Redskins beat the Giants twice. Who beat the previously defending World Champion Packers. Who beat the previously defending World Champion Saints.

Ergo, the Redskins are the best football team in at least three years.

Going by this logic Kyle Orton is an elite QB. Only Orton and Eli were able to defeat Rodgers. Add into that Orton defeated Tebow, who only lost to Stafford, Brady x 2, and Fitzpatrick.

What's the sense of a rebuilding team tagging a 31 yo DE?

I think we might be taking Ingram, Coples or Reiff in this draft. But if we sign Manning then either Tannehill or Reiff. I'm not in love with any of these players in this draft so I'm in favor of BPA

Nickelback is a bigger need than pass rusher, Nolan Carroll single-handedly lost us games last year and Will Allen is old. If we draft defense that has to be recognized as our biggest need. I think the fanbase might lose it if we take a Tackle in the first round too but wouldn't be a terrible pick if he can pass-block, idk shit about any of these guys but Coples tbh though.

It seems odd to me the Packers won't do anything with Flynn.

I get that TT doesn't want to bend the rules with the Franchise Tag but why not resign him and then trade?

Guess that he's fine with that compensatory pick.

Why would Flynn resign if not forced via the tag?

Help your former team, get paid in the process?

Someone's gonna pick him up...
Stocking draft picks would be helpful.

Ted's no capitalist I guess.

Apparently you think Flynn isn't. He'd be much better served letting the dregs of the NFL fight over his services and drive his number higher.

Giants franchise Punter Steve Weatherford. He's due to make 2.6 million with the franchise tag.

The team was close to a three year deal with him shortly after the SB and I'm sure they'll get it done to get him wrapped up long term. He was so damned good this past season for us (and completely key in the two victories against the Pats).

Only the third time the Giants have used the franchise tag since it was introduced (the other two were LT Jumbo Elliott and RB Brandon Jacobs).

Interesting bit of trivia:

Adam Schefter

Giants' Steve Weatherford joins Michael Koenen (2009) and Todd Sauerbrun (2003) as the only three punters ever to receive franchise tag.

Ravens update:

Adam Schefter ‏ @AdamSchefter

Ravens have terminated vested veteran (failed physical) CB Domonique Foxworth Monday afternoon, executive VP/GM Ozzie Newsome announced.
I hope they mean his contract! If not, that's some harsh shit, Ravens!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: Add another kicker to the franchise tag group:

Adam Schefter

Bucs used their franchise tag on kicker Connor Barth, the fifth kicker to get the franchise tag.

Colts keeping Mathis? Doesn't Freeney make $22m this year? Are they going to keep Peyton and make another run? What is going on there?

Seems the smart thing is to acknowledge the end of an era and start rebuilding. Sign some young, fast WR FAs with that money and let Luck get to slangin'

Because if they franchise him they will be on the hook for like $15 million for their back up QB and there is no guarantee a team will give up a 1st rounder for him knowing they have the Pack bent over a barrel.

Sounds like they have a three year deal in place, just working out the details. I'd imagine they thing Luck will be good before then.

From the Packers perspective...so? Again, for the 500th time, they don't pursue free agents. They have the money. Either it gets spent on Flynn or not spent at all. They lose nothing by tagging him. At best they get a compensatory 3rd rounder next year. They probably could have traded him for at least a second.

Tom Silverstein is reporting that Ted Thompson refused to even discuss trades with teams, so it looks like this was a principled stand on his part more than anything.

Fucking jackass. (I still love you Ted)
