What site do you use to "test" the Internet?

Does anybody else do this. You think the Internet is down but maybe a few sites are just slow or something. So you go to the one website that you use to "test" the Internet. You would never go to this website for any other reason, so it can't possibly be loading from your cache. Therefore, the Internet must be down.

So GAF, what website have you deemed otherwise so useless that you use it to "test" the Internet?

Mine is Yahoo.

I usually just ping google.com from the command line. Or if it's some other device, I just visit google.com. I refresh just to make sure it isn't cached.

Tiny Cartridge, which is far from useless. I read it via Google Reader usually, and I've gotten into the habit of using it to test the internet. I find that it's a lot cooler feeling when it comes up than something like Yahoo or CNN.

I usually ping google from the terminal.

If that doesn't work, I ping 8.8.8.8 just to see if it's just DNS (which is dumb, I realize, because that's the DNS server I use...)

I still ping yahoo via command. I have never even thought about it, but damn. Probably time to change that a bit.

Google. It has a very simple front page so I can easily tell if the internet is totally down or if it's just a little slow for some reason.

When internet is down my homepages never load, so if I am wondering I just hit the home button on my browser.

are pages still cached to that extent?

To check if I have a connect, Google, loads up fast, has a low ping.

For suspected DNS issues, I'll connect to mumble (Followed by changing back to the Google DNS)

For checking my ping and packet loss, I'll ping google.com 100 times to see if the issues are my connection, or just the server I'm connected too. For bandwidth, I use speedtest.com.
