The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

Need help identifying an iOS game, GAF. It came out about two weeks ago. It's a puzzle-platformer for iPAD. 2d French-like artstyle. Weird sci-fi meets fantasy meets Moebius world. You're not playing a human character, and i *think* that it's a metroidvania style game. Saw it on a message board that I can't recall, and the threads move far too quickly on all of the message boards for me to hunt and peck through.

I know that the description is very vague, but somebody else might have seen it? I think it was 2.99....

Gave into the Gunman Clive hype. I'm with the fiancé for now, so I'll give it a shot when she passes out haha. Really quite excited!

Description doesn't sound like anything I recall, but this is the most talked about platformer of recent.

What the shit is this? I must have it!

Screens look pretty goddamn dope ...

Gratuitous Space Battles is a good game, I wouldn't say it's worth 10 bucks though. It was in one of the Humble Bundles a couple of weeks ago.

You create a couple of ships (choose a model, add weapons and misc gear), choose a number of ships (the limit is a number chosen by the mission), and create a formation. You can "program" the ships a little by adding behaviors. You have no control over the ships once the mission starts. You just watch the show.

There's multiplayer too, each player creates a formation and the result is generated.

My dad made a game by himself using the GameSalad engine, it's probably not GAF's cup of tea but maybe some of you will be interested.

Also wrote a blog post on how it was made if any of you are looking to get into iOS development without any real programming knowledge:

Thanks guys.

Good blog post, bought the game to support a dream. Thanks for the inspiration!

This sounds like Waking Mars (which is most excellent!)

ahahaha.

Yeah... not enjoying the whole freemium angle gamevil is going these days even though all there games are easily exploitable to 'succeed' without buying iap.

Baseball Superstars 2011 was the best 99 cents I've ever spent. Didn't buy any microtransactions, and never felt the need to do so. Gamevil's one of the companies doing the freemium thing right.

EDIT: Doh, for some reason I replied to something from months ago.

Anyway, just curious - is it frowned on here for devs to trade promo codes for "survey" data? Like just personal responses to what folks think about certain genres, virtual controls, etc.

2011 was fine. II was ok. 2012... was huh.

It's really damn hard to do well unless you cheese the game. And the new art is high res... but looks terrible.

I got Amoebattle off freemyapps since it's $4.99 and I'm sure Max Payne will be on sale for $0.99 in a few weeks considering it's EA. I'll play it uh...sometime.

YES!!!!!!!!!
And BOUGHT. I've been following this game's development for iPad for a YEAR!

FANTASTIC game. This man is wrong. There are TWO games that I"ve paid ten bucks for. Both are excellent. Both by ONE MAN teams. Both strategy. Land Air Sea Warfare is one, and now THIS.

Anyone heard of or tried a roguelike that came out this week called Zaga 33?

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/zaga-33/id516903940?mt=8

It feels a bit more like a puzzle game than a rogue like. You progress through room after room, each time trying to avoid as many enemies as possible. You start with 9 hp, and get 1 back each time you clear a room. There are no exp, weapons, armor, potions, etc. The only thing to pick up are powerups, the effects of which are randomized with each new game.

For $.99 it's not a bad little game, but it doesn't come anywhere close to 100 Rogues or Sword of Fargoal

That sounds good. Being more of a puzzle game actually sounds appealing.

I know dash is into the cave games, just wondering who else in here is playing the cave shumps? It would be great to discus the games with some of you guys, I wonder if we could make a iOS cave OT. Damn it's so addicting my battery on my phone is always dead lol.

We've already got a Cave megathread, having a separate one exclusively for iOS seems a bit excessive to me.

Here's a question about GSB: does it include the Campaign that was released on the PC sku as DLC?

Err so I was just using freemyapps.com and redeemed Infinity Blade. I actually already own the game and wanted to just grab the redeem code so I could give it away. However the App Store just redeemed the code again (because I had recently auth-ed to download some updates). WTF LOL

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
The Tiny Monsters app from freemyapps is actually kinda making me angry, it's SUCH a blatant copy of Dragonvale. Different element-dragons that you breed on floating islands and that live in habitats and you can buy decorations. You cross-breed to make others. IT'S THE SAME FRIGGIN' GAME. I hate it when devs do that, wish freemyapps wouldn't support that.

I anyone else playing Motoheroz?

I know how much gaffers love Trials HD and this is by REDLYNX, it's kids of defferent and not as technical but it's a lot of fun trying to beat the ghosts and find the chests (really creative design)... physics feel similar to Trials HD, just isn't kick your arse hard and there are different vehicles and terrain which makes each stage feel new.

well worth the dolla I paid for it

Dynamite Shikoku

Congratulations, you really deserve it!

Yeah, been playing this every single day for a few months and it's incredible.

I'm really tempted to start an OT but I fear it'll just end up being totally fucked with spoilers, and it's the worst game in the world to have spoiled.

I downloaded the light version and it seemed pretty easy, is there enough there to keep it entertaining? I recognised either the quote or the film title fairly easily and from then it was just a matter of going through the motions. Do they get trickier?

They vary. Some days are really easy, some days are really, really hard. They've taken me anywhere from between 35 seconds and 50 minutes to solve.
