Halo |OT2| Hyper-Athletic Speed And Mass And Weight and Power

The issue is the same it's always been. If the BR is a starting weapon, than the pistol, without some kind of differentiating factor, is useless.

If the BR is a pick-up on the map, then those who spawn with the pistol will be at a disadvantage to it.

If the BR is a pickup in a theoretical game with pistol starts, it would be a power weapon and one to be fought over for control. The disadvantage is required.

In a game type with a BR start, with the pistol a secondary, it isn't useless - it's a backup. There doesn't have to be an issue.

Like all game play mechanics, it's ALL about IMPLEMENTATION.

I'm not sure what you're looking at lol, but the image I find is from USHandicap (golfing site) with a little British looking guy hugging a swarthy American looking guy.

I still can't figure the damn thing out a year later.

Really?

Has there been any confirmation that we will still have 4 players per screen, in splitscreen/system link and online. That is my biggest worry. Halo's multiplayer exists because of the LAN matches and tunneled matches people had. It is a part of Halo's legacy that I think shouldn't be forgotten. Hopefully they addressed this somewhere already and I missed the detail.

I agree that a level of disadvantage should exist between starting utility weapons and weapons that have to be earned on the map. How much of a gap in advantage is the question.

Many felt that the gap between the pistol and the DMR in Reach, for example, was too large.

Personally, I'd love to start with a 5sk pistol with variable firing and recoil. That and an AR for close encounters. Then pick the BR up on the map and decide whether to lose the pistol or the AR.

I still can't figure the damn thing out a year later.

I ONLY use the secondary firing mode where you hold the trigger and release. Once I did that, it was gravy.

agreed. i'd add that the pistol in reach now is a better option for CQC then the dmr. i'm really hoping that we get to chose our starting weapon and sidearms. as an example you could pick your primary from AR/BR/DMR/other and as your secondary the SMG/pistol/other.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping when it comes to weapon loadouts.

All the important weapons are still on the map, and all the utility weapons are available to choose from.

Only I would say you should have access to any combination of them. If you want to go BR/DMR fine. You'll be a mid-range dynamo, and totally vulnerable at close range.

I personally, would go AR/BR so fast.

The pistol should be 3sk but have very limited range and heavy recoil. Btw, I hope they made changes to it in terms of sound and feel. While I thought many of the older weapons were improved in Reach the pistol still looked and sounded a bit goofy.

yeah, possibly. i think a BR/DMR combo would be terrifyingly dominant though!

As far as the grenade pistol goes...I've never liked the design of it. I hope it isn't replacing the pro-pipe, and even if it does serve the exact same thing, I'd like to see a redesign.

About the Multiplayer story discussion: Personally I don’t think the Halsey vs. ONI story won’t work. Why? It requires information from GoO and Glasslands and 343i definitely won’t spoil some parts of the story. Speaking for myself the story has to be simple, integrated well and not complex. A complex plot would be: There is a feud between Spartans IV. It is too complex. See reason above. What would be a very simple and well integrated plot look like? It is very simple: The whole MP is just the training of the Spartan IVs. Nothing more. Maybe when you meet the Spartan IVs in the campaign it will show your MP Spartan. That can be a nice feature. Otherwise I even haven’t convinced myself of this plot. That's why I’m very excited to hear what 343i prepared for us.

Edit.: I'm getting old. Happy Birthday Monkey!
Otherwise PAX East is just a month away! Shouldn't we start with serious planning?

I'm hoping it's functionally different: it attaches a grenade to metal objects for a timed detonation. (Wild and crazy version: you can find different kinds of attachments to launch from it.)

Yes, I'm still bitter the ability for the trip mine to attach to the underside of Warthogs was removed after the Halo 3 beta.

Grappling hook, similar to the one Luke uses in Empire. Warthog skiing will become a thing.

I still can't figure the damn thing out a year later.

Hold trigger. Release when you suspect it's close to the thing you need to kill. I find I have better luck with aerial targets or bouncing it after fleeing one-shots. Which I admit amounts to about four kills total. But still above the Tashi Ceiling. And don't forget the bounce can work anywhere, including shooting at the ground in front of you.

Best way to use the grenade launcher is using the secondary fire. Hold the trigger until it's right next to them and then release. It probably won't kill them every time, so keep your dmr handy. Don't bother with trying to primary fire, it's often too difficult to get the trajectory and bounce right in tight situations.

