Mass Effect 3 |OT| Space Jesus Returns (tag all spoilers)

So, does the retail PC version contain the promised high res textures, or was it all just BS?

Not that different from the demo from what I've seen. There are options for dynamic shadows and AA which makes the game look quite sharp in sections, but it is rough in others. I feel like most of the important aspects of the game (characters, immediate locations) look sharp enough (IMO), but if people are expecting a notable jump from the demo, they will be disappointed.

About 8 hours in and I feel like I have so much shit to do. I've done maybe 2 "main" missions, but I've picked up so many side quest. A lot of them actually seem pretty important. Will definitely start working on them later. Need a rest after that marathon lol.

Yeah... about that... after hearing impressions, it seems like its better to do sidequests as soon as possible because you never know when they're timed apparently.

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, the pre-order weapons bonus from Origins are not uploaded with the game. EA should have sent you an email with the codes from which you can redeem them through Origin.

I still love the way the ME games look because of the art direction. Excellent use of lighting, tones and overall aesthetic design. But, I do wish they'd push technology a lot harder. It's going to be interesting to see how it visually develop next gen.

Was my plan all along!

Glad to hear it!

From what im hearing, we should generally avoid investing in melee skills, as higher level enemies have instant melee kills at close range. So the fitness line of perks should be focused more on survivability, like shield regen and health.

Another thing im wondering is how effective shockwave is and if it´s worth the investment.

They should have hired the Witcher 2 team for the PC version. Would have been glorious.

Quick thoughts :

PS3 version from PSN, 1.01

Framerate still pretty bad in cutscenes, but there is a noticeable layer of polish in the visuals (better lighting/shader work) over the demo.

Animations are the same from the demo from what I can tell, I'm pretty much use to it by now though.

The image quality at times can be pretty astounding though. The AA deployed (I'm guessing it's MLAA or some variant) in game doesn't catch edges on certain objects but the overall image quality is very nice. It's certainly a leap over ME2.

Agreed. Bioware seems to be struggling with the tech this gen, but their art design keeps everything cohesive and memorable. The ME3 art direction is easily the best of the 3 IMO, but I can't help but think about what it would look like if Bioware had an in-house engine ala Naughty Dog.

So... no assigned button for keyboard chat in co-op.

Bioware really knows how to show its contempt and lack of pride in its work towards PC gamers.

Maybe its an EA thing... not that there isn't an infinite list of things for me to hate EA for currently, but shit like this and no controller support (along with the pathetic graphics options) makes me wonder sometimes about what happened to the dev that put out games like BG 1 and 2.

*Disclaimer: I'm currently enjoying the shit out of ME3, but decisions like the above leave me with a very bitter taste in my mouth towards Bioware's treatment of PC gamers.

I'm sure EA is already sending an army over to Bioware to get them to use Frostbite 2 instead of UE.

Interesting. I used shockwave a ton but in higher levels in ME2, the enemies aren't phased by it.

For those who bought the PC version, where do you go to buy the From the Ashes DLC? Is it from Origin? From the Bioware website?

it is rather sad that the best PC version of the Mass Effect series was the first game ported over by Demiurge Studios

I'm getting the 360 version, but I'm curious if there are any PS3 impressions.

The demo was absolutely atrocious on PS3 with a framerate that routinely dropped to 20 fps or lower.

Framerate is all over the place, ranging from decent to attrocious. Mostly decent in battles, mostly bad in cutscenes. I don't remember a single fight sequence or cutscene that ran smoothly from start to finish.

I bought it through Origin but they still make you buy Bioware points first. You can do it all through Origin itself though, it's just kind of redundant to buy bioware points and then go back to the DLC and buy that.

What i dont understand is why EA is not launching world wide with origin it is so easy to get pass that measurement. It would actually make me more willing to preorder on Origin or get a CD key.

Can you do the DLC early, or is it something like Shadow Broker that asked you do a bunch of missions before having access to it?

