Xbox World Rumor: Xbox 720 Devkit Specs Detailed, Includes 16-Core Processor

Well, people were saying they should make next gen consoles future proof right?

Maybe by 2018 or so 16-core CPUs would be the norm >___>

So, according to the rumors, MS is going all out with the Duranto and... Sony will be even more powerful, but have less RAM? The next gen is going to be ballistic.

It’s a ridiculous amount of power for a games machine – too much power, even

It's going to be a wild ride before we even get to this years E3 with all these rumors.

Rumor would've been more fun if they said it had one core.

It was a living brain, endless processing capabilities if you code to the "metal".

I am curious as to the cost to make the console and the retail price they will set. This is going to be interesting. Surely Microsoft will have some sensibility and not go in balls deep like sony did with the PS3.

Regarding the 16 cores, I wonder if they actually mean 16 threads. IF the other rumors of a 6-core CPU is correct, and each core possibly has 4 threads, this could equal 16 threads for gaming. Also according to the other rumor, an entire core is dedicated to Kinect, which could equal 4 threads instead of 4 cores as it's read in this rumor.

Edit:

looks like I was beaten by wabo. =p

Discrete sources at GDC also confirmed to the publication that developers expect Sony’s Playstation 4 to be more powerful than the next Xbox, and that various studios are aiming to unveil their next generation software at E3 2012 in June, regardless of whether “Microsoft and Sony are ready or not.”

Man these rumors just flip flop constantly. I just hope we'll learn all we need to know by the time they launch. If both launch in 2013, I don't care to get the weaker console at launch.

Far ahead of gaming PCs? Really?

Don't believe this for a second.

I hope this rumor is true. Can't wait until we start to get official specs and screenshots...

They said they "expect" the PS4 to be more powerful... so they have no idea.

As if all the Wii U "news" was bad enough. E3 is going to be so much fun.

wow 16 cores? this will be faster than PCs!

If true they would be very simple cores, an i5 would run rings around it in most cases. I doubt the tumor is true, they cannot afford the heat or space for 16 real cores.

How much money was Sony losing per console when they launched?

It wouldn't be hard to have all the cores working in tandem. Efficiency, however, is another matter. :p

Well obviously. The gall they have to publish the phrase implying that is hilarious - day one maxed out system
