I don't think it's possible for CG cars to look much worse than this.

Other than that, it was a pretty good episode.

It's clearly got too many frames per second!

The fear of impending R2 doom and your acting had me scared there for a moment, Ledouche. You're definitely not Light. With him, we always knew it was keikaku. With you, everything's uncertain.

But thank the heavens it was keikaku. I think they finally found someone worse than Shirley. At least she's just a secondary character, while this kid is
freaking overpowered and basically this arc's main villain.
It was good to find out that his
Geass doesn't actually stop time, though, making him vulnerable to bullets. I can already imagine his glorious death scene.

And now we get Suzaku
back in school!
Yay! That's going to be hard to pull.

It's clearly got too many frames per second!

I like how its wheels don't turn at all.

A minor bump in the road of keikaku

Okay, we got some mecha battling in this one. Also a tragic story of a
Rolo born with Geass to kill people on Easy Mode
Yaddayaddayadda

The important thing is that Ledouche tricked Rolo into thinking he had
family and a place where he truly belonged
in order to gain his powerful mecha! It's bound to bite him in the ass, but until then, keikaku is as good to watch as ever.

That's the LeDOUCHE I've enjoyed watching from R1!

This is actually true. Normally these days, CGI animators will match the framerate of the CG elements with the hand-drawn ones, so that they at least match in that regard. This one has a full framerate which clashes with the kids who are drawn on twos, in addition to the terrible lighting and weightless animation.

People on MAL rate shows after a single episode regardless of whether they like it or hate it, though. At least the site has a countermeasure against this that doesn't include a member's score in a show's overall metascore if the member has seen less than 20% of the series, but the point here is that it's kind of disturbing to see just how many people need to have a number slapped on a series as quickly as possible.

It's some kind of strange compulsion mixed with a total lack of comprehension of the concept of critical analysis, though that probably describes the entire MAL culture. I don't really value MAL reviews or metascores, but as one of the major internet hubs of English-language anime fandom I suppose that it warrants discussion sometimes.

Ive never honestly taken user reviews for anime seriously, especially not on MAL or Animesuki and the like. The site is still a good catalogue for shows that you have seen etc though

The concept of "blending" is foreign to animators

Magical Girls doing tsundere things

This episode had better animation than the previous 2, though it still isn't close to HeartCatch's level.

the sooner Aria the Minor die horrible deaths, the better

Kanade, don't be so stupid,
trust Hibiki more. :(

Hibiki >>> Kanade.

They must have reused that cake-making animation 5 times or so. Toei so lazy.

Music in this episode was quite good as well, some of the background music is a little boring, but the main themes are all good.

The transformations in Suite aren't that great, I know Mad Pierrot likes them because of the ribbons, but when 80% of the time the ribbons are CG it kills the effect for me. :(

I do like the special attack though, even if it is just
the standard beam attack Precures always start out with.

Oh, yeah! I'm going to need a lot of pictures for this one.

It all started pretty well. Introducing two new mechs (with at least one of them being awesome)... I guess they were really betting a lot on toy sales this season, since there was a lot less Pizza Hut around.

But, in reality, this wasn't an action episode. It was one one of those episodes!

It had it all. Cat chases, giant pizzas being cooked by Nightmares, a lot of confusion, Shirley being inappropriate, a ~loli mech commander~ (30 episodes too late), and glorious fanservice!

CC is still undefeatable, though. She even maintains the class.

These episodes are where it's at.

Rolo told Ledouche
about his Achilles' heel... And Suzaku used Ledouche's against him in the cliffhanger.
The result:

Stop that pizza-making mecha!

I am still aghast by how stupid, yet entertaining the school episodes are. I haven't seen a single school-centric episode that has made me go to sleep.

Pizza-making robos, more close calls to hide identity, more fan seeeeervice~ (one of Kallen's best scenes yet) and the finishing of
Rolo's indoctrination
(or so it seems! DUN DUN DUUUNN), C.C. covered in sweet tomato sauce and more terrible Shirley (but only a bit).

The new mech, "Tristan" is SICK.

As usual, the end hanger
(Nunally going to be a high ranker in Area 11)
has me wondering "WHAT HELL IS GOING TO HAPPEN THIS TIME!"

Move over, Akio. There's a new pimp in town.

Sailor Moon S 101

Now Haruka is picking up Usagi? Is there no end to this debauchery!? Awesome daimon design ruined by a shoe on her head. :(
Usagi had the first talisman??? I should've have expected it but still!
I didn't realize how much I missed Tuxedo Mask speeches too. Seems like some older music was featured too which would make sense as this feels like an episode from an earlier series. And it's a 2 parter?!

Sailor Moon S 102

Clever Usagi. Haruka's apparent transition in the tunnel was neat.
Oh damn not a talisman after all.
...
oh my god, Minako stole the scene with her Sailor Moon impersonation.
Best girl. EP ends up feeling like something out of the end of a series. So good.

Sailor Moon S 103

Ikuhara ep? Ikuhara ep.

XyyRF.gif

Ikuhara eps always seem to highlight great force in actions or so it seems to me. The new girl's gun to steal talismans is a perfect example of this. Transition from S animation to Mar's chastise routine is rather offputting. And the "triumphant" return of
Chibi-Usa
Holy fuck :lol

This guy's design is such a right blend of creepy and comical.

