*NO BOOK SPOILERS* Game of Thrones - Season 2 - Sundays on HBO (read rules in OP)

This brings up something I am confused about despite reading the books.
What is the ruling on succession for bastard born children? Up until now I had assumed that it was first to legitimate sons, then to legitimate daughters, then to siblings, then to uncles and aunts. Wasn't the point of getting rid of the bastard children of Robert just to remove suspicion about Joffrey not being Robert's son?

Answering that is different depending on which thread you are in. For the purposes of this thread, we have no information on the rules of succession. It has been discussed in the other thread, so ask over there or PM me.

It is unclear what the motivation was. It could have been the black hair, but I believe it also implies competing claimants to the throne, especially if Joffrey's legitimacy is questioned.

We have no idea what the brotherhood is. Gregor is the Mountain. He was there at Harrenhold and the other brother is the Hound. Nobody is looking for them, they're just joking about their names. The Mountain, The Hound, obviously they are the The Brotherhood

Fine. The show hasn't told you what happened to Beric Dondarrion.

Gendry doesn't have a claim to the throne. Jon's story arc makes it clear that bastards don't get shit (conversation between Jon and Tyrion) and have a huge stigma surrounding them. Furthermore, Ned in season 1 says that the next in line is Stannis, and then Renly. He doesn't mention any of Robert's bastards.

yes. His entire demeanor is different, in addition to his face

What happened to the forces that were supposed to kill him in Season 1?

I must have missed something, there were people sent to kill Gregor Clegane? I know that after Tyrion was captured by Catelyn's sister, that the Lannisters sent Gregor and some other knights to terrorize villages in the Vale.

But now that the Lannisters have the throne, who could be hunting down Gregor?

In season 1, when Robert went of to hunt and left Ned in charge, he has an audience with some riverland peasants who said that Gregor was pillaging their villages. We saw earlier that Tywin sent Gregor to do that as revenge due to Catelyn capturing Tyrion.

After Ned hears the peasants' cries for help, he commands Berric Dondarion to go and bring the king's justice to Gregor.

I remember that, but how come in the Lannister prison camps they keep asking the prisoners if they know where "The Brotherhood" is (referencing The Hound and The Mountain)?

Either Berric Dondarion is dead or he was ordered to back off by the Lannisters when the throne was handed over. It doesn't make sense for the interrogator in the Lannister prison camp to ask everybody if they know where Clegane is (there is no reason for him to hide from the Lannisters).

WOW, this season is finally getting some action done.

damn that last thing at the end... some demonic child for sure.

Guessing that king of light guy is possesed by the lady of fire, acting all crazy towards his brother.

I have a feeling we will see her get killed and the king stanis will be good and help kill all those fucking lannisters.

Anyone notice how Renly looks like Rody Walker from Protest the Hero?

Wrong, he looks like professional Starcraft 2 player Steven "Destiny" Bonnell III

Marvelous ep. As someone pointed out earlier, the fact that the show is generally so low-key and down-to-earth makes all the fantastical stuff that much harder-hitting. Every time something out of the norm happens, it just has so much more impact because of how scarcely that sort of thing is depicted.

The show upped the creepy by a factor of 10. Both the Joffrey's scene and the red witches one was very uncomfortable to watch.

Also Tyrion remains a boss. Bronn too.

Good episode but I kinda wish it would pick up the pace a bit. So much build up and deception but very little seeing the outcomes and consequences.

I agree.

Some more action please, we know that they are backstabbing bitches who will do anything for money or titles.

Whatever the consequences are to the various sub-plots, they're likely to be very dire. They have to take their time and build up to that sort of thing for maximum impact.

They wimped out on showing the actual battle again. We just saw the aftermath with the wounded etc.

Budget constraints, I assume.

The sister of mercy-type woman who amputated the foot was hot. Real hot. Too good for Rob.

Next episode: A plane crashes on the island with 48 survivors.

Couldn't help myself

But in all seriousness: good episode. I like that old Lannister dude (I forget his name). Seems like a smart guy, and it will make for an interesting chain of events, now that Arya is with him.

And what was up with Joffrey: is he into S&M or something? Or is he just trying to send a message to Tyrion?

Yep, we're not gonna see any big battlefield action. Expect at best small fights like what happened last week with Yoren. Maybe we'll have a CG of that shadow warrior jumping on someone but that's it.

