A mix of training to learn my moves and a lot of quick battles for titles.
I can see myself improving against the AI. It just never transferred over to live players.

Yeah, quick battles don't teach you squat. If I played real fights like I do quick battles I get owned hard.

As Q said, playing against AI only teaches you how to beat AI. Someone who is 1-30 already has 31 matches worth of experience against human beings.

Yeah but I figure I'd at least learn to do something against someone who is just spamming a single move. I dunno. I suck. I'll play more online and try to get better.

Wave dash? How does it work? What do you mean by i10 a attack?

Wave dash is continuously cancelling his crouch dash (f, n, f, d/f ~ repeat) Unless it's just qcf in this game, in which case it's qcf~f repeatedly. It tech crouches, which is a fancy way of saying the crouch dash goes under highes. He can go low (hell sweeps), high (godfist), or cancel it into anything he wants to do. De

i10 means his A attack is 10 frames, the fastest in the game (they average at i12, Natsu is the only other person with an i10). DJ and Natsu can punish and interrupt things most other characters in the game can't.

Yes, but what one attack? Is it a B attack? If so, sidestep. Is it an A attack? Is it high? Mid? Low?

Edit: Thanks Skilletor. I'll have to practice the wave dash.

Also, why is he banned for tournaments?

Oh, and I couldn't do even one just guard in training. I would tap it once and release right as a hit would come but I never got it. I was practicing against a Seigfried A.I and I would do one of his very slow swings to try to get it, but no dice. :( Any tips?

His wave dash is 623 then repeat 236 for each time you wanna redash. Takes a bit to get used to, I haven't used it in matches much. It's a quick way to get in on people and sets up for his WGF (though I can't do it reliably), spinning demon, or dragon uppercut.

His i10 (impact 10, takes 10 frames to come out) is his AAB move. The first hit comes out in 10 frames, one of the fastest attacks in the game (besides natsu). Punishes tons of stuff. The last hit (B) is unsafe, so you should only do it if you know it'll hit. It's a great pressure move.

His dragon uppercut is also awesome, it's ringout potential is huge. You can land it after his 22/88 B too. On it's own it's very unsafe though.

If you're on PSN I can show you my Jin, though it's not that good.

Also, why is he banned for tournaments?

Because he's a CAS character.

I tend to run into these battles online and they do the same move over and over and over and over and....over... :( So my Raph will do the same! 6 B B B alllllll day!

Thaaaaaat's the one. Ran into someone doing that twice the other day. 0 wins, like fifteen losses. :p

I haven't practiced JGs yet, but I've had some success against canned strings in training. The trick is that you have to press and release guard within 4 frames of the attack touching your character. The problem might be that you're holding guard for too long. That's my guess, as that's what I was having the most trouble with.

He is banned in tournaments because, as of right now, there is no solution to him being a CaS character. People worry that it will be difficult to set up and make sure that the DJ is the default size, making sure the character is on every setup at tourneys.

Ah okay cool. When you guys are saying dragon uppercut, do you mean SRK B or SRK A? SRK A and then holding up forward if it hits is a great move, and SRK B you can juggle with a lot if you are doing it 3 frame perfectly right?

Makes sense he's banned at tournies then. Also explains my one rage quit message today where the guy was crying that I didn't pick a "real SC character" and was just doing a CaS one instead.

There is the wind god fist (WGF), the launcher.
There is the electric wind god fist (EWGF), which is the 3 frame version (launcher, guard break)
And the thunder god fist (TGF), which is the SRK looking move.

TGF might be called something different with DJ. I haven't played him yet in this. :) Going off of Tekken knowledge and vids I've seen.

The way I get my JG to come out is to tap G twice quickly. It might not be the proper way to do it but hey it's working for me.

The SRK A9, ya it rings out like made. The WGF (SRK B with perfect timing) is his best move hands down, wish I could use it though :(. His best and most damaging combos use it, and cost no meter :(

It's called Rising Uppercut/Wind God fist in this version.

10-47 online.

awww yeeaah.

lol I'm so terrible at this game.

A little bummed with the lack of single player stuff but the online is so good(outside of the constant getting my shit pushed in...that sucks).

I had to resort to using Elysium( I have a basic gameplan with most of the female characters outside of Ivy so it kinda worked out somewhat) and her cheap ass CE for cheap wins.

Gonna pick up Xiba and actually learn more than two moves with him.

I just ran into 2 Devil Jins in a row... and then a Leixia. They all destroyed me.

I'm 11 and 33 now... lol. At least my game has somewhat improved.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I think I'm 12-4 in ranked right now as Xiba. Lost to an Ezio when my controller battery died(derp), and the other three were Natsu, who is the bane of my existence.

The worst part about this is that 80% of the people are stupid CaS with a penis. I want to beat those people so badly because they're so stupid. I don't get mad at games normally, but I get angry when they make me look at their stupid inappropriate character for a few minutes.

