On the bright-side if MAPPA turns out to be a success; we won't haft to mourn MADHOUSE loss any more, unless they end up being a another MANGLOBE. (lol)

Haiyore Nyaruko-san 1

sooooooo [REDACTED].

Thank you Envelope for introducing this anime to me, my life is now complete.

<3 <3 <3 my one true ahoge~

Asumi Kana's voice fit Nyaruko so well. We just need a nishishishi~ and I'll be in the hospital.

Also, I liked the music direction. Nothing like Latin chanting in the "dramatic" moments. and it's apparently by Monaca, whose members also did Nier's OST. Fancy that.

My work here is done~

I guess Madhouse did do High School of The Dead. I guess they aren't completely dead.

Don't forget, they still have a second season of HSoTD to make!

Don't worry. I'm sure Apollon will sell in Japan about as well as Watanabe's other works.

Bagi, the Monster of Mighty Nature

As touched upon before, this is a made for tv movie written by Osamu Tezuka after Japan approved recombinant DNA research in 1984. Bagi is a human/cat hybrid that grows up not knowing her past but her attachment to her previous owner, Ryu, results in them crossing paths again and setting off on a journey to find out the truth of her past. It carries a theme that mankind and unchecked science make for a dangerous combination and uses some strong visuals in the laboratory environment in the middle of the film to portray this.

As much as I'm loathe to phrase it this way, this movie hasn't aged well. The character animation is inconsistent with malformed faces and Bagi herself being at least four different colors, the cuts for commercials are really distracting (and reminded me of older Chuck Jones made for TV projects for reason I can't quite put my finger on), and overall it's in dire of need of editing as there's a lot of bizarre scenes that don't really enhance the overall product but rather detract. In particular, there's quite a few innocent scenes that almost feel uncomfortable when taken out of context which is more the onus of the viewer than the creators and it's a pity too because there's really a touching story to be found in Bagi but it's mired under many, many problems.

Example of inconsistency as the main character is apparently a hunchback in this shot.

Bagi in her youth.

Movie took a weird stylistic shift twice where things became more cartoony even when attending to a serious matter.
I'm still a neophyte and ignorant in the ways of AnimeGAF and as such my vocabulary isn't quite up to snuff what with your ahoges, ahegaos, NTRs, DFCs, and moe but does this constitute waifu material?

Bebop selling badly in Japan is a common misconception based on the fact that Bebop sold really, really well in America. So saying it sold better in America than Japan gives the false impression that it sold badly in Japan.

XEBEC has really outdone themselves with this one. The doujin/toku/manga references in this show is so blatantly obvious. How do they keep getting away with this stuff? But... why is ATOKO not there!?

Yeah, the benefit of waiting for it to air actually dissipated a bit with the drop in production values. I'll probably start reading now.

Yeah, this is turning out to be a rather unfaithful adaptation, which would be fine if it could stand on its own, but it doesn't seem like it can. I'll probably watch to the end, but boy is it a disappointment, especially considering a totally off the wall insane arc probably won't be animated.

Having a really hard time with Madoka's personality shift. She was fine before with letting them pilot by themselves now she's mad that they left her behind. She really has issues letting go.

I do think it's standing on its own, but I've never read the manga to create the dissonance. I was avoiding doing so, initially, but rather be in the world where
Akemi lives.

Araragi, what is your wonderful voice doing in my puzzle anime.

Anyway, they did a great job getting right to the action and plot this time around, though not having to go through the initial setup phases of a new series probably helped a bit. Loved the little hi-five Ana gave to the oblivious Gammon when they first met up.

Those earrings are clearly evil.

Sounds like whoever Freecell's "Nana" is will be important eventually. Looking forward to more of this while it stays fast-paced.

Phi Brain S2 1

I don't really understand how the routes and movement in the mirror puzzle work, but it was pretty tense nonetheless. Some Indiana Jones shit at the end there.

I can tell this season is really going to jack up the scale. It seems like there will be rivals for each of the title holders. Considering each has a different specialty, I imagine that means there's going to be more variety in the puzzles (and season 1 had plenty variety). More characters doing stuff is usually a good thing, so I'm excited.

Also, I really love the OP.

New op rocks and brain diver sucks. I feel Hiroshi Kamiya for Freecell is quite jarring, doesn't fit the character at all.

I heard(?) Sato Junichi isn't doing S2 not to mention the way puzzles are presented in the future are more badass than usual.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

So I had this long diatribe about how this series had setup a perfect universe for a full fledged 26 episodes if not a good 50 and how they were wasting all of it. Then last thing I see after I had come to accept that not all stories get told to their proper climax, I see the second season announcement.

The show itself is amazing on multiple levels, the color palette, the music, the characters, the universe(the different factions), and even the story. The characters themselves are relatively spunky and have a certain personality to them. Their chemistry of each other was very enjoyable to watch such as Muginami trolling Lan. It's a very solid entry and did a great job with developing the friendship between the three. The music was pretty memorable with the synths and didn't seem out of place anywhere.

The biggest problem I have with the show is twofolds. The first is that it feels incomplete. The second is a bit more substantial. Madoka has a bit of a 180 and chases after her friends in a sequence where it seems she can't let go. I was hoping she was learning to trust on other people but that whole bit seems counter to that.
