Can't wait to go pick up both versions later today. I haven't been this excited about a sports game in a while. Looking forward to being able to play the same RTTS on the vita and ps3. I think that feature alone sold me.

I'm shocked to see that my online pass still isn't working. It's release day! I haven't been able to use the online features since Friday. :/

Almost done with the 10GB install.

Using this fact as an opportunity to bump this thread. So little love for sports games round hea. :(

Soo much slowdown in the Vita version =/

Yup, the choppiness is disappointing. I think one of the reasons we don't see broadcast presentation in this game is simply because they couldn't get it running properly in time for release.

I love having The Show on Vita but it's obviously in a rush state. I do appreciate that they focused on importing a near complete feature set from the PS3 version instead of tweaking the graphics but give us barebone options.

Next year I expect the full package.

I need to know about slowdown. If it's during gameplay it's unacceptable for a baseball game.

I've only scene it in cutscenes all weekend. I've mostly played my pitcher RTTS on it. The frame rate for the entire game seems a bit off though. I'm not someone who usually notices FPS but I can see this being an issue for some who are concerned with that sort of thing.

If it's cutscenes I don't mind. Fifa plays like a dream but bogs in cutscenes, who cares. If it's affecting pitch timing that would be a disaster.

With all the talk of slowdown in the Vita version, I might cancel my preorder.. Is it that bad? BTW, no I don't want the PS3 version..

Yeah, like I've said, I've been doing pitching all weekend and haven't noticed any slowdown.

I really wanted the Vita version to be awesome. Let down with reported issues and omission of the #1 mode I wanted.

Yeah, I think Diamond Dynasty would actually work best as a mode played on a portable device. Of course, I think the mode requires you to be online to play which is an issue.

Gamespot's review says the online is still messed up and broken. Great.

http://www.gamespot.com/mlb-12-the-show/reviews/mlb-12-the-show-review-6364631/?page=2

The online experience for The Show is still very much a sticking point. Match performances vary greatly, depending on how busy the servers are, but even at low periods, slowdown during games may occur. Issues, such as slow-reacting outfield players, momentary pauses between a pitch and catch, and other smaller questionable scenarios occur. They're also a factor in determining a match winner and loser. The Show has struggled in past years to fix online net code issues, and people who want to take their game online may have to endure some less-than-stellar games.

I don't understand why this hasn't been solved.

The online issues for the Show do not make any sense, it's been a major problem for... 4+ years. I'm going to wait a week on online before writing it off because sometimes the servers are just bogged down in the first week, as is the case with Madden, which usually runs like a dream after the first week.

The reviewer wouldn't have had to deal with bogged down servers pre-release.

Your dreams must be terrible.

I agree with DoctorWho. I played several games where slowdown didn't appear during gameplay. It did happen a little here or there during a cut-scene.

Overall, I'm happy with this as a portable solution. Being that I purchased the PS3 and the Vita version at the same time, I think that paying about $19.99 for the game is a solid deal.

I don't think your experiences are the same as most. Pretty much no one complains about online in the madden league and outside of the outage, last year was smooth for the Show with the vast majority of people I played. Though that game where you scored 20 on me was clearly a result of LAG

I think my experiences are more realistic than most. I try not to give my games a view wearing the homer goggles. For me the benchmark for smooth online in a sports game is probably NHL in almost every aspect. Madden generally feels to me like an unpolished title. Isn't very surprising at the rate it sells.

MLB at least for me last season was smooth as it ever has been. My major problem with the game is the online's setup, features, and franchise options. Maybe some of the restrictions is due to the PSN service? It just always feels like that is the last thing they have on their mind when designing the game. Depending on their data on how people play the game, that's probably the right mindset for them.

I'm talking (and I think the guys you originally replied to is the same) about only the actual playing of a game online against another person. In both Madden and MLB, it's been fine for the past few years. I remember last year you had to do some port opening and other mumbo jumbo just to get it to work at all, so I think for whatever reason you're getting poorer performance. It was the same for me when I was out east, maybe Comcast just hates Sony.

If you're talking about features, etc. then yes, MLB is years behind anyone else.

I'm talking about features. I haven't been getting poor performance in MLB.

I have zero issues with MLB at the moment during online play. Opening ports is pretty standard and can only improve online performance. The primary reason I wanted people to open their ports is to avoid disconnection. Many people have routers with strange configurations that have never been properly adjusted. In the end that seemed to be the only re-occurring theme with the game, which I believe is more of a PSN issue.

At this point with Sony games, all I care about is that the online play works. I can't think of a single PS3 game where there weren't significant online issues. Christ, is Twisted Metal even playable yet?

I don't care as much about features on this platform...just make it work.

Your dreams must be terrible.

I do have strange dreams. But, Madden runs very well online. I played in the Gaf league this year and while a few games would be laggy they were always with the same people, and for people who had real internet connections instead of 128baud satelites in the boonies, the game played really well.

Baseball is a different game altogether though and it is entirely timing. Playing effectively in Madden in the Gaf league and others is as much about what you chose before the play as it is while the play is running. Baseball is a one on one timing matchup and if anything is remotely off, the game becomes almost unplayable. Sadly, The Show has suffered from abysmal online problems. Although I don't know if 2K has faired any better, I haven't played it since MLB 2K6 or 2K7 when you could scale the green monster to rob home runs.

*edit*
Maybe I'm in my own world with the problems with The Show online. I didn't get '11, but read at the time that it suffered from the same slowdown that '10 and '09 had. I have a pretty sick home internet connection too (100mb down, although a paultry 10mb up).

That's.. Kind of dumb. What if I don't care about a multiplayer/coop/whatever DD mode? It better be there next year.

Een so, I can't help but think that it'll easily beat the PSP versions, which I played the hell out of. I mean, those aren't crazy expectations, right?

You guys are making me nervous about picking up the Vita version. I'm grabbing the PS3 version at lunch no matter what, so the question just becomes "is it worth $20"?
