10km isn't near at all. That's kind of a lot in a small country as Denmark isn't it. That's like a 45 minute trip with the bus.

I think it searches up to 10km. If you find others sooner it wont search further... just my understanding.

Yes. That is indeed the case. My radius is 3 miles.

If you look at Near closely, you'll find that it is a gamer community app, not a pure location-based app. i.e., More like FaceBook than Google Maps.

Besides stats/votes/opinions of people near you, you also see input from your friends list, plus strangers whom you have played against.

The name "Near" applies both to common gaming interests, as well as the geographical distance. It's a friend, game and item discovery tool.

EDIT:
If you're keen to find people close to you physically, you can look at the "People encountered" stats. It flags out people who "passed by" you in Near.

I wasn't going to get a Vita but took the plunge and ordered the WiFi model after seeing Hot Shots Golf screenshots.

Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
Rayman Origins

Thinking about adding a third game but I don't know if I can justify spending $40 on Lumines.

hopefully u live in the us, if yes, then you can probably get lumines for free after you buy the other two.

Do we know if PS1/2 functionality is coming down the line? That'd push this over the top. I might have to get rid of my jailbroken PSP if so.

Insane For Sony
- not as solid feeling as it looks in screen shots. Everything feels cheap and that includes the thumb sticks.
Sticks are great, and feel great. You may have experienced a busted unit due to typical EB store demo unit abuse. I also think the unit itself feels as good as anything made of plastic can. I really appreciate that it's lightweight, and don't care if that makes it feel cheap for anyone - if it was any heavier it would be nothing but detrimental.

Are there any new GAF opinions on Escape Plan?
I purchased it and have no more space on the 4GB card to download it, heh. I maxed that card in literally one day with Lumines, Stardust, Rayman, UC:GA demo, Ultimate GnG, some videos and music.

PS1 functionality is coming but as of right now PS2 functionality isn't. I wouldn't bet against PS2 functionality getting added though.

The materials and build used on Vita are better than on any PSP so far, including the original 1000. It's just lighter.

You mean... plastic.... lol. Jokes aside I thought the PSV was built nicely. Loved the metal frame around the perimeter, was it metal?

I wish I could afford a unit right now.

i transferred GT from ps3 and it works fine (uk). is pixeljunk a mini game?

no it's full blown Pixel Junk Monsters and even has a new island. i think it was PSN only when it first released but it's also on UMD. i have it on my PSP right now and just want to make sure i can transfer it to my vita when i get it. so far i haven't heard any 100% confirmation from any FEB owners that have tried.

Near sounds nice actually.

Yes, its biggest problem is the potentially confusing UI, and poor messaging/explanation. I didn't know what Near was until I toyed with it for days.

To be fair, it clamps a lot of info into a 5 inch screen; but it may be better to spread out the goodies. And then add even more depth to the existing feature set. I like it quite a bit.

Hope Sony and developers push it aggressively.

A Near-integrated WebKit, Google Maps, Music and Video players, Twitter, etc. may make things even more interesting, subjected to clear privacy rules.

The vita I played at Gamestop felt very lightweight but the one I bought feels very solid.

The anti-theft mount kinda restricts the way we hold Vita, and also affects the feel.

I put my launch period imported PSP and Vita side-by-side, they are pretty similar in build quality (with Vita edging out). The newer PSPs feel and are much more cheaper.

After I add a grip battery pack to my Vita, I think it will weigh as much as, if not more than, my launch period PSP. ^_^

Ok so I played one at eb today.

First the pros

+ the image is really nice. I like how it looks like it is right on top of the screen and not like you are looking through a layer of plastic then the screen.

+ screen looks bigger than I thought it would.

+ the resolution fits the screen perfectly it looks like if a home console ran everything in 1080p

Now the cons

- not as solid feeling as it looks in screen shots. Everything feels cheap and that includes the thumb sticks.

- what the hell is up with the load times?! Everything took forever to load!. Wipe out was the worst around a minute or so to load a track.
I think this is the one that will disappoint me most if true.

