It looks like Walmart's running Goggle ads that list the Wii U at $349. Apparently, it did the same for Wii before the official price was announced. Who knows, it could still end up being $299.

http://wiiudaily.com/2012/04/walmart-sets-wii-u-price-at-350/

I don't think Nintendo even knows what the price is going to be yet. Sure, they have a range.. but they've confirmed they won't be announcing price at E3. They'll likely be using post-E3 time to gauge interest and consumer value.

I'm honestly not even in the mood, just know that I deeply disagree with just about everything you said, up to and including Konami being in gaming because they own fitness centres and shit.

Just know it :p

And if you can't see how much japanese support PS3 got then you're flat out blind, simple as that. But I'll give guek the benefit of the doubt and assume he never looked into it much and wouldn't know. But they did get more japanese support. Lots more.

As for the reasons why, it's all semantics, point is they had it, and currently have it, and if the trajectory is pointing in any direction, it's them continuing to have it.

Care to make a wager on that? You can even name the stakes.

Nintendo will hit a pricing problem with the WiiU no matter when they do it... they just better not price is based on Post-E3 Hype to "gauge interest and consumer value" because that would be a huge mistake

best thing they can do is price it in a way they make no more than $10 on each hardware sold or cut even without losing money

leave no room to cut prices

I'd be pretty comfortable if they were around break-even for their hardware. If the cost of manufacturing their hardware drops to the point where they can get away with a price drop around the time when the PS720 launch, even better!
(and if Super Mario Galaxy 3 can arrive at the same time, even better better!)

I sincerely doubt it. Lemme look-up when they started for the Wii..
(edit: end of October. According to a news article, they ran out of pre-order stock on/around November 1st)

after waiting all this time for Wii HD this console's launch better not be another Wii search sold out in all states mess where you need websites to tell you which store has them in stock

that was crazy, even though it would be great for Nintendo let it happen after I get my WiiU home before the casual lemmings get it to go viral

No scavenger hunt for me this time; I did that with the Nintendo 64, and will never do it again. I drove from small town to small town all over Mississippi one weekend after launch until I finally found a console. I'm going with the tried and true method this time around..

I'm finally settling-in after a move, and find that my new place is about five blocks away from a GameStop. As long as they are doing a midnight launch, I'll end-up camping out there on the night before pre-orders open-up.

For the Wii, getting a preorder one month before Launch Day proved to make for the most drama-free Launch Day ever; I ended-up showing-up to GameStop about fifteen minutes before midnight with my pre-order receipt, and was home by 1AM. No fuss, no muss.

lucky... I'm about 10 miles away from one but I don't have a car
I'm thinking Amazon but I might just go to gamestop just so I can give all my money at once if its over $300

really?
I wouldn't count the chickens before they roost and lose their Flying secondary type.
It's unproven whether the tablet is really going to work that ninty magic.

A tablet is only as good as its apps/games. Even before you think about Android and iOS developers getting in one the action (and rumour has it that they've been courting these developers) you're going to have a myriad of indie developers plying their trade thanks to the free middleware that Nintendo are providing.

The U is going to fly off shelves worldwide, if anyone reading this has the spare cash I suggest you buy shares because the share price will go up when the 3DS becomes profitable, when NSMB 2 is released, when the U is released and sells gangbusters and will rocket once Nintendo release a Pokemon game using NFC.

Amazon is a good route if you don't "need" it on Day 1. For the Wii, pre-orders actually lasted a few hours (which seems like an eternity), so if you're good with keeping track of when their pre-ordering process actually begins, you're pretty much guaranteed to get what you want!

I know that feel.
That's why handhelds are garbage when you have, y'know, a family.

It especially sucks with Mario Kart. I didn't buy two more copies so my brothers and I can enjoy the full game. I hate always playing as Shy Guy, so I don't even play the game at all. I use it mainly for single player titles.

a lot of games this week huh?

Sonic Racing is kinda silly not to have a WiiU version announced when everyone seems to feel it is a given that there is a WiiU version

this no WiiU version thing is getting old

There will be a Wii U version, I can feel it. Haven't Sonic games done rather well on the Wii? Colors did well, which made the decision to not have a Wii version of Generations a strange one.

"Wii U is kind of a special case," said the Sonic Racing director. "The way the player interacts with the device is very different than any other device out there. So if I were to make a game for the Wii U, it would have to be a unique game."

amiright? ;P

It's pretty clear that there is a Wii U version of the game

GC: In terms of the formats the game's on, has Nintendo told everyone not to announce Wii U games? Because it seems impossible to imagine this, and various other recently announced games, aren't going to be on it.

JN: I couldn't possibly tell you. [laughs]

GC: You couldn't tell me because you know or because you don't know?

