Mass Effect 3 Demo Impressions [Online Open To All]

This is lame. They really should have included a workbench somewhere. Casters are carrying too many weapons. I would probably even dump the SMG and Pistol as a soldier. Abilities take too long to recharge.

I get the feeling full-game insanity is going to be a lot easier.

Agreed, loved charging all the Batarian husk things like a mad man during the start of the demo, but a vanguard is rather gimped with the super long cooldown in the Sur'kesh part of the demo. Not sure I want to try playing as an adept in the demo due to this.

You can tell a lot was cut out (in the demo) from the Sur'Kesh segment. Randomly land on planet to be greeted by Salarians and all of a sudden we're protecting Eve.

Yeah, the leaked demo included
more talking with Wrex, meeting Kirrahe where he says he would support you whatever the politicians decided and meeting up with Mordin.
Shame we didn't get to see any of that, but perhaps they wanted as little information regarding what was going on as possible in the released demo.

good god the blindfire in this game is accurate as hell

and yeah, not letting us change our weapons makes caster classes so unfun in the second part :(

Looking for any excuse to hate BioWare, I see!

Well, it's like, you see only a few real civilians in the entire FUTURECITY. You'd figure there would be a ton of people since millions are dying or something. But you only see like one kid in a piece that's so obviously manipulative and...dumb. I dunno.

The game is fine itself. But I would figure you'd see more people.

2. The face editor is hilarious. First, my ME2 import looks nothing alike. The hair colors and eye colors are great for Japanese anime chars tees too. Hah. No ME2 face codes seem to be applicable in ME3. All faces will need to be amended. Not sure why Bioware overhauled the whole thing. All ME2 needed was more options.

Yeah, I actually went back and booted up ME2 again cuz I figured I must have copied down my character code wrong. Nope!

Demo is downloading now, 25%...

I am really conflicted on if I should play this or not. I have not watched any of the trailers since last E3, I know I am going to love the game no matter what, so I dont really want to spoil it. On the other hand, I dont think I can resist....

How long is the demo?

Demo is about 35-45 minutes long (mainly because of cutscenes)

I did enjoy the way in which he was incorporated into the opening shots. I couldn't even tell the vehicle was a toy until the camera pulled back. Had me completely fooled.

Just nabbed a demo code and a normandy code from the Facebook App. The demo's downloading now! looking forward to seeing if I'm going to buy this game or not!

Can you get multiple demo codes from the Facebook thing or can you only win each code once?

Well I won something but fuck knows what as it went straight back to the initial Facebook screen! How do I find out what I've won? Does it send a code via Xbox live? Confused :/

Edit: Ignore this post. I am blind!

Really impressed with the Kinect features! Makes my Kinect almost worth it.

They didn't seem to work here. Might be turned of because of the fact English is not a main language here. We still don't have dashboard voice controls for the same reasons. If that's the case though that really sucks. This would have been one of the first things I'd have used my Kinect for.

The best way to get an understanding on Adept is just to concentrate on Liara. She only carries two weapons. When specced for recharge rate she can cast incredibly fast.

I played through the first section of the demo, but I don't want to go too much further for fear of spoilers. Overall it plays really well and the combat feels good. I will put some time into the multiplayer side of the demo, but save any other single player for the full game.

Graphics looks nice, except for the water which is OMG bad up close.

Is anyone else unable to connect to the Alliance Network or whatever it's called (the thing you need to sign in to with an EA account)? Can't play multiplayer without it...

ME3 servers aren't up yet. Won't be up 'til the 14th, and only those that have redeemed BF3's online pass will be able to take advantage of it until the 17th.

In the earth part when you're following Anderson, look down at the people running away far below you. They're running backwards.

You're not wrong, there was alot more in the leaked beta I played last year. Pretty much the entire level.

Here is a pretty good playthrough of Sur'Kesh on Insanity with a Sentinal. Very methodical, great tactics on both side. I love the use of smoke grenades by the Cerberus agents to cover their tracks and screw the player over, as well as their flanking tactics. Their health and shields/armor bonuses also dont seem too outrageous which was often the case in ME2 where everyone had max health, armor and shields.

Part 2

Femshep sounds less bored in ME3. I think the VO in general is a step up.

I liked the distant withdrawn tone of Jennifer Hale in ME2. I played the demo and wondered if it even was Hale this time around. She's a little too lively for the type of FemShepard I like to play as.

I really hate the Gears of War thing where you can't jump over a wall without taking cover behind it first. It's dumb in Gears, but unforgivable in other games; if you're just going to clone another developer's control scheme at least have the decency not to copy the bad stuff. What makes it even worse is that Anderson and all your other squad mates clearly can just jump over stuff. They'll do it right in front of you, and you can never make Shepard do the same.

I won the very first time but I got the Avatar code :(. Now i've tried twice since and it just wasn't meant for me to get a dang demo code before tuesday. Oh well.

One addition I don't like to the gameplay is the grenades. They force you to get out of cover and get back in, and with taking cover being so difficult, it's really annoying.

Edit: Also, I don't like how your screen gets shrouded in red when injured. I know when I'm being shot at and taking damage, thank you.

Argh, I've been doing this mess all day, nothing has worked.

The flash game doesnt load up on a freshly installed windows 7 box with IE9.

GAF, have mercy!

That's the best thing about the Vanguard, they gave them a new and useful power rather than another random grenade type like all the other classes got.

Only things it's missing from Gears is the blind fire, otherwise I quickly adapted to the new controls and quicker pace. Just so you all know: quickly double tap A to jump over obstacle without going into cover first.

heh, i was wondering whether to post it or not. As a Sentinel, the demo on insanity is not that difficult if you keep your distance and take advantage of biotic combinations to create explosions. The last part was a bit tricky if you don't move fast, the pod barrier that carries the female krogan goes down quickly if you don't make some fast kills. Those lift grenades come in handy. And that last mech, it sure eats a lot of bullets. Took me a few minutes to take it down.

But seriously, it was a pretty great demo. Definitely made me want the game even more now.

The only problem I was having though was how close the camera was to you during combat. I don't remember it being like that in ME-ME2. It kind of makes it hard to look around at all the sweet stuff going on in the surroundings.

That said, the opening of the demo was quite good I thought. They pulled off the Reaper invasion pretty handily.

Very excited now, as opposed to just the regular level of excited.

EDIT:

And dat music...

Confused, does the demo not allow for you to use your ME2 save?

Edit: Bah I guess you can't. Bummer. Oh well.
