I wonder who that big boss guy is. He looks.... big!

Considering Obaba was around before that boss, I believe she was an inspiration for the GOW boss.
Large bosses are nothing new and the character design is irrelevant. NG3 has been channeling many aspects of the GoW series and this is just another easy reference.

What reference is NG3 using from GOW series besides QTE which we know existed way before GOW series.

Giant bosses were around before GOW
QTE was around before GOW.

I see nothing that NG3 is referencing that was around before GOW.

Dude what is with your avatar??? Why would you want something like DMC2 to return???
I love DMC2

  • Every screenshot shown above has an equivalent to the Cronos fight.
  • The dark conflicted story is similar in tone to Kratos's super angst.
  • There was a recent boss fight video that contained some of the "take out the weak points" gameplay instead of NG's more upfront battles. To be fair though, I saw more R&C in that then GoW.
  • The camera zooms and bone crunching emphases are right up there with GoW brutality.
  • Vertical climbing is exactly like Kratos does instead of the wall jumping of old.
  • There are many mid-boss destroy animations very similar to what Kratos does in his sequence boss fights.
  • Bow now has intuitive lock-on similar to GoW for accessibility
  • Enemies cower in fear much like what Kratos's character type instills often. Same with NPC dialogue towards Ryu.
  • Set piece QTE when moving through zones
  • Combat QTE

Shocking news: NG3 will continue with the shitty side characters trend.

these are co-op mode shots,we don't know yet if the girls will be in the main game

also, ayane and momiji were perfectly playable in sigma 2,you should check out some double ayane or momiji videos on youtube

Looks more like she has them in a ball and is just looking at them. No one has seen any videos so you can't really say they are fighting her. But even then, there were giant bosses long before GOW even back in the Genesis / SNES days.

The dark conflicted story is similar in tone to Kratos's super angst.

I don't see any angst tone there. I don't hear Ryu screaming for no reason.

But Ninja Gaiden already did that thou. Did you forget the Bone Dragon fight in the first game? Take out hsi feet so he can switch it?

The camera zooms and bone crunching emphases are right up there with GoW brutality.

Games did that before GOW thou

Vertical climbing is exactly like Kratos does instead of the wall jumping of old.

Games did that before GOW thou. I'm sure if I can be bothered, I can find games back in the PSOne/Saturn era that did that.

There are many mid-boss destroy animations very similar to what Kratos does in his sequence boss fights.

Not sure exactly what you are talking about here so I can't argue the case here.

Bow now has intuitive lock-on similar to GoW for accessibility

Bow always had lock in if you didn't go into 1st person mode.

Enemies cower in fear much like what Kratos's character type instills often. Same with NPC dialogue towards Ryu.

Give you this one.

Set piece QTE when moving through zones

Done before GOW.

Combat QTE

Done before GOW.

Doesn't matter if you fight her. But you probably do.

Dark story, not angst. That's just how to describe Kratos. Previous NG titles did not have stories of this type. Inner conflict, possessed arm, suffering souls vs. inner conflict, revenge, suffering souls, blah blah blah.

All the "done before GoW" comments are not valid arguments. You could use that logic to defend any game ripoff known to man. All listed items are changes towards NG that just happen to all be prevalent in GoW3. The designers are likely looking at GoW as inspiration for a western hit. Makes sense but doesn't mean that individuality isn't lost.

My point is that GOW did nothing unique for the genre. It just used a lot of ideas from other games. So I don't see how NG3 is taking ideas from it when those ideas were done long before it. And to be honest, Ninja Gaiden games are technically "dark". Seems like you are just grasping for straws there.

Are those claws I see?

Yes those are claws that you see. Unfortunately they are on an enemy ninja and not Ryu.

Umm...no I'm not. You are trying to say that a franchise that is well established, which switches up its make-up to closely resemble another established franchise, is purely consequently as the nature of the second franchise is not 100% original. That doesn't make any sense.

I'm glad they're showing more enemies.

I'm pretty excited for the game. What I played a couple months back was really enjoyable.

Even though I do not necessarily agree with all of the comparisons.
Most are more directly applicable to GoW then others. Some though, are kind of stretched since they can be applied in many directions. The weak points one, for example, is probably one I'd revoke. And the bow change is more accessibility then GoW. Though, its not like there is zero relation. Everything else is reasonable. The idea here is that this game just screams GoW except for the combat engine. Yet, the combat engine is disrupted by the stupid cinematography and useless inputs. Disruptions that are main features in GoW.

I don't feel like discussing this much more but this game feels like GoW invaded NG. And on top of that, team ninja decided to gimp a lot of the originality the franchise did hold. Easy examples are the strategic violence and weapon variety. I like both franchises though I favor NG much higher. But I'd rather them not bleed together so that one looks like a mod of the other.

Yes you are. But we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Ah, I see the enemy character design is still fuckin' terrible

I was actually relieved when I saw the return of horrible monster design! As stupid as they looked, they were interesting to fight and added a lot of visual and encounter variety. I would hate it if all you did was fight whiny, ineffectual humans for the entire game!

that is the black dragon clans witch. She and momiji have some kind of history and she is a a boss, in a smaller form in NGS2.

Edit: beaten,. umm. this changes things..im back on the fence with this game again.
Yes, I know who Obaba is. I just didn't see it at first. Except for the Sigma games, I have all the NG games including Dragon Sword.

I'm curious how Obama grew so huge!

The biggest thing they aped from GoW is player empowerment, IMO. You press x and y and badass stuff kind of happens. You don't have to block and the grunts can't stop you. The game doesn't force mastery of its mechanics as much as its predecessors, which makes it a different type of experience. This could change at the last minute but that's the impression I get from what I've seen thus far.
