Some of the ships do look cool, I would have to agree. But I think it comes down to me rather spending the money on a new building over a ship of some sort. It's too bad, too - Star Wars sets accrue value like WOAH after they go OOP.

This is kind of where I'm at. I don't have any "main-line" Star Wars sets yet, but I just ordered Luke's Landspeeder and the TIE Fighter to get a feel if I am interested or not. I guess I could set them up as display pieces, or just save them for my son in case he ever gets interested in SW after his Ninjago phase is over, but otherwise I won't be "playing" with them at all, and every dollar I spend on one of those sets takes away from a dollar I could spend on a modular building, or saving up to get some big sets that I missed, like the Green Grocer, Eiffel Tower or Taj Mahal.

I may just stick with the UCS sets (anything in the 10,000 number range), as they are fun and involved builds, make great display pieces, and usually increase in value the most.

I am looking for a decent 1000+ piece set that's a neat build, which should I do next?

I was kinda leaning towards the main street ones like Grand Emporium, but I figure I should ask you before dropping 100 bucks.
I really enjoyed the Mini Modular set. It's very cool-looking and clever (almost like pixel art), and I really enjoyed the build (although you have to be very careful about not mixing up colors of those tiny little pieces.

It's over 1300 pieces and occupied me for an hour or two per building over the course of a week.

If you can get it for cheap (I got mine for MSRP of $80 at the OKC Lego Store) it's totally worth it, IMO.

Well look at it this way, it's only boring to build for a couple of hours but then you have a great model to enjoy in perpetuity.

That is how I am thinking now, and at least what was making me want the set real bad. The appearance of the set is the most important part for me. For example, that Death Star set looks like it would be crazy to build, but I am not crazy about how it looks.

However, the sexiest looking Star Wars set that is readily available is the Imperial Shuttle. Every picture I see just makes me drool more.

I enjoyed the Landspeeder, it's a nice little build for only 163 pieces. A couple of clever parts, wait until you figure out what the long bendy sticks are for!

I didn't build the "sentry droid" that came as part of the set though as that's CGI special edition bullshit. OG 4 LYF.

I found this for $10 at the local wal-mart. Big Truck with a Helicopter?? SOLD!

Nice find! I took a trip to the Lego store in Burlington, MA last night. It was crazy busy at 7:00pm but they had tons of sets and yes, seeing the SSD in person was cool. It's massive and really detailed.
I am also really impressed with the City and Creator sets. Slightly more affordable then licensed sets and the design feels like classic Lego I built as a kid.

50% off randomly at walmart? If only the nearby ones weren't a hassle to get to I'd go check them out.

I think the next set I get will be the current release Falcon if not a smaller set. The X-wing is cool but not high on my list of sets I want even though it's prolly my second favorite ship from Star Wars.

The Tie Fighter is cool but again doesn't do much for me as a Lego set, I love my Darth Vader Tie Interceptor though :D

My Tie Fighter and Droid Escape came yesterday from Amazon. We had company last night so I didn't have time for the Tie Fighter but I did build the droid escape. It's an okay build. The pod itself is kind of meh as it's primarily composed of 2 large non standard pieces. It also has 6 decals to put on it (yuck). The minifigs are great though (even though I already have an older C-3PO and R2-D2) as well as the Sandtrooper speeder bike. This will sit nicely next to my Landspeeder.

Hardcore - wow.

How much did it cost you to piece out the Cafe Corner via Bricklink?
not sure, but i'd never used bricklink before so ended up with a ton of duplicate orders. should have started on something simpler really. i did get a couple of rarer parts from lego pick a brick as prices were insane on bricklink (roof and some window frames)

I know the oft-derided, forbidden brand name that rhymes with Nega Clocks is not loved in this thread, but I wanted to again mention how much fun the Porsche GT3RS kit was to build. At 640-ish pieces it took a good amount of time and it sometimes felt like I was really building some kind of little, modular race car. The end result looks good, too. If you can get by the fact it's made by the evil competition it's totally worth doing if you're into cars.

Agreed, which is why the Imperial Shuttle was the only set that I wanted to buy. Both the SSD and Death Star don't look that impressive in real life when I saw them at the Lego store.

Pretty much done with sorting the pieces for my shuttle. Time to put on some good music and start building.

It's funny cause the one reason I'm not huge on technic cars is the lack of detail, which this thing covers nicely. If I could find it for a decent price it would be a cool kit to build I think.

Not crazy about stickers but it seems to be common on the licensed stuff. Please tell me the Shuttle is sticker free.

