What the hell is going on? Why is there a kid who looks exactly like Tenchi and lives in the same town but isn't related to him? Why is he pretending to ride a broken bike? Why is the only familiar character we see the back of Ryoko's head? What does the X in GXP stand for? Why is this called Tenchi Muyo if he isn't the main character and as far as I can tell isn't even in it?

Forgot to respond to this. The protagonist is Tenchi's cousin. You also see more of the original cast later in the series.
