Toonami on right now!? Is this an April Fool's troll?

I don't think there's enough run-five-days-a-week series out there, especially good ones, especially good ones dubbed into english.

I figure you anchor it with a long running series like One Piece or Toriko (or Yu Yu, if we can't get anything new) and play frequently rotating shorter series in the second half of the hour. Run through Outlaw Star's 26 (well, 25) episodes two or three times, then swap it out.

I see it as a single hour thing. Either at midnight in the middle of AS, or right before AS starts in the evening if CN is feeling generous. But this is fantasyland options here.

And so it begins....

The return of TOONAMI and then the greatest Monday Night RAW in years followed up by the possibility of TOONAMI's real return?

Amazing weekend and now week.

I wonder how they would angle it, like the old Toonami towards a middle school ---> high school audience or more like a more anime-focused Adult Swim but with far more class.

Since it seems to be AS that is pushing it, probably more of a college crowd.

On the AS night the ads really did not match up with the content, but I don't think anybody cared. Or to look at it another way they completely fit with the content. It was a dead hour adslot though.

Isn't Adult Swim made up of ex-Toonami guys anyways? I think I read that somewhere.

It's Williams Street, they've done everything from Space Ghost Coast to Coast to Toonami to Adult Swim. Dunno if the same general people are still around, though.

I used to be really into AS way back, on their boards and everything. They always said multiple times through bumps on the network and on the forums when answering viewer questions that subs were not an option.
That was then... this is now

Crunchyroll, niconico, funimation

It's kind of silly that they don't. I bet that could work some sort of deal with crunchyroll and japanese companies to air some subbed anime.

Would they be able to do subtitle shows?

The Anime Network occasionally does this.

I'd like to see Toonami put the following shows and its on its programming block:

- Last Exile & its upcoming new series
- Hellsing Ultimate (unless its heavily censored)
- Broken Blade
- New Beserk
- Monster
- Justice League
- Real Adventures of Johnny Quest
- Dragon Ball

Ah so my pre-stealth edit was right then. Knew I should trust my instincts.

I'm sure at least a couple are still around, and it was probably one of them that proposed this "joke" in the first place.

If Toonami gets brought back, it'd be neat to see it have a web presence, whether it's a live stream or archived episodes. It's the internet that's clamoring for it, so it'd only be fair.

Also I don't have cable =(

I think subs for broadcast are probably not an option. I think though that Toonami might be viable as a streaming site if handled correctly. At that point it starts to tread on regional rights management though.

They used to have a site for that, Toonami Jetstream, before internet streaming was really a Thing. Even had some exclusive shows (Prince of Tennis and Mar, plus Eyeshield 21, I think).

AS has such a huge internet presence, though, that I'd expect a new Toonami to do the same.

I prefer dubbed BY FAR but if for some reason showing subbed episodes is viable/required, I'd watch it to have Toonami back

I have no idea about the financials of broadcast television though, nor subbed anime

Probably too much to ask for right now, but I'd like for Toonami to be on a bit earlier than AS usually is, around 7-8pm. Can't see Toonami being a long term success if it follows AS's model of airing anime at 1-2am.

Edit: A weekday schedule would be awesome eventually, but baby steps.

It'd be awesome if they could air Big O again and I'd freak out if they picked up the newer Golgo 13 series.

It'd be cool if they showed some older stuff too. Personally I think Macross would be a cool addition since they showed Robotech back in the day and a lot of people probably haven't seen the source material.

Even airing a long shonen series now, its just not the same. Who's gonna put up with waiting to see whether Goku turns into a Super Saiyan when kids can just go on the internet and instantly get a new episode? I think the easy availability of shows that already aired in Japan killed anime on US tv..

They would have to come up with some simulcast deals and hope for the best.

Big O is still being shown on Adult Swim. Golgo 13 is actually on Anime News Network. In fact, they just brought it back and its on episode 3 this week.

Which is what I did for Eureka Seven, One Piece, Naruto and many more

Older stuff is always awesome, but they could definitely go for some different or newer shows. I can't count the number of times I've watched Trigun on CN.

Did my part tweeting.

And older crowd Toonami would be boss... it'd be just like when AS first started showing uncut anime on Saturday nights. Oh my lord, I'm about to faint at the possibility of Saturday night Toonami.

Oh sweet. Looks like I might have to start watching that cable subscription my roommates insisted we have...

If they bring it back it needs to be like it was Sunday. DBZ, a good Tenchi, Outlaw Star, Trigun, Blue Sub 6, Yu Yu Hakusho, Big O. If they just stuck Toonami stuff around the anime they're airing now I wouldn't watch it.

bad gameplay lol

They won't abandon all of the stuff they air now. Hell, Bleach brings in crazy ratings compared to the rest of their Saturday lineup. They have to please both crowds. The nostalgia crowd, and the current younger crowd.

I think a mix of classics and newer-ish stuff would be best, if possible. If you had to choose between one or the other, though, gotta go back to 90s anime.

Do you mean Anime that CN is airing or current Anime?

What a "new" Toonami decides to air is dependent on what their target audience and timeslot are. Here are my suggestions:

Young Teen Toonami
- Gundam AGE
- One Piece (Funimation)
- .hack//QUANTUM
- New Rurouni Kenshin
- New Thundercats (actually putting it in a block might save it)
- New Megas XLR (not actually real, but they could make it so)

Older Teen Toonami
- Big O
- Monster
- New Lupin 3rd
- Evangelion X.X: You X (Not) X
- Bleach (wouldn't be a big switch)

Tried to put aside my own favorites (like Shin Chan) in making this list, trying to make sure all the shows suit the feel of Toonami in some ways.

They should also punch Nick in their face and steal back Dragon Ball any way they can. And I said before in this thread, they intermix their old shows whenever they run out of the new stuff. Yuyu Hakasho, old Rurouni Kenshin, old Megas, etc.

They should also finance a new Big O series.

I think they should just keep regular adult swim and then just replace Saturday nights with Toonami

Also they should air the new Funi dub of One Piece

I would use a potential television programming block as a loss leader to promote a simulcast or on-demand service. I honestly don't know enough about revenue though...

That's the most likely outcome. They'd probably still have AS initially with the usual Family Guy and Boondocks, then switch over to Toonami around midnight. They can skip the AS replay to get more shows in.

Agreed. If the can strike a balance of new and older shows it would be perfect. I am a huge Tiger Bunny fan and I would love to see that series make it on Toonami (if they ever get around to the english dub).