I'm going to guess you get him right after the Earth invasion or something. Can't have you buying a day 1 DLC only to be accessible 20 hours later.

Haven't confirmed myself yet (stopped just before this point), but apparently you can go get him as soon as you get access to the Galaxy Map.

The waiting for Friday is not going to be easy...

Plus, US getting it early and this Thread always on Top, argh, it's killing me, at least I'll have the weekend to play.

It's also worth noting that Mark Meer is definitely doing his best work of the trilogy (IMO). While the writing is cheesy at times, Meer is able to flesh out Shepard from being the quasi monotone paragon/slightly elevated voice Renegade, to some fairly emotional highs and lows. He sounds very sincere throughout the dialogue I've experienced and is able to bring some depth to a previously shallow character.

Aside from the combat powers bug and the NPC pathing issues that crop up its been a good 21 hours so far. Reviews are skewing way high but thats a given with the hype I guess.

Of all the things I hope they patch its the lip sync. I don' know why but it really breaks the immersion for me personally.

There are three locations you go to before getting free reign of the Normandy. It took me roughly 2.5 hours to get there. The DLC is available right after that.

I never disliked the guy as much as everyone else. I enjoyed him all the way through 1 and 2 and 3 continues with excellence with the source material that he has. Which at times doesn't compare to the previous games but he does very well.

Digging the Female Shepard. She really made up for the Face Rebuild thing and helped the continuity there.

Just a quick question, (I wanna get of of here as soon as possible).

Are there multiplayer trophies. If so, are they easy/hard?

Cheers.

Is this thing I'm reading true? Can't import appearance from ME2 if it was created in ME1? Or is it just sometimes, not always?

I think there is a trick to make it work(other than making it all over again), but i forgot what it is.

I hope they'll ditch the Unreal Engine. I'd like for them to use Frostbite 2.0. EA seems to put it everywhere these days; hell, Hot Pursuit was running on it. A driving game!

So Amazon Canada did ship my package yesterday, which is good considering it said March 9th was when it would ship. But they are using UPS.

Hey, lets deliver your package when you're not home. Then just leave a note saying we'll try again. Hey look at that, when we try again, we came in the middle of the fucking day again when everyone is at work. JUST FUCKING LEAVE THE PACKAGE THERE.

So I know this is a dumb question with this type of game, but what general hour count are we looking at for main story? Just curious if it's on par with 2 for time.

FOR PEOPLE IMPORTING AN ORIGINAL ME1 CHARACTER:

ME3 is incompatible with faces built on the original ME1 editor. The reason for this is while ME2 takes raw ME1 data to transfer your face, ME3 does not, instead using the generated ME2 face codes. Unfortunately when importing a ME1 face into ME2, your character will not generate an accurate code. Thus, when importing into ME3, no face code exists for the game to read.

You can still import your character and all your decisions from previous games, but you will need to remake your face.

Or you can follow the instructions on this website to generate the most accurate ME2 equivalent face code for your ME1 original Shepard. It works very well. There will be some errors, due to the script used to generate the code, but most of these are basic and easily fixable things like hair/brow/iris colour. All the little details, such as facial shape, jaw width, nose height, etc, these will transfer correctly. The website used to generate your code will list what features it reset to default anyway, making it easy to see what you need to fix.

This works for 360 and PC saves.

I hope they'll ditch the Unreal Engine. I'd like for them to use Frostbite 2.0. EA seems to put it everywhere these days; hell, Hot Pursuit was running on it. A driving game!

I think this is a given, at least I hope it is. I quite like UE3, but I honestly feel like BioWare struggles quite a bit with the engine, especially for optimisation. Having EA funded studios like DICE acting as technical support should make for easier, more reliable learning.

They don't do the same thing as Purolator? Which is, if you're not at home, they'll keep the package at the closest Purolator building where you can go pick it up whenever you want?

When does the DLC take place? I'm not getting any e-mails in game telling me that there's a mission to do. Is it something that happens automatically?
