Playstation Vita western launch thread | It only does everything, everywhere.

Wii removed it 4-5 years after release; N64 and previous generations are more than a one system gap, which is what he's arguing.

Yes it does. Just not total backwards compatibility.

It did play GBA games until the DSi model. Which was what? Three years after launch?

I don't disagree with where you're coming from, I just see no reason to be so against his post when it's contrary to the point.

1) Didn't realize he was arguing only one generation. I'm just saying the expectation of backward compatibility shouldn't be there. It's a perk, but it's not something to be relied upon.

2 and 3) It totally slipped my mind that the Xbox had emulation and I had forgotten about the GBA port in the DS. Totally my bad on those.

Sorry for asking again, but is it possible to transfer saves from memory card to memory card? If so, I'm guessing it's through USB to PC to USB again?

It looks like you can back saves to the PS3 givent here's a PSVita Data Utility or whatever on it. Dunno if it's across all games (except any that might be locked for some asshole reason) or if it's only for games that actually have cross platform functionality like BlazBlue or Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

seriously. can we talk about the vita launch? enough umd talk and flamewars.

Agreed. Sorry for the thread derail. :)

I think I finally settled on Rayman as my launch game. I missed out on the console versions, and really want to throw some support behind quality 2d platformers, and Ancel.

Don't have a PS3 with me at the moment. :(

i love the ps3 game. i haven't played much since my christmas break but i got pretty far in it.

i'm definitely looking at getting it on vita but i might wait for a price drop since i already own the game on ps3.

I doubt it's ONLY PS3 unless they're being really anal or something (which they have been thus far admittedly), but there's AN option at worst I think. Most likely it's doable with the Content Manager too given that explicitely has a saves folder, and doesn't mark it PSP saves or anything. Though if you're pessimist you could just assume that's due to minis, PS1, and maybe TG16 games.

That makes sense. At $40, it is a bit high. I also want to pick up Escape Plan and Motorstorm RC. I am really hoping to see the Vita do well enough to encourage indie developers to put more games at lower pricepoints on SEN. I figure I need to do my part and pick up a couple of SEN games at launch as well.

Motorstorm RC gives me strong "Super Off Road" vibes, which is always a good sign! :D

What are you picking up at launch?

Thanks.

I'm just getting a 4 GB at launch since I don't plan on getting much download games yet but hope to upgrade to a larger card down the road and transfer my saves to that.

i have wipeout, hot shots, and uncharted preordered. i also have a 32gb card ordered so if some digital stuff grabs my eye i might get it. stardust is a pretty likely purchase for me. i have a bunch of psp digital games that i haven't finished so i'm really not desperate for a lot of games at the moment.

I'm in that same boat. I really want to go back and play some of the psp rpg's that I missed. I figure this will tide me over until prices drop a bit and more games are released.

Just a question about gravity rush release date in US.

I see the dates in Amazon as May 29, and I heard from somewhere here that it is actually a launch title for Europe (DL only).

If I am not mistaken European launch is sometime during February as well, right?

so why is US getting this game so late compared to Europe?

Amazon's date is a placeholder. We don't know when the EU version is coming out either.

It IS more credible though because it matches GameStop's and is on a Tuesday. Doubly so if localization issues cropped up, meaning it might not be a simple "take a few weeks/extra month to get out" issue. Still, I hope it's just a guess/conservative placeholder date and it's REALLY out in March or something.

I would say its unlikely to be the date just cause Sony hasn't said anything regarding the topic. My guess would be just around a month delay, but this is more my wishful thinking than anything else. If it's any longer then I'm going to be a very sad person.

So what's preventing third party companies from making ps vita memory sticks?
Kingston made memory stick pro duos... Is this situation different?

As the Castor Krieg said, a company can only manufacture something that is patented if they have a licence from the holder. If they dont then they can get slapped with a suit.

It's possible that someone in China will make some since stopping them will be much harder, but there are no guarantees that the 32gb card you buy will actually be anything more than 128mb.

Sony licensed the tech for thir old stuff, and they will probably do the same with this in time. Who knows when that might be though.

If I remember correctly PS2 did the same thing with proprietary memory cards. After a couple of months, the third party memory cards started rolling out. I don't think they were officially endorsed and there were rumors about them not working right, but they were out there.

I would expect the same thing to happen here. Even if its just from "overseas" (possibly counterfeit or otherwise shady) shops, there will be alternatives.

If anyone wants to go through a little effort, Lockerz has some really awesome deals on Vita stuff. 3G Launch bundle for $239, Hot Shots/Modnation/LittleDeviants for $21, 32GB Memory for $75, Uncharted for $35 etc.

http://shop.lockerz.com/electronics/playstation-vita.html

I've found that the best way to grind up points for the discounts is to watch "Behind The Seams" videos in the video section (and ignore/mute them while they play b/c theyre horrible) for 300 points and you can get points to apply quickly/easily.

I picked up HSG. Debating on a couple more...

I get a "There are no products matching the selection." message :/

Edit: This isn't even available for the US, is it?

Edit 2 (lol): Wait I guess PTZ is the site's discount currency? Gah, so confusing.

Tried inserting CC info into my JP account and the "country" box is still locked, so no.

Guess our only option is to buy a Jpn PSN card off ebay and have them just send the code, we then enter the code on our Jpn account and Bobs your uncle.. Beats him paying near $100 for the hard copy import

IIRC they did the same with PS1 too and i remember buying one of those cheap ones and it didn't save shit :(. The thing went though the saving procedure for the game saying it was saved but when you actually checked it nothing was there.

For PS2 MCs that says the support MAGICGATE were the best shot.

All of this is reminding me how Sony has basically gone back to the PS1/PS2 days :/

Sooo .. is it mad that my most anticipated game for the Vita (and the game I will be playing come the 22nd) is Monster Hunter Freedom Unite? ... them dual sticks...

Yeah, totally forgot about MHFU!

Now have an excuse to actually play it again after quiting at about 200 hours

Need some kind of MoHun since US aint' gettin' shit any time soon T___T

i'm just thinking, I live in the uk where games are floating around £30ish and then uncharted at £35, if I buy a vita here can I make an american login and then use the US store to buy my games? it would be like £23 per normal priced game then.

Is the PSN store still the only place to buy PS games digitially? (in EUR)
It's be nice if other sites, like amazon / play.com could sell digital versions of vita games.

Yes it is and I really doubt this will change.

I'm wondering this too.

Are those any good? I noticed there were a bunch of Armored Core games up on the European PSN.
They are fairly direct ports of the PS2 games, which were pretty well-liked by AC fans. I have them on PS2, I just haven't gotten to them yet. From what I've played they look great (I love AC games), I would just rather not play them with CLAW or some other awkward compromise.
