Nintendo Downloads - February 2012

Still disappointed DK '94 doesn't at least support its SGB border if nothing else. I know some say that enters the realms of SNES emulation, but for me that is how I always experienced the game.

They might add in that functionality in an update if you are a very good boy and eat all your greens!

Actually, it's less tower defense, and more like Monster Hunter-esq resource gathering infused with the idea of tower defense.

I have never played a tower defence game; it sounded far too stressful for my liking! I enjoyed the resource gathering in Tri though so perhaps I would enjoy this? From the video on the eShop it didn't appear to be fast paced at all; more a question of gathering the necessary resources which would then do the defending for you. Is that a good representation of what the gameplay is like? If so then I think it's my sort of game. I have always imagined tower defence games to be fast paced, having to make really quick decisions to repel waves of enemies; which doesn't sound fun to me.

I posted a swapnote to this effect to people on my friends list but everyone who has Super Mario 3D Land should check out the new videos in the Nintendo Direct section... If you think you're good at this game, watch those and tell me if you still feel as good:

so many things I didn't know you could do

- umpteen ways to get infinite or multiple one ups
- quirky 1-ups: playing koopa shell keepy up with tanooki mario's tail gets you a one up, kicking a rock into a warp pipe does the same
- there is a warp zone I hadn't bothered to find and didn't know about
- incredibly fast speed-runs showing off some really nice short-cuts
- you can kill Thwomps and those flame-thrower things on the airships

There's even a
UFO sighting
you can experience, that I didn't know about.

There are probably other things I'm forgetting. It really made me want to pop in the game and try some of the tricks out.

That is precisely why I haven't watched any of them! :)

Remember that Gnomz game for Wiiware which cost 1000 points and basically consisted of a single screen with you trying to jump on your opponent's head more than he jumped on yours? (What? You don't?) Well now it's back - In appropriately priced side-scroller form! It's also a good thing that DSiware is getting another Sokoban clone, since there's hardly enough of those to go around.

What demos have been suggested, announced, or released in other countries? Is there a good list of these on a third party site I'm not aware of?

I'm mainly asking for a Kid Icarus Uprising demo, but I want to see others.

See, that's what I thought, but Nintendo are such sticklers for authenticity that I didn't think they'd let 'em get away with that. I hope you're right, though.

The sprite limits are actually glitches/defects and are one of the few things they might be lenient about, since no game actually relies on it.

Also, the N64 VC games run at twice the original resolution and have less slow downs, so Nintendo isn't averse to improving things where they make sense.

Okay I got a $20 3DS card here and I kinda forgot to make a list of actual good eShop games. I'm gonna be on a road trip in a couple days too.

Already Own:
Tetris Party
Dr. Mario Express
Aura-Aura Climber
X-Scape
Xevious 3D

Thinking About:
Pushmo
Mighty Switch Force
Fortified Zone (personal nostalgia)

Also, is it worth it to own the Virtual Console Game Boy games if you still own most of the really important games on Game Boy? How good do they look?

Points aren't going to buy you much on the 3DS eShop.

There is a distinct lack of Mutant Mudds recommendations in here!

With a $20 eShop card, I'd definitely pick up Mutant Mudds for sure. Then either Pushmo, Freakyforms: Your Creations Alive!, Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, Dillon's Rolling Western, VVVVVV, or Mighty Switch Force. You can't really go wrong with any of those. And you might have enough left over for a Virtual Console game or a cheap DSiWare game!

How long does Pushmo last content-wise BTW? I've been curious about it after all the good word of mouth, but haven't bothered looking into it as I haven't had the money to spend anyway.

Technically infinite, since you can download unlimited levels.

I've played 22 hours of Pushmo (most of which was spent in the levels that were originally included) and I still have 30 or so puzzles left. I did spend some time going back and replaying earlier levels, though.

There is? Never knew that. I've done the endings
1 to 6 moneysacks
in my youth

Can you spoiler tag me the ending?

Right. I just completed my second playthrough of the week, this time WITHOUT dying once. I also got max moneybags.

I got the usual moon ending, and the credits roll as normal. After the credits, when Wario is just pacing backwards and forwards in front of his moon, a banner comes up saying "Perfect Game". Upon resetting the game, the file I had just completed (pipe C) now spins and flashes. It's actually a cool effect, and something I've never seen before in all my days of playing this as a kid. Not so much a "new ending" though.

Sparkly stars before NSMB!

Why has Sakura Samurai not been released in Europe yet? It's not on their release schedule either.

I hope it's not due to UK's stupid anti-ninja censorship law.

I'll trade NA's Sakurai Samurai for EU's Wario Land :)

Ditto.

Trust me, you're not missing anything with Sakura Samurai. I'm sorry I bought it. That money could have gone toward Mudds or Dillon's. I was taken in by the whole Nippon thing, but the game is pretty boring. This is coming from a guy who loves the Samurai/Dynasty Warriors games. I don't mind repetition if it's basically mindless fun, but this isn't mindless or fun. ;)

NICE! I'll do it myself! :D

It seems like this is the Japanese Wii VC lineup for March:

Double Dragon II: Revenge- Famicon
Soccer Brawl- Neo Geo
The Last Blade (Romance of the Bakumatsu: The Swordman of Moonlight)- Neo Geo
Renegade (Hot-Blooded Tough Guy Kunio)- Arcade

I don't know. Sakura seems to have gotten much better reviews than Dillon. Maybe I'd still like it...And I love the art style.

Yeah, I definitely dig the art style too. It's kind of a mix of Wind Waker and Captain Rainbow set in Nippon. And yeah, you could very well enjoy the game. It's not a bad game by any means, but I found it to be boring. I forced myself to play it for a while, but eventually I couldn't justify pushing myself any further.

Dillon's actually looks like it has a lot more going on in terms of gameplay. Seems I wasn't wrong in thinking it's a bit like Lock's Quest, being a TD game with multiple phases. However, it looks like you have RPG-esque battles that take place during the TD phase as well. The controls look fun.

For $7-8 (whatever SS was, I can't remember offhand), it's no big loss if you just want to try it, but it would be nice to have demos for these games.

Yes, then I beat the first set of Bonus Pushmo and a few more from the second set.
Oh, I was trying to avoid spoilers ;P

I was surprised by the number of Bonus Pushmo. The game might actually have too much content. I wish I'd played more downloaded pushmos instead of wasting precious time and attention on the boring concept ones, which don't teach you concepts any better than real pictures do.

I think you're misinterpreting this... what you're describing is the ending/result of beating the game with all of the treasures and the maximum amount of cash. I've gotten exactly the same results even with multiple deaths.

Aw fuck. Google fail. Apparently there is no extra ending for completing it without dying. I can't even find reference to where I found that now! I must have been drunk. And I honestly don't remember the
flashing pipe and "Perfect Game" notification
from when I was a kid. Oh well. The game is fucking awesome. I'm pleased I played through it twice!

So when did the eshop get upgraded to keep your credit card info? I will def spend a lot more money now.

A little while ago. A bit of anecdotal experience for you though: Every time I've tried to use the saved card info, I've had an error message, and had to re-enter my card details anyway to get a result.
