Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

I can't believe they had the balls to call that thing REVOLUTION and they came out like roses being the top selling console

then even more balls to change the name to Wii (Oh Nintendo I love U cause u so crazy)

I'd be shocked if GTA V isn't on the Wii U. Why wouldn't it be?

Same reason Tomb Raider isn't going to be on Wii U. Development is too far along and there's too much to do that they don't want to devote resources into making a worthwhile Wii U version. At least not at the moment.

I think that's a relatively reasonable reason.

I hope we're shocked come E3. I hope we're fucking floored with all the work that's been going on behind the scenes.

Same here. I want gasps.

Sounding petty here, but I'd love to see those long-time naysayers shut-up, even if it's just temporarily before they glom-onto their next invented bullshit critique. That momentary time where they are stunned would be delicious.

Chinatown Wars sold well imo
1.2 million is a healthy number for a mature game on a Nintendo handheld on its first try
Wii U has more chances to sell better

nevermind... I totally forgot it was on GBA/C too :p

If we don't get GTA V on Wii U, I bet this will be their lame excuse

I still don't know why TR shouldn't be on Wii U since it has a similar architecture like the 360 and the Darksider 2 guys needed one line for their engine to run on Wii U.

I could swear either CD is just too lazy or they have been visited by Nintendo Ninjas.

Ahhh.. not quote as bad as the old "Reggie farted in the elevator that one time years ago" excuse, but still.. a bit cheesy.

One of my general rules is this: if I see it made so that a version can be played on a cell phone or portable, my B.S. detector goes off.

be careful that one line of code was to get the game to stream on uPad

still I hope Square kicks a fuss and pushes the game to WiiU anyway

I think hardware sales can change a lot of minds down the road too so next spring we should know better how devs really feel about this WiiU

I'm going to say it's the former
It could be a late port, just like almost all the first generation of third party Wii U games

Yeah. They should do it like Ninja Gaiden 3 then and release an enhanced version with DLCs for it a bit later.

And about the magic thread: I don't take most people there serious to be honest :lol But this is because they are too old :lol

No, I think it makes sense either way. Porting it wouldn't be difficult, but it does require an allocation of resources. You'd need more than 2 guys to port it properly and do the game justice, especially with the potential of the new controller. Game development is a very stressful process riddled with deadlines and milestones. Depending on the resources available, I respect the decision not to create an entire new team dead center in the middle of development in order to add a port to a newly launched platform. It might just be more trouble than it's worth.

Wasn't it one line of code to get the game streamed to the pad?

Still have no idea WHY the hell Ken Levine showed up in that Wii U developer reel: it didn't make any sense to me. I don't need a developer who isn't interested in the system telling me how interesting the system is, even if it's an heavyweight like Levine.

yes the one line of code thing was for streaming the game

visited by Nintendo Ninjas to hush up?

I don't even care for Tomb Raider to look even better on the WiiU I just hate excuses

No, being lazy and no porting it.
And I hate excuses too, I mean.. WTF? Why do CD think they're special?
Darksiders, Batman, Ninja Gaiden and even Aliens: CM to name a few are being reworked to take advantage of the Wii U's controller unique capabilities
And pretty sure they were in development when the console was announced.

shitty excuse is shitty

I wonder is Bioshock Vita is more than vaporware. I'm starting to think that a port of an iOS Bioshock game is the best we can hope.

Tomb Raider is being super hyped by the press - that's why.

what that the exact words cookychan?

"Just to be clear, there are no plans," said Levine. "I'm not saying it can't happen, but we have no plans to do any games for that platform."

Tomb Raider is being super hyped by the press - that's why.

Admittedly, it does look good. But I hate the shitty excuses some devs excrete out. If they're not doing it, they should just say "We're not developing for the Wii U". Not some bullshit answer about "It's SO AWESOME but because of BS#1 or BS#2, we can't do it"

I want Nintendo to invest in a few exclusives from these genres

Racing Sim/Arcade Racer = GT/Forza clone

Epic Adventure = Tomb Raider/Uncharted clone

exclusive dudebro = I don't play this shit so have no clue what the core wants :p

I also want a Dark Souls / Witcher type game

Guys, they're smack dab in the middle of development of those games. It's not reasonable to expect ports of all in-development games. That's like throwing wrenches in the engine. It can distract from the main development of the game and be taxing on finite resources. If anyone is at fault, it's nintendo for not courting those games for their upcoming platform earlier in the game's dev cycle.

I hear ya.

However...

I really really doubt Nintendo would have approached him if they at least didn't plan on asking him to do a game. And I doubt he (Ken) would have appeared in that dev reel if he at least wasn't considering developing something for the Wii U.

So my guess is that at the end, we are going to get a Levine game.

His appearance in that video just underlines the fact how rushed the whole conference was.

I'm still pretty sure Nintendo had no choice. The 01net leaks from Ubisoft were all over the internet and they couldn't just ignore it. I just wish they would have actually given less information and actually stated this was just a preview of things to come, not the actual unveiling of Wii U. First impressions can remain first impressions if E32012 doesn't sufficiently blow everyone's socks off.

For Wii U, really, I just want Nintendo's usual quality games + Dark Souls II + the biggest 3rd party games (eg. Assassin's Creed, GTAV, Call of Duty). I really don't care much about other things since I have my PC as well. Maybe a quality eShop with a vibrant indie scene but that's about it.

Well, they should just do what Epic does. Zero bs or lip-service. "We have to make business decisions on how to allocate our (limited) resources, and the platform didn't made the cut". But it was kinda a let down that they had such a strong presence on the Vita unveil conference just to keep hyping the iPad, and only it, a few weeks later.

I have to find out how much a nice PC with Kepler will cost me first but I hope your list pans out :)

I wonder how much Apple pays Epic for Infinite series exclusitivity.

yup that was smart the dude just said if we had 10 dev teams sure! that was good enough for me no BS

I bet Apple invested a shit ton of money to just get that but they do have a monster amount to burn they can buy just about anyone right now

I'll find out if gaming works on that thing when I get an iPad later in the year my old macbook is too old

It's not too unrealistic, except maybe for the Dark Souls part. That's just my wishful thinking.

I'd absolutely expect all major 3rd parties (Ubisoft, Activision, Take-Two, EA) to put their main games on Wii U. Dev costs continue to rise and the Wii U is another easy avenue of profit due to the apparent similarities to 360 architecture. I can totally see some smaller publishers like CD Projekt or some new IPs not coming to the Wii U though.

and Nintendo's quality games are a definite. No need to even question that.

Something else I hope we see or hear about at E3 is No More Heroes 3. Suda 51's last retail game was Shadows of the Damned last year so he may have started work on the project already. He's the "creative director" for lolipop chainsaw, but I have no idea what that entails.
