As commercial as GDC has become, I love the idea that this game's reveal is being framed around the reveal of a new simulation engine. Hopefully us mere mortals will be able to get our hands on that presentation before too long. Would love to hear the gritty details about it.

This is unreal. I just reinstalled Sim City 4 in the past month, plus we had that "Where's the next Sim City?" thread a little while back, as well..Nostalgia for a new city-sim has been hitting me hard. I considered getting City XL, but I doubt my computer could run it, and I hear mixed things.

I sort of hope they put this on a console. Then again, that prospect makes me nervous as well, given the shift in design philosophy it would require..but it might actually be the only way I could end up playing the game.

well I had a ATI card so I always got major screen tearing, I guess that's from the last expansion, wow I never got it because the zoo part of it pulled me off, because it should be separate from a theme park.

but that looks a lot better than my parks ever did

Well the zoo thing was a gimmick. There were a lot of behind the scenes stuff that made the game better, including a more flexible coaster type. That and a lot of the scenery made requires it.

Not sure if anyones seen this, but here's an apparent GDC trailer cut,

Pulled. That was it.

Definitely looking forward to more news about this one.

I just can't shake this pessimistic feeling, though, that there's going to be one giant modern gaming turd mixed in with all the goodness.

Hmmm, even the creators say they wanted to make a world that's seemingly small and architectural mode-like.

Still not convinced if I like that though.

While I like this: "give a style to your city" theme (Industrial, Cultural, etc), I just hope that the game doesn't follow the same direction as SC: Societies.

Limiting a city to a specific style is no good at all. As a matter of fact it takes away diversity within the city. So I hope is a "neighbourhood" theme, rather than a city theme.

Sadly, from that trailer... it doesn't seem to be what I'm expecting :(

Indeed. It would be more awesome if you had all possible styles and scenarios within a city, based on your policies for each of your neighborhoods. The art district, the blue collar district, the villa district, the high-tech district, ...

I'll compile this into a new thread in a bit and then lock this one.

Edit: I posted it and it... disappeared?

Um... sec.

Seriously, if it looks like that, there's no way in hell it'll work on most PC's. I'll be lucky if it even works on my Air.

This post is confusing because it pretends like a MacBook Air should be expected to play games.

It can barely handle the latest iteration of the Source engine at high details

Doesn't inspire me much (doesn't look that much about management but more about all that fluffy jazz that is ala mode, sims, personalisation, multiplayer, blablabla).

....but I will give it a chance. I seriously doubt it will kick SimCity4's ass at this point though. :/

Those are some incredible low specs for a 3d game that supposedly looks beautiful

I guess with this image, it relates to the system where if you catch X amount of criminals, you can upgrade the police department with one of the available upgrades,

Sounds like they're just calling this one SimCity. No numerals.

Seems like the complexity's been scaled back a good deal from 4, so it wouldn't make much sense to continue the old numbering. Probably a good idea for them, though we haven't seen how far this city themeing stuff goes yet.
