Halo |OT2| Hyper-Athletic Speed And Mass And Weight and Power

So dumb. What's going to happen when your recoil-controlled shots are negatively impacted by network problems? Will it not be "consistent" anymore?

While I dont like the idea of recoil for the BR, I dont see network problems really affecting it? With recoil I would assume the reticule would kick, and so you would know exactly where the bullet should go. If netcode eats that bullet regardless of recoil or no recoil you would know if the bullet should have hit true.

I say that rather optimistically now, im sure I will be proven wrong.

I must have missed the Halo game in which where you aim is not where you shoot.

Bloom is client side, too.

With bloom the bullet could go anywhere in the circle, you just dont know where your bullets will end up if you dont control the bloom and since theres only no bloom on the first shot its always going to be a problem. Bloom + netcode means you dont know where the bullet is supposed to end up and you dont know if it ended up going off course because of bloom or just didnt register.

Bloom masks network issues. Recoil wouldn't be able to do the same thing. That said I still dont like the idea of recoil.

Bulletin up.

and my picture got used!

I'm pretty sure David has this framed in his office.

I was hoping to be greeted with an audio clip of the BR in action, alas. Sounds like it will sound awesome, though. Question: the Halo 2 BR was a laser, the Halo 3 featured spread. I'm inferring the Halo 4 version will have no bullet spread, but instead recoil (in the current iteration) - is that correct?

Didn't they both have recoil?

I don't believe either of them did. Halo 2 had no recoil and no spread, and was also hitscan, Halo 3 had spread and travel time, but no recoil. It sounds like Halo 4 will have no spread, is hitscan, and has recoil. But I'm inferring the spread bit because it hasn't been mentioned, it hasn't been specified that I can see.

Delighted to see the 2x zoom back.

Also saw the recoil, kind of made sense all things considered since 343 is really trying to immerse you in the game this time around. Spartans were quick but you could hear their weight. Recoil just seems like another addition that might be part of this direction of immersion.

Well David just told you there isn't spread ;)

That was a really stinkin enjoyable bulletin, well-written etc.

But like most everyone else I am saddened by the notion that it doesn't sound like we are starting with the BR as cool as it sounds (Get it?! An audio joke!).

Also the logo made me miss Letters, too. You'll be back soon, though, friend!

<insert bullshit canon crap about how spartans should be able to aim accurately and without recoil>

If Halo 4 is going to have AR starts by default, there better be BR Slayer (etc.) gametypes in Matchmaking on day 1. Or give me customizable loadouts. Or a really, really good pistol.

Otherwise, I will be le sad.

nope. Not good enough. Done vetoing and praying for a decent map with a useful starting weapon.

Why would 343 show the BR like they have been and then turn around and shit on us like that? Would you do that to us?

I liked that bulletin also. BR info was great and seeing Cyren's creation released to the Halo community at-large was nice.

As for BR starts, I'm willing to bet there will be a playlist (other than SWAT and MLG) in which BR starts are the norm.

I miss you too Letters. Even though you're asleep on the sidewalk outside my place--I miss you too.

Letters isn't really on the sidewalk outside my place. He lives in all of us, forever.

Yeah, I know, I'm grasping at straws here. I'm just trying to not let news like this kill my excitement. I'll just have to Wait and See™ and try to not jump to conclusions.

There's a fine line to draw when trying to make a title accessible for new people and the older fans who know how to play. That being said AR starts do not elevate anyone's level of play and you're left spawning with an inept close range weapon while being pegged down by mid-range/long range weapons on any given map. Halo 2 made this mistake. Halo 3 made this mistake. Reach made this mistake. I really don't want to see this in H4.

They probably haven't really finalized gametypes yet, I'm sure at least some(hopefully most) of them with be BR starts.

Or at least give us a non-garbage pistol.

Maybe there will be a "scoped, burst-fire AR" perk?

If we spawn with ARs and Magnums and the Magnum is 2x scope and requires as many trigger pulls to kill as the BR then that could be sort of ok, but then the question becomes: why have a balanced utility weapon that you don't give to players on spawn?

I'm still guessing that BR starts are going to be the norm in the more competitive playlists. Frankie's insistence that Halo 4's playlists are going to be focused right out of the gate points to a set of lists that cater to casual players and another set of lists that caters to zealots like us.

I have 1 copy of Dungeon Defenders on Steam to give out to HaloGAF. No questions, no trivia. Just say you want it and promise you'll use it and it's yours.

Standard Halo prize giving away will resume shortly.

Of course there will be BR starts gametypes and even entire playlists dedicated to them, but even a single match with AR starts is one too many.

Unless 343 made drastic changes to it (which I doubt) the skill-gap on that thing with be remain minimal. It's really noticeable when we used to play with a party of 5 gaffer in Squad Slayer (RIP) against bad players. Every DMR starts game we would utterly destroy the opponents and it would end in like 75-20 and during AR matches the other team generally got more kills, somewhere around the 30-40 count.

If they keep the AR, I have full faith they are modifying it drastically.
Everything they have announced so far has exceeded what I was hoping for.

Ooo. I wants it. :)

Looks like Mac version just came out.

Edit: Oh, Bregmann Roche spoke up first.

It should be. It seems like an obvious decision. Give the players who can aim a BR and let the scrubs use ARs. It's that simple.
Because, like Devo said about the entire long-mid range beating the AR, if an entire team starts with BRs, the "scrubs", as you call them, will be demolished and be unhappy, saying it's not the arcadey game, Halo, they wanted to buy.

Ye're all too cut and dry, If Halo was being aimed at a smaller audience sure, but they kind of have to/choose to cater to all sides as best they can.

But that's why we have TrueSkill!
