So as far as the trophies go, do they actually count towards your current trophy level or what? I got a few, then synched trophies on the Vita, and they don't seem to be reflecting on my account on the PS3.

So interesting questions: If you have PSN hooked up to FB on your ps3 and you earn a trophy on the vita but then synch it through the ps3 does the notification happen?

Finally saw a Vita ad on TV, it was the Best Buy/Vita add where the employee describes all the features of the Vita to the excited customer.

It kinda sucked, but at least they covered some ground on what it is/does.

What`s up? Amazon changed the Ridge Racer release date to June 30????

Edited: Gamestop now lists it also for March 20th... Was it delayed????

Also, do we know for sure that the Vita screen is plastic? (debating if I should get a screen protector) Because I just got my FEB and its manual says the screen is glass.

It is definitely plastic. Definitely.

Isn't Gorilla Glass supposed to be very strong?

GG is not the magical material that some people think it is. It's just glass that is hard to scratch. Glass is still a material that doesn't do flexing. If you tap a little hammer on the corner of a Gorilla Glass screen it;ll shatter just like any other glass screen. A plastic one will not. A plastic screened device will possibly scratch more easily than a Gorilla Glass one will, but if you drop it onto concrete the plastic will not break as it can flex. Glass can't, so it shatters.

Yes. I don't know of any tests that have been conducted to compare the two when it comes to strength.
But keep in mind Gorilla Glass exists because glass is required for LCD screens. This is not the case for OLED.

Why some OLED devices use a gorilla glass variant I can't say.

I don't know. LCD is just defined by using glass. It is the required substrate for the technology.
No idea about the actual physical properties of why that is so, only that it is true for LCD and plasmas.
It's the reason people were so excited for OLED 5-8 years ago because you don't need the rigid substrate any more.

For more info check out this article, or just regular wikipedia.

An overview of the advantages and disadvantages of OLED:
http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/oled5.htm

Glass screens are not required for LCD at all. Gorilla Glass exists because there is demand for screens on touch devices that will be more resistant to scratches. Before Gorilla Glass LCD screens either used a different glass or plastic. GG also has very good optical properties which means it doesn't distort the image or lose any detail/brightness.

Sony's decision was probably made on budgetary constraints. They already said they wanted to hit $250 and putting GG on would have cost more than whatever plastic they used. You might have paid the extra $10, and maybe I would too. But getting in at $250 was important to them un kind of understandably so.

You're completely right. It's also what I said in a later post in response to the Samsung P2. (Plastic screen, glass substrate.)
When I was talking about glass being required I was talking about the actual substrate in use.

My first post as it stands is wrong and therefor misleading. Glass is required, but on a completely different layer.
I don't even know why I posted it the way I did, many here pushing their finger on the monitor in front of them can immediately see that it's wrong.

No matter how you slice it neither choice is optimal. It should just be possible to aim well, without the tricks.
So a superior control scheme is a trick now? Tell that to Mouse or Motion control users - everyone should use Sticks because anything else is just tricks.

And even i am moderately surprised
Don't get your hopes up. This may be a rumor, but according to this, Vita developers are jumping ship and are heading for 3DS.

Oh it's -Developers- now?

I want to see how far this goes! It's Japanese Whispers!

give it a few days and we'll be at

"Iwata has confirmed from his secret moon base that Elvis has told him that Vita development gives you cancer so everyone has left because the 3DS makes you youthful if you sit near the dev kits!" ... MAY be a rumour. Sony didn't completely deny it so = true.

Interesting that Gravity Daze trophies are in English. I wonder if this is the same on JPN PSN accounts.

Ah, never mind. It just detects the game as Gravity Rush. Looks like the trophies are all translated? New to me.

You messed up big time, my friend.

Is it like, Wario64 big time? Because anything less I don't want it.

it'll be a slow burn, but i don't think it's anyway near doomed.

Machine is fantastic as well.

Or will its light burn blindingly bright, but brief? Perhaps it'll have its long life, like its older brother.

I'm loving the device, even though I was shocked to see certain downsides to the OLED screen that I hadn't been privy to before (I'm knew to OLED).

I was wondering how Gamefly was gong to store Vita games since they are so small, but I guess they didn't put as much thought into it as I did.

Hey GAF,

For those who purchased the Official Sony Dual Pack Screen Protector, does anyone have the dimensions for the rear touch pad? After thinking, I don't think it's worth the extra cash to purchase a full body protector until the Vita becomes mainstream. So, I plan on cutting the 2nd extra screen protector for the rear touch pad because I will be using a full body silicon case by Hori.

Thanks!

Was reading concerns on here about the analog stick responsiveness or lack thereof in games like Uncharted, and my two cents is that the game was programmed in such a way on purpose to emphasize use of the gyroscope.

Uncharted 3 had similar dead zone, acceleration issues when aiming, and that was using the standard DS3. I have full confidence that the analog on the PSV is capable of precision inputs, and hopefully Unit 13 and other shooters better demonstrate this.

Fair play. In the time it took me to check a few things and write my reply you wrote your earlier post and I therefore didn't see it.

I thought it was odd!

It doesn't help that a lot of folk think GG is some miracle material when it's really just very very hard and so doesn't scratch easily. That comes at a cost if you bounce it which is where plastic has its main advantage. Having dropped my DHD the other day from about 4ft I'm quite pleased I have plastic!

That is brilliant.

My eyes are fucking BLEEDING from playing Lumines for nearly an hour. The visuals and this OLED screen just melts my eyes. My favorite game this launch.

Now, this could be nothing, but my Zune HD used to do that same splotchy pattern on pitch black screens in pitch black rooms, but for some reason it no longer does that, and hasn't for a long time. Could just be a fluke, but who knows.

There's probably a break-in period for the screen, I'm guessing?

Are you saying the patterns will recede or dissipate with continued use of the screens?

In any case, it initially bummed me out, since I do a lot of gaming at night, in the dark. Now I just have to turn on a low light. After reading about it and asking about it on gaf yesterday, it's a Not a big deal anymore, something I'll just have to accept about oled tech.

Any FEBs use the remote play feature w the ps3 yet? Can it even be done yet? Anyone know if i can remote play from someone elses house/wifi? Being able to play an rpg while in a break at school would be amazing

I'm guessing this is only through the Vita...? I was searching on the PS3.

Sorry for the late reply. But I used the PS3. Went to search in PSN store and typed VITA. And bunch of them showed up. You have to browse down to see them all. First few were just random stuff.

This was in US PSN.

Can I transfer my DD copies of God of war PSP/LBP/GT to Vita?

Yes, assuming they're all on one account, and that's the account you want to use on your Vita.

Though you may need your PS3 to copy them over since Vita's PSN Store has limited PSP titles right now.

Right now it only works with a handful of mostly older games and the ps1 library. I haven't tried it over the Internet but on my home network ps1 games played great. If you wanted to play some old ps1 jrpgs even a little lag would be ok since they are turn based.

Dear GAF,

Help me pick one game to go with my 3g/wifi vita:
- BlazBlue
- UMVC3
- Hot Shots Golf
- FIFA

So hard >< I'm leaning towards BlazBlue but I'm worried about the learning curve but I do see possible long replay value to keep me entertained until Gravity Rush. HELP!
