I think fans make a big deal out of Miyamoto's retirement

allow the guy to retire on top, before he starts giving us disappointments
Fresh Ideas at Nintendo and new directions can be positive for the companies future

I think he should do this sooner than later because I doubt Nintendo games will suddenly suck without him. Too many talented people work there

True.. he's worked there for, what, decades now? His influence, the design decisions he's made, the people he has taught.. his fingerprints are going to be on Nintendo's games even after he's gone.

No, seriously... what has happened within the past weekend... which, amazingly spurred 50 pages of content? lol

Well this huge reveal happened where we all found out everyone here is actually working for Nintendo. Most of us got our minds wiped and the posts got deleted, so this was at like 100 pages, once.

Bingo MMO.

Actually, think of an elderly gamedesigner...

You know the old Interplay leitmotiv: "By Gamers, For Gamers"

Imagine a gaming Nintendo Brand: "By Seniors, For Seniors", with tons of software aimed to maintain brain activity, fight against degenerative diseases like Alzheimer, in a FUN way (less sanitized than Brain Age).

Some attempts have been made, through pc & mobile applications, since several years, but they tend towards serious gaming, with a too much methodical, clean, and mathematical approach. There's a huge potential market here !

Oh crap, IdeaMan hit again !

I think pikmin 3 is going to make a lot of people say "holy shit" very loudly.

I wouldn't be surprised either if it forgoes a hyper-realistic art style for something more abstract that's simply jaw dropping.

Miyamoto's long awaited new IP, inspired by his recent hobby of weekly visits to a swimming pool, is an aqua-aerobics title for the Vitality Sensor.

If there's any game that's perfect for Nintendo to use to prove they can come out and do realism right alongside the best of 'em, it's Pikmin 3. Huge missed opportunity if they go any other route.

That's precisely why I think they'll go a completely different route. Cuz its effin nintendo.

And really, I think something like a hyper realisic metroid, zelda, or eternal darkness would have a bigger impact on the people who care about realistic graphics.

Pikmin needs detailed realism for reasons that have nothing to do with having something to prove. It keeps the cartoony and fantastic design for the bugs grounded in something more mundane.

Of course Pikmin 3 was going to be at E3. C'mon. If a new Mario was going to be there, Pikmin 3 sure damn had to be, it being worked on since 2008.

The centrepiece of Nintendo's line-up for this year is Pikmin 3. Featuring a stunning realistic art style, it is the most expensive game in the history of EAD, and the resource drain its development has caused means that there will unfortunately be no other first party games available at Wii U launch. Iwata explains that to ensure a return on this investment, Nintendo will be backing the game with the biggest marketing campaign in the history of video games. He wants Pikmin to be a very big deal, and so they will be seen on every street corner, in print media, and on television, in every major market of the world. Strategic partnerships have been made with Coca-Cola and Burger King. This alone is not enough to ensure mass appeal, and so certain improvements have been made to the series formula so as to better appeal to the audience that made Call of Duty such a success.

And bring back the brand names please. That was the most delightful advertising exploitation ever.

75% of that is okay by me. I'd love to see them market the shit out of Pikmin; it'd do well especially because of the cute factor.

If there's one game franchise that I wouldn't mind casuals having influence over its Pikmin.

They'd get made fun of more than praised once again.

Shameful age we live in.

No, the first time i come up with this idea, the discussion made me think of it :)

Miyamoto in the El Mundo interview said:
I'm working on several projects but I think I can not speak for all [laughs]. Some are small but important projects for Wii U. Also a new 'Pikmin', which will use high-resolution images of the console, and a Luigi's Mansion for 3DS.

It could hint to a visually realistic Pikmin

Despite being seen as somewhat niche, I think Pikmin could do surprisingly well if they gave it a big marketing campaign now. We've come a long way since the Gamecube.

Precisely. There's something downright whimsical about seeing those little critters carrying a Duracell battery or a single Chapstick down a tiny, leafy forest trail. Pikmin is one of those series that has potential to be very iconic, and easily-recognizeable even to non-gamers.

It's my fervent hope that Nintendo takes this ball and runs hard with it.

Regarding the whole Wii U Music thing mentioned a while back, what they need to do is put in the Music Maker from Mario Paint. Heck, release it as its own app and I buy it day one.

Oh shit, Pikmin broke GAF for a moment, there.

Nintendo Ninja's turned off GAF's server because IdeaMan was about to drop a Pikmin hint!

I am not hyped for Pikmin for some reason I never really found this game exciting
I am still curious to see what has become of it but I wish we were looking at something Newer

Pikmin isn't really the high-octane sort of excitement type of game. For me it was always a relaxing, whimsical game with a bit of time urgency. Can't really describe the feeling of strategically being obsessed with getting all the ship parts and experimenting what you can do with the Pikmin. Also, the horrible feeling you get at first when a few die, and later not giving many fucks.

That's how I always felt about Pikmin. It has potential to be just as iconic as many of Nintendo's other franchises.
