Sold PS3, feel relieved

I love having a huge backlog. It means that whenever I'm in the mood to play a certain kind of game, I have a variety to choose from. I don't HAVE to play the last game I bought to completion if I'm not feeling like it. Just because I don't feel like playing something right now, or even for many years, doesn't mean I'm not going to play it in the future. *has games she owned for ten years before completing*

I guess I had a similar situation round 2008...already had 360, bought a PS3 for Killzone 2...decided partly that I just didn't like owning two consoles, felt too disorganized and too much backlog, sold it. Course, recently my brother became my roomate, and he has a PS3 that is basically mine since he never uses it, and I've done ok with that (I mostly stick to 360 anyway, dislike PS3 controller).

See all my life I've strictly owned one console at a time. Always (even went back and forth between SNES and Genesis, even had a Jaguar as my sole console, sold it for a 32X, etc!. When I was a kid it was out of necessity, I had to sell one to finance getting another. But today now that I can afford multiple consoles, I've found I dont enjoy it, one is just simpler.

The worst was being a sole console owner when long droughts came along, like the Jaguar, the N64 (worst ever for droughts imo, if only cause at least I realized the Jaguar mistake quickly and didn't stick with it, and even the Xbox 1 really)

That said, I've begun to fight against the whole backlog thing weighing on my mind. It can become quite OCD like. If I dont want to play something, I try to not play it, and try to control my mind such that I dont feel obligated too.

Just don't buy games until you finish your backlog. And honestly, 15 games is nothing. I already finished five games this month. (I work and haven't had a vacation this month so this isn't a special month.)

tell that to me and the ps2. i still haven't even bought every ps2 game i want yet. :(
Obviously talking about this gen and if you had your console for a while.

If you go back to a console you missed out on, of course there's whole libraries you haven't played yet. But I don't really consider that a backlog, more like a gap in canon gaming knowledge or something.

I started to feel like this with 3DS. Today I'll sell my PSP with something like a 10 backlog games. My intention is only own PC, PS3 and VITA, I have an insane amount of unplayed games of those last two. I don't know what I will do when PS4 or 720 comes out :S.

i've bought (at least) a few ps2 games every year since like 2000. i'm never going to be able to stop buying ps2 games.

Talking of backlogs, I doubt I'll ever play all the games I want to play, even if no new games were released from today onwards.

There must be hundreds of decent games I've never touched.

i guess i can agree with this...but that's still a backlog. imagine if you were a PC/PS3/handheld gamer and bought a 360 today, you'd have a terrible backlog.

i just cant abide dudes like the OP cause - and my personal backlog is at an all-time high at in the 20's - but take the Vita. it's a good looking system that ill buy eventually, but there's not 5 games i really want on it yet, so why buy it? unless i see a stupid-cheap deal, and even then, id not sell it just to rebuy it later when it had more games i wanted.

i think the only system i ever did that for was the original gameboy: i bought shit games after mario land, sold it for game gear money as a kid, then metal gear: ghost babel, link's awakening, metroid 2 and tons of shit i missed out on came out. it's now my 3DS backlog.

What's wrong about having a big backlog? Isn't it nice to know that you'll never be without games to play between big releases? My backlog is gigantic. Feels good. :)

I don't understand. But I don't understand the obsession with backlogs in the first place.
What if you just play a game out of fifteen and enjoy it? What is bad in this?
Anyway, to each their own...it just seems overreaction to me :)

Some sort of strange stealth PS3 sucks thread? lol.

Would have just sold the games, if you can't or don't want to keep up with your backlog either don't buy more games or sell those you will never play.
Can't say I would ever sell a console just to get rid of the backlog, I've got a pretty big backlog going back to the Snes.

Never for backlog reasons. I've sold systems because I wasn't touching them and wanted to reclaim the space they were using.

I haven't completed mario galaxy 2. Sometimes I just stare at the Wii but for some reason I can't bring myself to put the disc in. Then I remember I've got DKCR to play too AND endless ocean 2... oh fuck!

There's nothing wrong with having a infinite backlog, I mean you do know it's literally impossible to play every single "good" game out there with your limited life span? heck even if you were immortal it would be still a stretch:p
Kaim of Lost Odyssey cried when he read your post.

Of course he plays GAF: The Game (Dream Edition)

Just put then on your hard drive. Never have to use disks again.

I didn't beat the first game I ever owned until last week! (Sonic Triple Trouble for Game Gear)

I have games that I've owned for longer, but I haven't finished them yet! Hmm, I think the oldest is Wild Arms that I bought when I was 14.

Could have just hidden the games in a cupboard and pretended you beat them, or sell the unfinished games, but I guess selling everything works too.

lol

I don't think I even have a "backlog" in the way people are talking about here. I own dozens of games I haven't finished, and some I haven't even started, but whether or not I eventually get around to that doesn't really matter to me. I don't think it's entirely sane to sell hardware with the express purpose of depriving yourself of the option of playing some games.

I have a backlog of 30+ on PS2 alone and that didn't prompt me to sell it, now my PS3 is nearing 15 as well but I could never sell either, they're just my fave consoles ever and each and every game is based on careful research and love.

I wanted to paint a wall in my house for a while now but I kept postponing it so I burned the whole house down to stop worrying about it.

Hey gaf,
Over the new year someone did me the favor of breaking in and stealing my PS3 and all my 360 and PS3 games. Sure it sucked but I feel so freeeeeeee.
Thanks anonymous thief! Made my day :)

While I play the occasional disc game, my ps3 is basically an hd pc-engine and ps1 player. I've bought so much stuff from the japanese psn store, I wouldn't want to sell the system! Also, it's a white console, which looks pretty rad.

would have simply sold the games if they were that much of a bother. can't see me selling my ps3 for backlog alone. Now a YLOD problem and 2 dead bluray drives might drive some people to sell their 3's, but a sucker like me just get's it replaced.....

Switched to fulltime PC gamer but my kids still enjoy the consoles.

Uh.... I don't have a 360 so I have a huge backlog no matter what. Owning one would be better to at least rent games every now and then. The issue would be buying games I'm not going to play or being poor.
