Mass Effect 3 Spoiler Thread |OT2| Taste the Rainbow

I like Kaidan so you're already wrong. Also, if you didn't notice this before, many fan arts/vids/sketches have Kaidan alive and Ashley dead.

This doesn't surprise me. Kaiden is just boring while Ashley is actively unpleasant.

Also, just wondering, what are Kaiden's dialogue scenes like? Does he get super drunk and pass out on the floor as well?

It frustrates me so much to hear these podcasts have a giant circle jerk in defense of the ending. They are FoxNews-ing this entire controversy by being vague regarding the valid criticisms and focusing on the extreme ends, which are easier to dismantle. 'Oh my God! FTC filings! How absurd!' or 'Look at these assclowns demanding a refund after they put 30+ hours into the game!' They focus on these stances instead of the many well thought out critiques on the ending. 'Plotholes? Logic holes? You guys are silly picking a story apart like that; so silly we won't even begin to address them beyond the surface level.'

Or worse, these so called journalists attempt to defend quotes from Bioware regarding the game's content that were not in the final product, without even having the quote in front of them to read. Then they proceed to 'paraphrase' the quotes and are not even close! Their paraphrased version does not even resemble the initial statement, at which point they go on to defend it. 'We did get three radically different endings!' Damn it gets to me.

You people are supposed to be the professional critics of this medium. Hell lets have a podcast and invite listeners to call in. Lets be sure to not go out of our way to include anyone with a different perspective than us, and then after the show lets pick out three voicemails to respond to that simply regurgitate everything we just said. Great idea. I'm sure there was not one phone call to PC Gamer from someone describing immense disappointment with the game.

Even typing this is getting me worked up. Fuck people! You are journalists! Chase the story. Attempt to address both sides fairly. Patrick Klepek is the only one actually doing his job in this regard.

To be fair, Kaiden is one of the voices during that part, showing that she's still haunted at that point by having to choose to send him to his death.

I can actually hear Mordin's and later on, Legion's voice in some of the dream sequences. So I don't understand why they didn't just show those character's ghostly presence instead of the brat?

No he doesn't. Bioware was surprisingly creative with differentiating Kaidan and Ashley storyline. I mentioned this before that Kaidan is less hostile to Shepard than Ashley is in the game. Kaidan also doesn't get drunk (you never see him in Purgatory, IIRC). Some of their dialogues are different, etc.

You can also hear Kaiden/Ash depending, and Thane.

Of all the dead squadmates...which one was going to be the ghost? I get not liking the bookend vent kid/vent god idiot devices, but they clearly showed in game that Shepard is haunted by the dead people in her past.

But he represents humanity! How do you not care about humanity and Earth!

That reminds me of TIM's last words before he dies. A perfect way to send off that character.

Should've been like ROTJ with smiling/creepy ghosts appearing in the background.

Chart is inaccurate since decisions from both 1 and 2 affect what happens in 3. Some lines should still intertwine then at some point the green line should give the red and blue lines the finger.

Redo it. You have exactly 7 minutes.

Do they in anyway affect the ending? No? OK then.

Wow this thread filled up with defenders and loonies since I last read. Psh.

Anyone that defends the ending I've found to be ignorant and not understanding of what's happening, or jumping on the bandwagon with the outsiders who love to call ending haters (so mostly everyone) "entitled". Shit is lame.

You're not entitled. You apparently just have an ego the size of the moon, and no one else's opinion matters but yours.

Get off your damned high horse and realize there's a bit of nuance to the situation. You're no better than the people that don't understand what your side is saying, either. People can enjoy the ending and realize there are problems, you know.

I mean seriously why is an ending to a game a "You're either with us or against us" situation? This is a little bit silly.

There are some interesting points but, it seems at the end, he suggest that people are upset with the ending because Shepard dies. I haven't seen an article in the gaming press that has represented the argument against the ending accurately. I also wish the movement to change the ending never happened because the protest has become the story.

Everything I've read out of the gaming press about the issue ends up concluding that fans unhappy about the ending are irrational and entitled and unable to accept Shepard's death. It's so frustrating to read over and over again with no way to argue the actual points. I feel like the ending collapses under even the most limited scrutiny but I have yet to read an article that delves into the undeniable issues.

Agreed.

That column, despite coming from a 'reputable' source like the WSJ, makes some bad journalistic errors. Well, one huge mistake that completely renders his analysis invalid: He never once directly quotes anyone who thought the ending was poor. We hear from one of ME3's writers, we hear from Bioware's CEO, and we're treated to a barrage of quotes from gaming bloggers who think the fan reaction is idiotic. In the space of all those quotes, he never once found a single voice sympathetic to the fans' reaction?

Had he done so, he would have realized that fans aren't upset that ME ended (a dubious charge, given that Bioware is going to be selling post-release DLC), or that Shepard dies. He would have learned - and been surprised like I was - that there is a very cogent argument being made against ME3's ending that doesn't revolve around a misplaced sense of ownership.

And man, it did really seem to me that the author just really wanted to call gamers 'entitled' and 'childish'.

edit: It looks like people did show up in the combox to correct the author. Hopefully he reads that stuff!

Defies logic. Negates player choice. Abrupt. Poorly written. Thematically inconsistent. Vent kid. Indoctrination. Space magic.

I think that covers the main points.

But you just describe all of Mass Effect. I avoid this thread and all ME stuff until I finish the game this week. I also don't understand the rage about the ending... Some of the stuff about Normandie tag on was kinda dumb they should have everything just fade to black or white after you make your choice...but I am sure people would bitch about that too.
