It's a great endless game, but good God, the prices to unlock the other characters are ridiculous. You earn, on average, 20-30 coins per race, and the unlockables start at 10,000 coins. The game just isn't interesting enough to play that many times to unlock shit.

yeah i don't really treat this game as an unlockable game :) but i hear you - i've played about 20 times now... i've got about 2000 coins... lol...

Airplay gaming doesn't actually work or feel good for anybody, does it?

What I mean is...yeah, I can get the video output to my TV and just see certain controls on my iPad, but in no way at all is it playable. The latency is very noticeable and the frame rate is poor.

Yes i think that's what people don't understand about airplay... devs are just touting it as an extra feature but its not really useful unless you design for it, i mean how is anyone supposed to watch two screens at once (DS is different! you have tactile buttons)

If anyone here likes trivia games, might I suggest our game sQuiz: Reel Trivia for Airplay. It works great because if you play with a bunch of people one person holds the iPhone or iPad and everybody shouts answers when the question comes up.

Plus there are no latency issues with a trivia game....

Yeah I don't know how they are going to fix that latency issue with real time response games like Real Racing. Airplay obviously isn't made as a controller just yet, but its a kind of cool concept.

For concept development for future games, we did think of using the iPhone like a Wii-mote with airplay, so who knows... maybe thats where airplay is heading...

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
Asking again for new page, but if I have a 4S, should I still get the iphone "Pocket RPG" version or does the universal have 4S-opimized assets?

New Star Soccer got another update yesterday, really worth checking it out if you haven't already. This update improved another huge list of things you didn't even realise needed improving (for example teammates will actually try and avoid aiming directly at the keeper when you go for an assist) and added international tournaments. Each time this has been updated I've read through the list of changes and felt like it's been tailored directly to what I've been feeling playing through. The developer must really be paying attention to feedback.

There's no mention in either description, really, to distinguish the two versions other than the fact one can be played on iPad. I got the iPhone version, and it looks and runs great on my 3GS.

I love NSS, but I'm kind of amused at the progression of the team mates over the three releases.

Initial Release: Teammates randomly aim and don't often got shots on target.
First Big Update: Teammates randomly aim at the goal and often hit it right at the goalie.
Now: Teammates don't aim at the keeper.

At this rate I expect the next update to include "Teammates will avoid hitting the ball into a defender right next to them when shooting".

Do IAPs work across multiple accounts on the same device?

I ask because I'm still having the strange problem with New Star Soccer where as soon as I sign into my account, the app closes.

Nothing I've tried has worked so far, so all I can think of now is to make a second UK account, and try and purchase the career mode through that. If this worked, would I be able to sign back into my main UK account and play the career mode, or would I need to be signed into the second account for it to work?

It should, I have New Star Soccer on my iPhone with my personal account which I used to buy the IAP, then I have an iPad for work which has its own account, I just signed in with my personal account to restore the IAP and it worked fine.

Thanks! Although I'm not sure if this would work in that case, as the restore will cause the game to crash on my iPad. Really not sure what the problem is, it seems as soon as I hit 'OK' on my password, something happens in the game that it can't handle and it shuts down.

I may still try this though, because with downloading the IAP to the same iPad as my main account is on, I guess it might still allow me to play on both accounts.

I primarily play on my iPad, and I've had trouble restoring the IAP onto my iPhone. Not a big deal because the tiny screen would make the game very difficult.

Has it been the same problem for you? I can't really explain it very well, but when the box to enter my Apple ID pops up, I enter my password, press Confirm and then the app crashes, just closes itself down and puts me back to the home screen. Every time I start it after that, it closes down just as it starts to load the main menu, so I have to delete and reinstall it to get it to start again.

Has anyone played Big Win Hockey? I saw it mentioned out Kotaku, and it sounded interesting. It's a Sim Management hockey game:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/big-win-hockey/id482224614?mt=8

Not a fan of "freemium" titles, but I'm a huge hockey fan. If it's anything like New Star Soccer, then that'd be awesome.

There is a Big Win Soccer too. I never played it, but I talked to people who did who said that it is a lot of fun, but once you hit the paywall you're stuck where you are and will probably be done with it. From what I heard, it is worth playing until then.

It's fairly obvious what it is, so if you like pushing blocks, you'll like this because it's good. Your goal is to get the numbered block to fall into the hole before it runs out of moves. Normally you move one space at a time but the blue squares are clearly ice, so you can guess what's going on there. Yeah, I like it a lot, but I love this stuff anyway

Seeing Trials Evolution on Giant Bomb got me pretty excited about that kind of game so I thought I'd give Motoheroz a go as I saw it a little earlier in the thread and it was only 69p. Christ is that game hard! I just couldn't find the fun in it with such a brutally punishing level of difficulty. You need a preternatural level of precision if you want to beat the levels on anything over 1 star.

Is there anything out there kind of like Motoheroz but less ball-bustingly hard? I don't mind a challenge, just not a kill-yourself level of challenge.

Bike Baron is rubbish, but it's the best thing in the genre on iOS. The platform is simply not suited to this kind of thing, there are at least 20 Trials-like games and they're all terrible. BB is just the least-worst.

Dungeon Village is released on the JP AppStore, with the usual english language option built in. Quite hesitant devoting any decent amount of time to it, due to my experience with Epic Astro Story, but so far it seems to have the same ridiculous amount of micro-management that I don't really care for.

Anyone seen Gene Effect? This one came out of left field. Looks pretty dang cool.

Noticed that too...having absolutely LOVED Waking Mars it piqued my interest...the website says there are 3 storylines interleaved...
Waiting for some more impressions before buying (on TA they're saying it's quite good).

Was JUST about to pull the trigger on this until i discovered that it's not Universal. SD-Only 2x, I"m afraid...

Yeah, I'm finishing up Waking Mars right now (also think it's fantastic), and this looks like it would make a nice contrast to it gameplay-wise. Gonna wait for a sale, though, as I'm broker than hell.

If I could only afford one...waking Mars or super bros?

Waking Mars seems to have a much broader appeal and is an easier rec to make without hesitation.

Some people don't , and won't, "get" Super Bros...but I'd rec that one if you are either a major stoner or really hot about things artsy and/or obscure.

Neither of them are very high action games, fwiw
(I'm fairly early on in Waking Mars, tho)

I tried the lite version of Bike Baron and thought Trials Xtreme 2 blew it outta the water. I prefer TX2 to Trials HD even.

Lol. I didn't know there were games catered towards stoners.

Wellll ... if it were a subgenre this would be the poster child, I assure you.

It is all very, emmm,
"...duuuuuuddde..just. so. totally. cool. dude..."

But its a fuckawesome game, imo.
Just defo not every ones cup of tea....it is unlike any other game I've encountered and definitely a gamer's game that does not hold your hand very much at all and demands you interact with the game on its own terms.
Which all sounds kind of nonsensical, I guess.

It is certainly an experience and probably one of my fave iOS games so far....but I was pretty baked while playing, so I dunno.
lol

Do gift apps on My Free Apps come back if they're removed? I saved up for Plants vs Zombies, got enough credits and went to grab it, and it's gone. Also, would Amoebattle be universal?

I've seen the Apple made apps come and go, so I assume yes. Amoebattle is universal.

First one worth playing or skip to the second?

Gameplay wise they are pretty much identical. I would actually recommend the first one over part 2 since there are more levels for it right now and and it has a set of "Impossible Missions" that are challenging but fair levels that are fun as hell to try and perfect.