Personally, I came in expecting the usual medieval warfare -- had no idea about anything except it was a medieval fantasy -- but now I'm very satisfied just watching the drama and plotting.

There's so much, though, 10 episodes a year is torture. This show will be at its best when all seasons are watched back to back (assuming it doesn't go downhill along the way).

He's a cowardly sadist who wanted to communicate his displeasure at being emasculated in front of everyone by Tyrion.
I think that he is officialy being labeled a psychopath at this point.

It was funny because what Bronn & Tyrion was saying made a lot of sense. That scene was brutal especially since I at first thought the hooker was going to be raped with that thing. I felt much guilt at going "Phew, she just being brutally hit with it"

I also think that if Joffrey dies (Considering everyone is gunning for him...), the show wants to make sure the audience feels no sympathy for him.

They are saving their best for first and last episodes. I was impressed by the scale of the battlefield.

BTW, this was my favorite episode this season. It had everything and everyone except for the now classic Cercei/Tyrion conversations.

The opening scene of of Robb and the Lannister soldiers is great. It humanized in 2 different instances the Lannisters and his conversation with his lieutinant indicated they could be just as cruel.

I think the issue with the bastards and killing them is that it's apparent that all of Robert's offspring have similar traits as him (black hair and blue eyes) as where Joffrey/Myrcella/Tommen are all blond. So you're right in that it's not a claim to legitimacy for the throne for the bastards, but a claim to illegitimacy for the throne regarding Cersei's children, in my opinion.

The Brotherhood isn't the Hound and the Mountain, that was just a joke earlier in the thread that is now confusing the shit out of everyone.

We don't know who "the Brotherhood" is.

This show's nude scenes just get more and more uncomfortable.

They're always good for a laugh (seeing as they're just getting more and more ridicules every time), but seriously, they don't think anything worthwhile to the show and I'd rather they'd just leave them out altogether. Oh well, I suppose there are some people out there who like these sort of things.

Wow truely WTF at that ending.

Also I always knew that Joffrey was twisted but now I think hes mentally ill.

There was so much fucked up stuff in this episode. The amputation. Killing the prisoners using the bucket and rat technique (where have I seen this before?).
Tyrion was awesome as per usual.

oh I cant wait for the moment when they behead Joffrey, I never wanted a character to die so much. I think If I ever saw this kid in real life I would punch him in the face.

I wonder whether Tyrion was hoping Joffrey would be intimidated by the women in his room, almost as a punishment for his treatment of Sansa. Turns out he is more interested in torture and power than sex - he is truly evil. I enjoy watching Tyrion twist his arm though so I dont want Joff to go anywhere soon, as much as I hate him.

This is what i get out of it. They are merely circumstantial evidence to the notion that Robert could not father blond kids. You disprove that by only having his blonde kids live.

I personally think that Tyrion think Joffrey is crazy. I don't think it donned on him that he would injure his future wife and was really trying to find a way to release some tof that pent up energy.

I think he went about it wrong, but it wasn't really his plan. If it were his plan, it would have been flawless lol.

Joffrey is truly one of the first tv show characters in a long time that actually has me grinding my teeth. I guess it's a testament to the casting/actor but I absolutely hate him. I would be satisfied with any character who rips his head off but I would feel especially satisfied if it were Arya in the end who takes him out.

Tyrion continues to be my favorite character. Truly the only Lannister with at least some compassion. I loved the look on his face when that one guard asked if Tyrion was threatening him (or something to that effect) and he tells Bronn to kill him if he tries something again and he says "now that's a threat". Love the guy.

Finally some Dany in this episode. I still feel a little uneasy for her and her dragons. Maybe things will go fine for her and Jorah and the rest in Qarth. I was left scratching my head at the end like others here. Melisandre disrobes and she's suddenly pregnant and giving birth to some shadow spirit/demon. :0 What the hell?

So I'm glad you guys liked the rollercoaster action in this episode. I'd go into more detailed explanation about the Brotherhood, but I'm not a Cornballer approved helper. Somebody get it straight for once. Also, methinks you guys could use a map to see where Harrenhal is: Look under the Tully gray trout tail.

Edit: Also the Dorne (the orange part at the bottom) is where Tyrion is sending his niece Myrcella for protection.