You know what I would really love in future halo titles? The ability to create a 'playlist' for custom game's, similar to gears.

The ability to choose the next map and game type and than bundle it into a custom game playlist without having to go back to the lobby every time to choose the next thing you wanna play would be awesome.

I sure would love a beta after seeing clips of the multiplayer side of the game. Has 343i slammed the door shut on the possibility? I haven't been doing a good job of keeping up with anything. I distinctly remember not caring much for the Halo3 beta, but I rather enjoyed the Reach beta, despite my overall dislike of the game after release. And looking back, the pistol's limited clip probably contributed to that more than anything else. It looked good and it felt good, but it was like being handed a box of milk duds only to find out that all but a couple had already been eaten.

Halo 3 had a basic idea correct, and that is you are rewarded for playing the game no matter what as well as being rewarded for winning. Reach also had a system correct and that was for offering different amounts for different achievements, and rating you as a part of the population not on a number. Here's the big catch though: Neither system was near perfection. The Halo 3 ranked grind was terrible. It promoted second accounts once the progression slowed. It shined in showing your approximate skill level though, assuming you played ranked. Reach's ranks don't show your approximate skill as we all know. Arena is a good concept, but Reach failed by limiting it to one playlist.

My solution is to spread Arena across all playlists, but hide it for social lists. Assign "credits" for certain actions like kills, headshots, etc. and most importantly wins.

Have at it, peeps.

Arena also failed in that for a long time, the objectively correct way to play was to sabotage your own team, which evidently no one thought was a bad idea before launch.

So the fact that they are giving multiplayer a story this time around makes me think there will be a meta game involving multiplayer. Perhaps you sign up for a side and your match results alter the meta game. Perhaps different game types are doled out based on certain meta game criteria.

they havent outright said it, but if you read between the lines it seems clear there will be no beta.

Story for multiplayer sounds like a hell of an opportunity for an ARG.

Go on, try and tell me that's a bad idea. CUZ IT AIN'T.

Really hope we get some good FFA experience with this game. Even being on GAF now, I'm a loner when it comes to Halo.

You know what would be cool?

If someone made a website where you could go to, put in

  • What playlists you like to play
  • What your location is (Northwest North America, Uk etc)
  • Are you super competitive, looking to have fun, Doesn't Matter
  • Mic Preferred,Not preferred,Mandatory or Optional
  • Maybe even a field where you can indicate if you would rather get matched up with Someone within a certain range of your rank

It would find possible teammates are close to the criteria you input.

Enjoyed that interview ;)

Can't wait to see some more multiplayer maps... hell I can't wait to see ANYTHING at this point.

I was hoping we would get the little map callouts under the Radar from Reach. Those were a nice feature (and even nicer if we could edit them for our own maps).

At least Marseille are in Champions League unlike...who are you a fan of? You seem like a Wolves or Swansea guy.

EW OR BURNLEY.

Ewww.

Nah, Man Utd, BEFORE you say it, no, I'm not a glory hunter.

I was originally from Manchester, I live in Durham/Newcastle now.

I see it as a failed experiment. No one used them after shorter and more specific callouts were made by players.

I am very, very happy that 343 decided to go back to the traditional route of developing multiplayer maps. No collaboration between MP designers and campaign designers and they're not going to be in the campaign. Bravo.

Yea I never used it either, great idea just didn't stick because games are too hectic to look down there to see it.

That hurt Reach a lot for me, I don't mind similar scenery but ripping it out like Boneyard or Sword Base just took away from it. Halo 2 didn't do this and their map collection was perfect.

Agreed. And I want to be able to go from playlist to playlist and not be playing a totally different game. 343 needs to put Halo 4 out there and stick by their guns.

And yea DLC should go free after a while. That's like basic shit. I can't imagine that these Halo maps have legs.

A good compromise would be DLC goes free after a while, but the free version doesn't give you the achievements, new armors, etc. Just the maps.

Also, a skull appears on the weapon's display when people are in the kill range.

I am hoping that because Frankie said that the BR wasn't replacing anything, and because their is going to be custom loadouts, that will mean we get to pick our starting weapon. BR, Magnum, AR, other Covy/forerunner/other crazy shit starting weapons.

I see it as a failed experiment. No one used them after shorter and more specific callouts were made by players.

Most of them were not as specific as I would have liked, but still see them as a good thing added to the game, and hope 343 adds them as well.

So when do the floodgates really open for H4 info?

We have PAX, E3, and what else coming up that I should be watching out for?