I tried to get replacement stickers for an old set of mine, but they were out of print. I think if I buy any more sets with stickers, I'll immediately order another set of stickers from lego while they're still active, and keep them safe with instructions in case I sell on, or just need to replace them after they curl and fall off

The little plaque for the shuttle is a big sticker. Any other stickers I dont remember but can be skipped. The SSD also has sticker for the bridge interior but you can just skip putting them on really. The plaque is only kinda nice sticker to apply

It is on the Lego website and Amazon. Don't think it is going OOP until near the end of the year.
Just a few more weeks until taxes come back. Please stay in print until then!

Ooops, I thought that was the smaller version that used to go for around $100. Forgot what the box looked like for the current one. Thought it was more in line with looking like a UCS box since it had the stats stand that goes with it.

How do you order more stickers?

How do you order more stickers?

ring up customer services and tell them you need a replacement part.

You can do it on the website (bottom of the homepage 'lost parts'), but stickers, instructions and sails etc aren't listed in the parts of sets so you need to call them up.

So where can the Imperial Shuttle be purchased from? I know Amazon was mentioned, unfortunately I'm in Canada and they don't ship there for items such as that(and Transformers as I've found in the past). Any other options besides just going on the main website?

He got to stay up a little later tonight.

After making Mator he'd been asking for McQueen for ages and being on sale, I couldn't refuse.

Ran round ASDA with the box, wouldn't let go till we got home and got him onto the 'building table'.

tried another walmart, holy shit there's like 5 around me, and still missed out on clearance. The lego aisle was empty as hell, with some random city and girly sets and one xwing. I would have picked that xwing up, but someone had literally chewed a hole in the front of the box to take what I assume was the minifigs.

oh well, walked out with a few bags of random minifigures from a previous series just to feel like I didn't waste the gas. I guess I'll just get the Queen Anne's Revenge for full price at the much cleaner Target.

I'm excited to have kids so I can have moments like this with them. A+

Picked up the X-Wing today. I was at Wal Mart and just looked to see what they had. This Wal Mart usually never has anything interesting because of it's size but low and behold they had the X-Wing. I'll build it this weekend.

Thanks I think I will do that to have some on hand.

Well, I got the X-Wing and the Tie-Fighter... Strange that the LEGO shop didn't have the Y-Wing, but I forgot to ask why.

The Tie-Fighter is indeed a bit boring to build, but it looks quite nice.
I had to build a little stand for the X-Wing, though, because the wings couldn't support it.

All in all, a much smaller haul then most of the others in here, but I had fun :)

you're giving me cold feet on the TIE fighter. Need some of you to post nice pics up to persuade me to get it. I could always put my VIP points towards the Dino rescue set that my daughter wants for her birthday I guess, but the TIE seems a great companion for the X-wing

Damn you thread! Ran into the lego store today and stood there for a good 15-20 minutes debating between modulars and tower bridge. Had the tower bridge on the register when the guy told me next month you get double VIP points during a few certain days. Decided I would get it then to get all those double points and have my tax return. So I put it back and got this:

Grabbed the Medieval Market Village from Amazon, since it is on sale for $90 (for 1600 pcs!) this week, and its remaining availability may be short-lived.

Holy shit 7 euro. where did you buy that?
off-topic What camera did you use?

Toys R Us Hamburg, Coolpix S4150 :)

It's a great cam for seeing lots of dust and ashes that isn't visible to the human eye! Proof:

Damn it, the next Toys R Us is in Essen.
I need a new camera cause all I have is a shitty cellphone camera so thank you for the info.

How good are Lego rubber bands? The X Wing has em, and I like fooling around with it, but I also wouldn't cry if I could make a profit off of it in a couple years, and think the rubber bands would probably be necessary for resale.

I had the Technic Destroyer Droid, which had lots of rubber bands. They all dry rotted and snapped within two years. Lame.

Yeah, that's my worry. I was hoping the technology might have gotten better since I was a kid.

The destroyer droid now stands with a sagging head and arms in my mother's house since the rubber bands broke. Now I am nervous about the x wing since I just found out it has rubber bands. Does the shuttle or SSd have them?

I got that set a few years back, I really like it, lots of fun pieces and builds.

I actually had a dodgy box though, it was missing 2 whole bags, but I had duplicates of others, I called Lego and they sent out the missing bags and I got to keep the extra ones.

Oh, its still badass, I highly recommend the X Wing. Really neat mechanics.

TBH I can't see you making a profit on the current x-wing. There have been lots (and using that same mechanic), so availability isn't an issue, and there isn't anything particular that makes this one collectable. Just enjoy it and if you sell it later you might not lose much on it at best.