What is it with guys and their fascination with penises (peni?)?
It's really annoying.

Really? I haven't met any characters with penises. Well, on the outside of their clothes, anyway.

rotothirteen. You're not in my Met Players list, so I guess I still have my dignity kinda?

Almost every fight I'm getting tonight (first time playing online) is some fat character with a penis made of some random objects in CaS and a really high pitched voice. It bothers me infinitely more than doing poorly.

I try all the time to break their stupid clothes so I can stop looking at it.

What version are you playing? Maybe it's an Xbox thing. :p

Maybe it's just a thing at the very low ranks. I've only got about 20 games online.

I just had a really good fight against a Ezio. Matches came down to like a sliver of health. And we were both varied in our attacks.
We both probably sucked. But it's so nice to play someone with the same skill level and style of play.

(Looking good is more important to me than winning by spamming 1-2 moves)

I turned on one of those streams linked earlier just to see how better players play. Aren't announcers supposed to talk about the match? Instead, they're talking Asians, American history, and girls.

I thought I'd learn some stuff like in SC2 streams.

So got this game today, figured id just burn through single player which took a few hours...that shit is jank... mean I know a story in a fighting games, expectations are low but my god it's fucking terrible...TERRIBLE! I mean basically they needed to meet the shipping date, so they just decided not to bother with 75% of the cut scenes and used the concept art instead. and the cut scenes that they did have time to make are bad.

And I have just been told there’s no unique story/ending for each character on arcade mode seriously WTF! SC is usually so good for its single player content even if IV was a step back, but V is just a joke.

Anyway as I have only played the story, I haven't the learnt the intricacies of the combat yet, so far it feels fast and fluid though the critical edge or whatever it calls really break the flow, I haven't tried all the character or played with other human beings yet, which is where the meat of the game should be, but as a single player experience I'm pretty disappointed

Tourney didn't start yet on Levelup. The TS stream seems ok.

I was very very cold on this game after I saw what the single player content is. But the fighting feels good. I like playing it. I just wish there was more. I am warming more to the game but still very sad that the focus shifted to the online stuff. I'm trying to learn to play online so I can get more life out of this game.
One major change with my play style is now I'm focusing on learning 1 character. One of the things I loved about past SC's is that I'd just spend all my time in single player learning every character's moves and stuff. But there's nothing to encourage me to do that in this one.

I dislike the Critical Edge stuff right now and it feels fights go a lot faster. Like, every hit is too much damage or something. I don't know.

Tourney didn't start yet on Levelup. The TS stream seems ok.

Oh.

I switched to the TeamSp00ky stream. It's lower quality image, but they're actually saying stuff that I can learn from.
Not racist and sexist comments.

One major difference I notice with online play is that everyone only uses a small set of their characters moves. I'm used to using a lot because I just enjoy a match that looks really fancy with lots of variety. I have to learn to find what my best moves are and just use those instead of trying to use everything.

I have never raged over a fighting game as I have in this game so far. I want to main Ivy and while I'm finally starting to get a handle of her moves, it's still such an uphill battle to win against someone it's sad. I talked to Hyrul and Kayane yesterday on the UK Namco Casual stream and Hyrul said that Ivy is going to take some time to get used to but he believes she will be one of the strongest characters in the game when it's all said and done. Right now I'm having a hard time believing that and I super close to switching to Mitsurugi/Viola.

"I'm listening to them talking about SC and it's like... wow. I thought SC was more for casuals. The stuff they're saying is making my head spin."

Pretty much any game that people get competitive about will eventually get "science'd" out.

ugh. This game doesn't support loading custom character data from two different profiles in offline vs mode, does it? Wonder why so few fighting games care to support that.

Ah fair enough.

Soakrates is doing very well. Maxi looks like fun. I would try him out, but I have to stay committed to this one character I've spent like 20 hours on already.

Picked up Tira today. Rough start with her but I'm starting to get the hang of her. Having to manage her mood stances is interesting. "Oh shit I'm at 50% health, I better blow one of my CEs and go back into shitty mood stance"

Hilda was giving me all sorts of problems. The constant barrage of break attacks and blinding light confuses the shit outta me.

Hah, love the little humor in this guide. On page 98 with all the terminology (defines all the acryonmes and long definions for what they mean). Between the definitions for Okizeme and Post-GI there's this.

SCV guide said:
Polyvalence
In chemistry, polyvalence or multivalence refers to species that are not restricted to a distinct number of valence bonds. (Species with only one valence are univalent (monovalent)). For example, the Cs+ cation is a univalent or monovalent cation, whereas the Ca2+ cation is a divalent or polyvalent or multivalent cation and the Fe3+ cation is a trivalent or polyvalent or multivalent cation. As a result, examples of polyvalent cations include the Ca2+ cation, the Fe3+ cation and Siegfried's 3B
