Mass Effect 3 Demo Impressions [Online Open To All]

Loved the demo. Almost felt like I shouldn't have been playing it, something I rarely feel when it comes to early tastes of things. Indicative of my level of hype for the actual game.

Are the servers ever going to be up? Is it going to be possible to try the MP?

The servers will be up on the 14th for Battlefield 3 LE owners and on the 17th for everyone else.

I really can't wait for the MP portion. I wish I bought BF3 now so I could get it early but now I will have to wait a week. Sucks.

It looks like it's based on luck. On my first try I followed the sequence and I got a Normandy avatar item, I tried with another facebook account afterwards and I tried doing an "X" sequence in a different order each time and got my demo code on the second try.

I did the "X" pattern and I got the demo as well, thanks for the heads up.

Got the demo code on the first try through Facebook: downloading now. If it helps I set my location to UK, since that was the default on the link I followed, even though I'm in the US. I did a Z pattern based on the light sequence I was shown before entering and only hit the nodes when they the light sequences in the meter were aligned although I'm not sure if that was necessary or not.

Dammit Shepard stop rolling!!!!!!

I want to take cover :(

Unfair! I freaking love this series and am super pumped for 3, but that doesn't mean I'm above poking fun at certain things that seem silly to me. And I happen to personally think a ton of the dialogue in the intro section is super cheesy hollywood action movie stuff. Doesn't mean I hate the game or Bioware.

Same. Here is my issue... The dialogue is a problem for me because it makes little sense considering what is actually happening. Like when Anderson tells you to "convince" the council for help..Really?! So the HUGE machines fucking up the entire world around you is not enough evidence..ESPECIALLY after you have told them the entire time that the fuckers were on their way.

Another thing I am worried about. The 2nd half has you saving a female Krogan. I am worried that it will go the same way as in ME2. "Complete this side mission so a certain race will join the war.." Weak. Like I said the fucking Reapers are already here fucking up everything.. Why would anyone need to be convinced to fight against them.

As far as the combat goes, I am starting to get used to it and enjoy it. I think the reason they forced the additional weapons on you was to show the difference in the cooldown times, which I was fine with.

I still think they should have brought back individual cooldowns instead of global. For example.. An adept can spam the hell out of singularity with just a pistol to the point of hilarity. I thought it was better when singularity would be used and shit would be floating around and then you used other powers. So by the time it ran out it was time to use it again. To me it makes no sense to have it available again for use with enemies still floating around in the air.

I still hate ammo clips.

Demo is better then I expected, combat feels much better then ME2, your guns now feel like they cause damage and the abilities feel a lot nicer to use.

Ran through it twice as shep and femshep.

Damn, that was a marvelous experience!!!

The facial animations were the only thing I have a problem with, as they seem pretty dead. But other than that, the demo hit all the right beats. Aspects that particularly stuck out to me was the music, the stellar and more powerful combat, and just the overall feel of the game itself. This game feels like a point that Bioware has always been wanting to reach since the beginning of the ME series, like this is what we've kinda all be waiting for. Everything just feels superbly tight.

Another note, I really enjoyed the sense of dread when the Reapers first arrived. The screen full of different perspectives from other countries etc as the Reapers were taking over, gave me a lot of War of the World vibes, and the overall feeling that there's no hope.

Really fantastic demo! I've only played the once but I'm gonna go through a couple more times today no doubt.

Oh Bioware, thank you so much for Narrative Difficulty.

I fell in love with this RPG named Mass Effect once, and imagine my dismay when I found out that its sequels were actually third-person shooters. I don't like third person shooters, I'm bad at them, but I suffered through the frustration because I still want to play all the Mass Effect I can play. ME2 was a forty-hour long Gears of War game - I get tired of playing Gears of War even in the six-to-eight hour format of an actual Gears of War - but I soldiered on. Now there's Narrative Difficulty, a notch below Casual that is so delightfully easy that I can go back to my old Mass Effect 1 strategy of traipsing through levels one-shotting everything with my shotgun. Unfortunately I can't just hold down the fire button the whole time like I did in that game but, hey, close enough.