JN: [laughs] I… couldn't possibly tell you. But I agree with you, wouldn't it be a great idea to get this onto a platform like the Wii U!

http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/8...g-transformed-preview-and-interview-sega-kart

They can't announce anything if Nintendo wants everything locked down until E3.

E3 predictions, anyone? BY2K made a thread, but there isn't much discussion. And I know we're all about discussion in here ;)

What we will see:

-Wii U media blow out. We'll get our first look at the 3D Mario title.
-Pikmin 3 revealed. Will be released at Wii U launch window (not launch).
-New Super Mario Bros Mii will be there for launch, maybe as a pack in game so it doesn't go head to head with NSMB2.
-Wii U Sports (equivalent) will be announced, and if NSMB Mii isn't bundled with the console, this will be.
-Retro's new game revealed. Probably a new IP aimed at the COD audience.
-Zelda 3DS by EAD3 will be revealed. Graphics and gameplay will be similar to OOT 3D.
-No price, no date, no specs. However...
-The console will be slightly more powerful than PS3, while streaming a 480p image to the controller. It will be the Dreamcast to N64 (PS3 and 360).
-We won't be able to transfer our Virtual Console games from the Wii over to Wii U.
-Smash 4 teaser.
-Yoshi game by Good Feel for Wii or 3DS.
-HD Collections/HD Virtual Console games will be announced, starting with Wind Waker/Zelda HD Collection at launch. GC virtual console for Wii U announced.
-The Classic Controller Pro+ will be announced. Available at launch, it will have analog triggers and be required for Gamecube virtual console games. It will also be compatible with Wii U games.

What I'd love to see, but am not holding my breath:

-Retro is working on the next console Zelda title. Last year's tech demo was by them, and the game will be ready next year.
-New F-Zero. Not sure which team will be working on it (Was going to say SEGA, not sure anymore considering their recent problems). Thanks to minimal use of the controller screen, the game will be capable of 60 FPS, 1080p and 30 player online races. As F-Zero was the showcase of SNES' power, F-Zero U will do the same for Wii U
-New name, the box will look different, and the controller will have analog sticks and analog triggers.
-GIGATON: Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be shortened to Final Fantasy XV, and will also be available for Wii U. Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 will see a release on Wii U as well, the same day it ships for PS3.

Am I missing anything obvious?

They say (hope) that it's due to NDAs. But if it's multi-platform stuff, I don't see the harm. "Coming for everything... but Wii U" is not the impression, even subliminally, you want your product to have. Just announce it if it's on PS360 and don't talk about added features till E3 and everyone should be happy. Otherwise, it just starts a feeling that Wii U won't have 3rd parties on board. Something Nintendo (especially with their track record) can't afford.

Everybody who expects Smash at E3 never played Smash - those games are massive and of stellar quality. You could get a teaser next year.

Altough, thinking about it, Smash is actually coming to E3 - on a different platform with different characters :lol

I think it's possible (though unlikely) that Nintendo got someone outside of Project Sora to whip-up a CG trailer for E3 showcasing some new characters that have already been decided, just to generate as much hype as possible.

I'm betting at best we'll get a generic "Smash Bros." logo with no subtitle on a page with various other logos such as Mario Kart and the like.

I said the same thing a while back, but I really doubt it if Sakurai didn't have a hand in it in any way. I'm expecting a teaser for Smash 4 next year.

I think if it did happen he would have a hand in it, only in terms of deciding what characters are shown though. Like I said, I think it's not likely, but it's not impossible either.

It was just weird that Iwata announced it at last year's E3 (Wii U and 3DS). I know the mastermind behind it was busy with Kid Icarus, but certainly a studio could have been developing major pieces without him. Game play stuff can be tweaked when he's ready, after all. Iwata telling everyone not to expect it any time soon while talking about it on the show floor in the first place... I dunno. Maybe he was building that up to surprise people and drop the bomb this year.

i think it was a case of general new hardware hype building. Kind of how Brawl came to be in the first place.

Yeah, but according to Sakurai change will come to Smash. It seems like he has more to do than deciding what characters should be in.

"I intend to change direction a little as we go," Sakurai said, indicating his desire to possbily find a new mechanic or idea to drive two new entries in the series. "The key to that's going to be its dual support for 3DS/Wii U."

I don't see anything but a mention this E3.

I think it's possible.
We saw a trailer for Brawl in 2005, three years before its official release
I'm not expecting anything about it tho. A logo maybe but that's it.
They can save it for next years E3

2006, actually.
It was announced 2005, which was when Sakurai learned about it. Development began that October.

They had 7 months of work before we saw the trailer.

We're expecting Sakurai to produce one in 4? Idk...

Speaking of the whole two screen aspect....
WE NEED A NEW EBA ON THE WII U!
It would be amazing!

Oh no please God! If ever there was a game that proves video games to be worthless junk, it's EBA. Oh, and Theatrythm :) How some one can conjure up something so hideous as that genre escapes me.
