Just upgraded to Senior. Thinking of Manager level but I don't know if I can fund 900€ in 2 weeks. I wanted to upgrade in July, but it seems it won't be possible anymore then :(

I had no idea there were so many pansies here :p I always use the clutch where appropriate, so basically if the real car has sequential or flappy paddles I won't use it. Would be nice to have cars where you can shift up without clutch but have to use it when downshifting and match revs (some GT class cars work like this I think?).

I only got the H-shifter a few weeks ago but I practiced heel-toeing a lot with a sequential and clutch so the transition was fairly easy. Getting decent at heel-toeing to corners is immensely satisfying, I've never enjoyed sims as much as I do now. I should renew my iRacing for a month or two to see how much I've improved :p .

Concerning CARS I need to install it to my high end rig again, had all kinds of trouble with it using the weaker pc that has all my older parts in it. Will be nice to crank the settings up and get better framerates.

Questions for disap.ed and _machine:

1. How much of your 1000€ are you confident that you'll get back?
2. Does the possibility of SMS signing with a publisher concern you at all?

Random factoid: NeoGAF members have now invested $6050 in Project CARS

1. I am quite positive that the project will make a profit, it just looks too promising already in this early stage.
2. Not at all, only that it happens too early for me as I wrote above

Thinking of cleaning my private retirement fund now :)

I think I only ever had a problem with a file download twice, maybe three times since joining the project, as far as I recall. Usually it's slow but fine, even on the release day.

You don't need to redownload (the whole file) with bittorrent, you can usually do a hash check and it'll redownload the bad bits. Otherwise, check your ram, maybe it's corrupted... it happened to me on my older computer.

Possibly more if my Team->Full wasn't counted.

Hey, did one of us want to start a GAF group on the WMD website? I had a search and couldn't see one on there, and everyone else has one :(

I sure hope not.

I'm a Team Member i think, the 25€ package.

You can run Memtest to find out, at least ram is cheap right now.
Whoa, RAM is cheap? Unless my motherboard is too old to support the modern stuff, it sounds like a good time to jump up to 8GB then. I had been wanting to do that but memory was really expensive for a while again.

Also sure, feel free to make a group on the WMD website. I didn't even know they exist and I don't normally mess with the friends thing unless someone adds me.

DDR3 is cheap, DDR2 is twice as expensive.
I'm guessing when I research it the answer is going to be "DDR3 is better, but my current motherboard only supports DDR2", in which case I'll just want to wait until I upgrade to an i5 CPU or something and a new motherboard anyway.

Laguna Seca's coming this week:

The words Dry Lake might be a clue.
And on Nordschleife:

I'll let everyone down gently now, before everyone starts wetting themselves...no its not the green hell (...yet). We are holding back on that track in the short term guys, as we would like to explore a few options and things like licensing (especially this track) is horribly slooooow. We have plenty to get on with in the meantime of course. And with the popularity of the track, I'm sure that when we do start working on it, we'll have all the photo & Video reference we could possibly need from our members
Also can't wait for the next meeting now that I'm a manager. Time to start thinking about good ideas for the game...

I still find it weird that it looks like the development on the scratch tracks has somewhat slowed down.

Bathurst and Spa were progressing fast and especially Bathurst didn't seem to have had a lot of updates recently.

Just remember, the last time someone was worried about track progress, we got like, 5 new tracks in a few weeks. :p (or maybe just 3, I forget)

I think they have a limited number of environment artists who are working on whatever they are assigned to at the moment. At least two of them were updating Azure Coast a day or two ago, from what I linked.

On another note, Machine, do you know when the next meeting is?

I love azure and californian highway, but they have some bugs! You know the part at azure where you jump? I jumped so high that i crashed through the track xD

My problem with californian highway are the invisible walls! Driving max speed and then crashing into them is not fun :/

Anyway, seems like Laguna Seca is on its way.

Most of the recent tracks were from the Ferrari Test Drive game so it makes sense that the focus at SMS has shifted (LOL) a little.

The first California highway export is terrifying for that reason, lol. I imagine they will add some barriers and signs for it.

I haven't even tried the reverse Azure Coast course, and I saw someone saying it was even better than normal. It probably won't happen, but it would be awesome if they added roundabouts at one/both ends so you could just drive up and down Azure Coast if you wanted, maybe treating each 14+ minute run as a "lap".

I still don't fully understand the relationship between all the SMS IPs. To the untrained eye (pCARS is the only thing of theirs I've played), they all seem like variants of the same game. Is it just family resemblance? Does each game have totally original assets? Do they own the rights to their own content, or do they just recreate the tracks and cars they've done before?

From what I understand it's this:

They don't own the assets from the Shift series, so they don't use those
They aren't working on the Ferrari game anymore, but it's using the same engine but an older version. They still seem to have rights over the assets.

OK, very interesting. I've been curious about that for a while now.

Our Monza challenge this week is deceivingly hard. I've improved my time a bit but I want to get better before I submit a new time.

It seems so simple, but the fact that it's a relatively easy track means you have to be perfect otherwise all of the small tenths here and there will rape your overall time.

There's a poll right now about whether to rebrand WMD, but apparently it's a foregone conclusion that people want to keep it.

It's an unfortunate acronym that brings to mind terrorists and Iraq these days, in my opinion, but maybe it will be ok.

Yeah, I'm not necessarly a big fan of WMD but then again, the other suggestions were terrible so I voted for statu quo.

My bigger complaint is the design of the page, it just lacks kindness and doesn't really invite people to spend their money there. It just looks too technologized IMO, Kickstarter looks open to everybody for example.

I voted for The Game Foundry.

They're all shit names though. WMD is a stupid acronym to have in this day and age so I think they should change it, TGF was just the best of a bad bunch.

Yeah, they're all kinda shit. Aside from the actual development of the game, there's little that SMS/WMD have done properly... including marketing.

Im getting kind of crappy performance in the game.

I have an i5 750/ AMD 6970 / 8GB RAM

and at everything absolutely maxed (with AA off ) I get like 30-40 fps.

*@ 1920x1080

I see other people with lesser computers and WITH AA on getting 60 fps.. what gives?