I'm so excited for the full game now.

I tried to use one of my friend's gamertags who I know isn't interested in ME3 for a second code to give to another friend who struck out, but it didn't work.

Kagari is kicking out a ton of codes - hundreds of them, I think - on the @RPGSite twitter, so watch there if eager.

Yeah! Many thanks for the early access Demo!

Enjoyed the demo, feels like more of the same really which I'm okay with.

shooting and abilities feel even better to use. Can't wait to try the PC demo.

This is lame. They really should have included a workbench somewhere. Casters are carrying too many weapons. I would probably even dump the SMG and Pistol as a soldier. Abilities take too long to recharge.

I get the feeling full-game insanity is going to be a lot easier.

Thank you, was able to snatch a code at the site. :] There will be more later, so people should F5 from time to time.

Movement feels a bit clunky, snapping to cover is weird. I think i need to up my sensitivity. Also does Mass Effect have a quick turn?

Wellp, never mind. I got something right my first try but nothing ever came up. Kept clicking on the my codes section, and it just reset the app over and over, and now I'm apparently locked out.

Need two demo codes (one for me and one for a friend). Anybody willing to trade for some of my Collector’s Edition items (N7 Arsenal Pack, Alternate Outfit Pack, Digital Soundtrack, Normandy Prop)?

Gun sounds are rather weak... needs more oomph, otherwise sounds and sound desing is fine/good. Music is very nice.
Entering cover is a bit... slow, unresponsive but otherwise the controls are fine, though somewhat sensitive (problem only because my controller's sticks are "sticky").

Gotta play some more now...

I went through it. I have to say I enjoyed Sur'Kesh more but the opening did have an impact on me. The combat feels better. Definitely feels like you have more flexibility on how to approach a combat scenario but one thing that bothered me is that sometimes when I wanted to go into cover, I would roll out right into the open. Especially around the part with those engineers and their turrets. Fuck them.

I enjoyed the demo, hopefully there's a consistent quality throughout the game. Looking forward to it.

Also, the music throughout was immense. My fears for the soundtrack are now gone.

As someone who has taken all the achievements except Pinnacle Station, yet finds the games very overrated (yeah that doesn't make any sense, I know), I haven't been hyped for this at all. But now I've played the demo twice which I rarely ever do. The Kinect support makes this a very different game indeed. And a lot more enjoyable for me personally. Kinect purchase redeemed basically.

You can tell a lot was cut out (in the demo) from the Sur'Kesh segment. Randomly land on planet to be greeted by Salarians and all of a sudden we're protecting Eve.

The demo is really weird to me. I feel like the end of the world is surprisingly demure. No real epic music or anything? EPIC!!! Also the kid bit is retarded.

The art style feels more like 1. Everything else feels a lot like 2 to me.

1. Is there significantly more of a controller deadzone in the demo compared to ME2? I overshoot things constantly.

2. The face editor is hilarious. First, my ME2 import looks nothing alike. The hair colors and eye colors are great for Japanese anime characters too. Hah. No ME2 face codes seem to be applicable in ME3. All faces will need to be amended. Not sure why Bioware overhauled the whole thing. All ME2 needed was more options.

Oh man, this game is going to be fucking amazing. The ending of the first segment of the demo gave me goosebumps, specially when the music switches to that "menacing" sound. More than anything though, and just like ME2, the game is setting the tone that not everyone's going to survive, and people that you are attached to will have to die.

The second part of the demo reminded me of why I loved Mass Effect's combat. During the fight against the Atlas Mecha, Iplaned my fight, paused the game, chose my powers, moved Liara and Garrus around, flanked the enemy, and it was immensely satisfying.

This could end up being the best ME game, and if that happens, it will also be one of my top games of all time.

I am really conflicted on if I should play this or not. I have not watched any of the trailers since last E3, I know I am going to love the game no matter what, so I dont really want to spoil it. On the other hand, I dont think I can resist....

How long is the demo?