Can someone test this for me? I want to see if it's a unique problem. If I play Wipeout, Hot Shots Golf won't work until I reset the Vita. It won't recognize the HSG card, but it will recognize any other game. Weird.

I wouldn't be to worried, most people are saying it feels anything but cheap. It feels far more solid and high quality then my phat PSP, and by that comparison it is much better then the psp slims. Like another poster said the demo units are mounted oddly and that can affect how you hold it and how it feels.

The only cheap thing about the Vita is the smelly cheap case >:/

The unit itself I absolutely love. It has the perfect feel, the perfect weight, all the buttons feel fantastic although the port covers themselves are kinda cheap.

Most would comment that it feels unexpectedly light. The dual sticks are also small and sensitive (May be too sensitive for some). But build quality should not be an issue at all.

If it felt cheap, I wouldn't bother with another screen protector for the back touch pad myself. 8^)

There's not much of anything that feels cheap about the Vita. There's some bad design decisions:

1 - game/mem doors are lame
2 - if you have big hands, it's incredibly cumbersome to hold in a way that will stop you from accidentally hitting the back-touch.
3 - left analog stick is far too close to the d-pad.

It should be ok to lay your hands on the back touch for dual stick gaming. Games that take advantage of back touch (e.g., Escape Plan) should handle false positives well. They will essentially design the levels and gestures to avoid confusion and easy mistakes.

Prepare to be shocked. On March 7th Apple will be unveiling iPad 3. It will have 4GLTE, a retina screen, and a much faster processor + better battery, all in a package just slightly bigger than iPad 2.

I actually don't know if that is sarcasm, because that wouldn't be shocking at all. Improved screen, processor, and battery. That is exactly the same upgrades as before. And 4g has been done by other tablet makers for over a year.

Your thumbs should be on the sticks or the buttons, and the rest of the hands supporting the unit.
The speakers should have enough clearance to deliver its sound. It won't be muffled at all.

This was my experience exactly. The only feeling I could get from the Gamestop unit I played was "light". It didn't necessarily feel solid or anything. But man, when I got one, it feels amazing. Better than any device made with plastic I've ever used. It feels premium.

I have both pixeljunk monsters and pixeljunk monsters deluxe in my downloads list. When I download them, neither shows up as transferrable to vita

neither does patapon 3 which is frustrating. And the 3 games i got as compensation for pspgo price cut aren't downloadable from PS3 so i can't test patapon 1. If anyone can confirm it works then I'll buy it again

1) Great for keeping out dust and dirt, etc. I like them.
2) Holding it wrong if you have your hands sprawled out on the back.
3) Maybe if you're using the stick like a stupid concave design 3DS/360 stick. Doing it properly, you don't hit anything.

Screen wasn't improved before. With this one, it'll be a dramatic improvement.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Gamestop seems to have broken the street date for Shinobido 2. I don't know if it's just the store near me making a mistake, but I got a copy.

Speaking of 3G, i remember someone posting about these 3G sim cards you could get:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-THREE-3G-3-Mobile-Broadband-SIM-Card-3GB-X-6-18GB-Data-6-months-/250963293608?pt=UK_Mobile_Home_Phones_Sim_Cards_CV&hash=item3a6e93f5a8#ht_2051wt_1159

Now does anyone know how reliable they are as it seems to be a fantastic deal compared to the high street deals?

If they are i plan to top up the Vodafone sim and get Wipeout for free, then once that finishes get one of these and be sorted for 6 months at 3GB per month cap.
This is basically what I'm doing. I can vouch for the seller (received the day after purchase) but won't be able to vouch for the service until I use it obviously. It's basically Three though, so it should be fine.

if you get a request from KlawUK, and you happen to already have mrklaw, you can swap them out if you need space - I'm going to slowly switch to my UK account. Starting from scratch with trophies is painful
At least you'll get that feeling of progression that you get on the lower levels, it's painful once you hit the higher levels!