Nothing wrong with a little physical comedy.

Pure class.

The transformations in Heartcatch have vastly superior animation quality, so it's really just my personal preference Suite's music and for the actual transformation mechanics (ribbons vs. spray-on costume) that makes me speak well of Suite's transformations. Oddly, I never found the CG distracting, probably because it's really fluid.

They're fluid, yes, but when I'm watching Sailor Moon and I see the beautiful fluid hand drawn ribbons there, Suite just can't compare. Also, the transformation itself is rather boring, the sequence is too short and doesn't focus enough on each part.

So to Usagi's dismay, Lawrence of Arabia
isn't actually Mamoru.

And, her tiara no longer works! Poor Usagi. :(

At least she got some quality time in with Mamoru,
even though his memories of his beloved still haven't returned.

jDbcF.jpg

In-Show Advertising was still plaguing shows even back then :(

Poor Minako, Rei, Makoto, and Ami were stuck in that line for so long and they didn't even get to use the Virtual Reality Theatre in the end.

Anyway, with a broken tiara, I'm hoping she'll get new powers or a new transformation soon. It's an Ikuhara episode next time, I'm expecting great things!

Everything is inferior to hand-drawn, though!

I do realize that the transformations in Suite don't do the traditional shots of each piece of the costume as they materialize, but for me, it's kind of, I don't know, glamorous that way. I don't want to use the word classy because it would imply that other transformation sequences aren't, but I like the focus on the entire body rather than individual parts. I might be making baseless accusations here, but I've always kind of assumed that one of the things that attracts the...erm...unintended elements of the mahou shoujo fanbase is that transformations that chop up the girl into arms and legs and torso and such are seen as a sort of male-gaze objectification rather than the harmless showcase of cute clothing that the normal audience for these shows view the scene as.

I think that part of my problem is that I saw several parody mahou shoujo transformation sequences in various anime that had gratuitous pantsu shots and such, so when I finally got around to watching actual shows in the genre I struggled not to feel creeped out by transformations at first until I was finally able to accept their innocence.

A pretty balanced episode overall. It didn't have fun mindfucks or silliness, but it also wasn't rotting because of Shirley or Rolo. Instead, all we got was kickass mech action.

And now that Kallen's Gurren Mk-II has got
wings and a vector cannon
, shit's on.

I don't know how I feel about Nunnally. She's so oblivious to everything happening around her that it's basically impossible to judge her actions. As Ledouche's mind properly pointed out in a scene in this episode, she did remind me a little bit of
Euphie in her last sane moments
, but there's no stupidity or naïvety in her thoughts. She's simply clueless.

I'm totally fine with Ledouche doing everything to protect her, though, and I felt that
NTR in the end
hitting him deep.

But, yeah. 6 episodes in and this is still the good ol' Code Geass I've known for a week. I'm anxiously waiting for some more insanity on the level of R1 22.

It was about time for some jam-packed mech action!

Ledouche is hunting for
Nunally, but the situation based on her is not what he expects!
Meanwhile, Kallen's Guren, TouDou's samurai fighter and pretty boy's Tristan are wrecking shop.

Some warriors were slain, but such is a price of war.

Rackshata
sure does know her tech.
As if the Guren wasn't freakin' beastly enough! And the sweet return of Lloyd who is around to react to all the mecha fighting porn he sees before him!

Overall, solid action-story based episode, but Ledouche's main problem still remains. It still feels like R1 to me, not a bad thing, but it makes me ever more nervous about possible future *gulp* possibilities!

And now, Envelope can never complain about the little error in Ami's Shabon Spray attack ever again.

Naru and Umino
finally get an episode for the first time in an entire season just for it to be a dumb gimmick episode? Ugh. Not much to discuss.

OH SHIT

I JUST REALIZED

HARUKA IS
THE FEMALE AKIO
NOOOOOOO

I went back and watched this scene again while also playing this song in the background. Many laughs were had.

Makoto yuri
episode? It's like it was tailor-made to my tastes. I cherished every moment, even if
Makoto ended up learning the opposite lesson that she was supposed to learn! Haruka was supposed to prove that it's okay not to be feminine, but Makoto somehow ends up trying on cute clothing at the end of the episode. Bad Makoto
.

X16pql.jpg

The good kind of Chibiusa.

Also significant: the fact that
the Daimon was able to extract Makoto's heart crystal
is the ultimate proof that
yuri is pure
!

Rei, on the other hand...

The music in Suite is really good, fortunately, since it's all about music! I would rank it right up with HeartCatch's OST.

Ugly CG aside, I really like the Odette II design. They need more close up shots of it.

Not enough Chiaki but Marika saved the episode.

These high school students aren't filler characters are they? Not that they are bad but I want to see the crew of the Bentenmaru instead. The technobabble and tactics and stuff were good in this episode.

Odette II is one of the best designs in it, as well as the Bentenmaru.

Youll see the classmates a bit since she is still a student with like a year of school left

Amazing episode, especially the second half. The soundtrack continues to impress. The amount of heartwarming-ness it delivers is insurmountable. Space Bros continues to be my favorite show of the season.
