That was one hell of a crash.

After you've watched videos of accidents aftermaths, though, the accidents themselves stop being shocking.

You can watch it fine.

The impact is just crazy but nothing that will cause nightmares because you are far removed from the situation.

I dunno man, it shows how crazy things can change when you're driving... there's that lingering though that it COULD happen to you.

If anything it'll reinforce many peoples (safe) driving habits here.

Everyone should watch this, I'm sure the suv driver got distracted for a second like someone mentioned.

You got to be 100% alert while driving.

Yup. There's a reason why they show videos of fatal accidents at driving schools.

You gotta be aware of what "COULD happen to you" to drive properly and safely.

What are you talking about dude. People can react to something in a different manner than you do.

Awful accident.

Folks need to travel slower in winter conditions though, it's too much of a risk driving fast and trying to control a vehicle when the road is like that.

Wow, that truck just vanished.

I hate driving on rural roads in Upstate NY or in PA where there's no divider between you and the 40 ton 18 wheeler going 60mph. I always wondered what would happen if one hit my car head on, now I know.

I'm use to driving with a barrier. When I drive to PA it really makes me nervous and I just stay in the slow lane. I'm not use to that shit. Especially at night and traffic is flying up/down a mountain.

It has been awhile since a video made me say "Holy shit" out loud. Wow...just wow.

I've seen this question come up a lot and I have to ask if a lot of you have just never driven on rural highways in America. Tons and tons of 55mph+ roads out in the country will be without a divider of any sort, even with four or more lanes of traffic.

I remember one video where a bank robber was being chased by the cops and he just decided to cut across the grass divider and hit a innocent driver head on, killing both I think.

On country roads here, we don't have dividers on single carriage roads even though the speed limit can be up to 60MPH for cars (40MPH for large trucks). The roads here though are much narrower and twistier which I think helps keep concentration levels higher.

When you mix long, straight, multiple lane roads, 50+MPH limits and no divider, a small driver error or distraction/complacency and it can end badly.

RIP the people in the Navara though.........totally unsurvivable, bar a miracle.

The same thing almost happened to this guy, but he was incredibly lucky (funny how both the car and the truck had cameras): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okvtSmOY-tQ

Also, how lucky was the guy fixing the Lada: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rl6qn8lQek#t=1m25s

I wonder what happend to these two people that got hit by a truck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iJ5N42wk2k#t=1m20s

And why cameras you wonder, well because of the staged stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEysJ2gLq7g
As soon as they found out that the whole thing was filmed they left the scene.

There is no better evidence then video evidence.

Fuck. I don't know what I was expecting, but I sure didn't expect THAT.

Closest I've seen to that is some guy in an SUV who lost control on a highway when I was my way to college in the Okanagan in the winter and started weaving back and forth in the left lane as I was in the oncoming left lane. Thankfully he didn't clip me, but no more than a few seconds after he passed me he crossed the center line and similar to that video, was immediately smashed in the side by an oncoming truck as I watched in the rear view mirror.

I feel a bit bad about not stopping, but the conditions that day were absolute shit, my heart was racing like a motherfucker from almost being hit myself and there probably wasn't anything I could have done anyway as I saw later on the news that both drivers (and passengers in the SUV) were all killed. I guess not surprising as the idiot in the SUV looked like he was going at least 120km/h on an incredibly icy highway.

His SUV didn't explode like that one, of course. Christ.

This is why I seldom if ever try to overtake someone ahead of me. It's like every goddamn accident is a result of that.

Even with the warning in the OP, I didn't expect anything like that and literally exclaimed out loud at the result of the impact.

I learned to drive in Iowa, and early in my driving years had a similar sliding incident, where I clipped the slush and snow in the center and nearly spun out in similar fashion; I recovered and traffic was light, avoiding an accident. Ever since then, in conditions like that, when there is accumulated snow and slush in the center of the highway, I absolutely always drive on the right lane to keep away from it. I'd much rather slide off the road than into traffic.

Also, I read through the thread wondering why HephalumpsAndWoozles got banned. Until I saw a certain two word parenthetical. I still can't believe people do (or think) that.

Odds are if they guy behind them was filming it the SUV driver was already causing issues driving poorly/too fast for the road conditions. Hard to feel bad for the SUV driver when it was their own poor decision making that put everyone else in danger. Hop the truck driver+ the driver in the vehicle near it are ok though.

Uhm I recently had a convo with someone from russia because we saw tons of insanely close crashes on (ice) roads. I asked why there were so many people "lucky" to record those videos and I was told its popular and constantly becoming more popular in russia. Apparently tons of accidents happening.

I don't think they were still alive after that, RIP :(

The SUV looked like that game where you try to get all the pieces in before the time runs out... and then it pops. Here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cafLl1Ulsco

Given some of the other posts in this thread, I don't see a problem with sharing these...

Edit: please forgive me if I offend you with these GIFs, but I think valuable lessons can be learned from this tragedy.

Man that guy in the smaller transport truck is so lucky.

Edit: or the car that almost hit him, to be more precise

I hope the car behind the oncoming truck made it out OK ... he barely misses the swerving smaller truck but then it looks like it might end up skidding beneath the frontal-crash-truck :/
