the second stage, my blade got dull and was pretty hard to kill enemies and I didn't have the dodge mechanic quite down, but started again and tried to be a lot less reckless and had great results. The precision point mechanic is great, as it involves risk/reward, while several enemies involve different patterns. Blocking can help you protect from enemies that you're not sure what they're capable off (saved me from the first boss for example) at the expense of dulling your sword.

Storming the castle courtyard and fighting tons of enemies felt really satyisfying. The game is very pretty to look at and to listen too. Towns and NPC's add a lot to the charm.

Really enjoying my time with it, and if you're looking for something like this I won't hesitate to recommend it.

Oddly enough, I haven't tried blocking yet. : P That might have saved me some game overs.

But yeah, I'm liking this game too. It really fun to dance around enemy attacks in big scraps while chaining defensive combos together. The stage-like level progression make it a good quick play game, and the townsfolk totally add some weight to the adventure.

Yeah, it connects automatically. Also at Stansted it was the only option for free Wifi. Browsing GAF on a tiny screen isn't the most fun experience.

Actually the most lucrative way to get gold is by cashing in large amounts of Precision Points. You can easily get 100+ gold if you cash in 20+ at a time, as opposed to dying and walking away from the bonus gold stages with maybe 20.

I played some more Sakura Samurai last night and beat the big shogun boss. It's even more awesome than I originally thought! It gets really good once you get the hang of it.
