Consoles you've regretted buying?

Mostly just the 3DS but a little the Wii too. Not a jab on Nintendo of course as I grew up on Nintendo machines but I can't help but to ask, "Where's the beef" when it comes to recent Nintendo helpings.

Atari Lynx (good but not an handheld)
Nintendo 64 (too expensive)
Microsoft Xbox (did not like it...)
Nintendo Wii (dustcollector)
Probably Nintendo 3DS... (I have 3 games and a lot of dust...)

I've never regretted buying a console for myself, but I have regretted helping my girlfriend buy a 360. She bought it to play games with me, but we quickly realized that unless she wanted to play shooters or similar "core"-driven genres with me there wasn't a whole lot.

We've ended up playing Mario Kart and Animal Crossing on the Wii together more than anything on the 360.

Have you played Kid Icarus yet? That's not just some beef, that's some steak.

None yet, based on the software anyway. Being too young to have my own money to spend during the early to mid 90s undoubtedly helped. I've gotten pretty much everything of note since then. ("of note" does not include game.com or n-gage :p)

I bought a used Game Boy Light last year and... man, what a disappointment. Had the screen actually been visible in low/no-light without causing mega eye strain I might've loved it.

The Nintendo DS. I hardly played any games on it, and the Pokémon games were less addicting than in the past. Might also consider the Wii but I had a lot of fun with it during my university years. (A lot of girls wanted to play on it.) although I haven't played it since 2009 or something like that. One console is enough to fill my time nowadays.

3ds and Wii currently. 3ds has been on a dry spell and I haven't really touched the Wii since I got it. Loved 3DS at first, but there hasn't been anything for me since Resident Evil Revelaitons.

Considering the whole lifecycle none, considering launch..
Psp and vita.. Wii comes at Third place cose bieca use even with Zelda i was caught offguard by the sheer difference in terms of graphic... Plus playing Wii on LCD was a painful experience
To be really honest launch vita is in a better position than launch psp, but none of the new (non port, non re makes) are clicking with me.

Original Xbox. It had a few exclusive games I liked. Crimson Skies, KOTOR, Riddick, Deus Ex 2, Breakdown, but it really wasn't worth it. Sold it after it sat for an entire year untouched while my PS2 saw daily use. Never bought a 360 because I foresaw the same thing happening, as much as I'd like to play Lost Odyssey. I use my PS3 every day.

Xbox360. I knew I'd hate it though but it was my only option for mutliplatform games being fucked over on ps3. Skyrim being a good example.

Got 99 problems and only one of them is a waifu
Gamecube. The only games I really cared for were Tales of Symphonia and Fire Emblem.

The only console I truly regretted to have purchased would be the original Gameboy Advance. What a crapy screen, unless you were directly under a strong light source. Thank-goodness the GBA SP solved that issue and made a much nicer console to hold and transport.

Xbox 360

Bought it for a few key exclusives (and because it was cheaper than a PS3 at the time), but they proved to disappoint. I was also not a fan of paying for a service that should be free.

Since everyone is ignoring the current consoles part: Both the PS3 and the 360.

Had to call to get a credit card taken off. Implicitly supported paying a door fee for online gaming and shoddy dpads (picked up a crappy fight stick 3 which Microsoft probably gets a licenesed) because even somthing like DOA is chore on that dpad.

The PS3. Bought in too early. And I always figured the 2 consoles were comparable. The differences this generation are definitely minimal compared to last generation, but the floor on frame rates has gotten so low (despite this generation being so action focused) that a lot of PS3 stuff for the last 2 years has been fairly rancid.

The Mario Galaxy games, Skyward Sword, Xenoblade, and Metroid Prime Trilogy justifies any Wii purchase as far as I'm concerned.

And no, I've never regretted buying a console. Although, I do regret buying the 3DS at its original price, but I still love the system itself.

Gamecube and Wii. Both of these consoles just did nothing for me. Not enough games I was interested in and I spent most of my time on the other systems.

The Vita. The problem wasn't the console itself, but the fact that I bought it as an impulse without considering if I will really play it. I sold it.

Wii would have been my answer six months ago, but I've been playing it a heck of a lot lately and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I actually bought some of these games for it earlier.

Other than that I can't really think of anything besides maybe my original DSi. I already had a DS Lite and the XL came out a few months after I bought it.

Probably the Master System. It's not about regret from purchasing, but rather I regret that I probably never put more than 1-2 hours on any single game (save maybe Sonic 1). I've yet to finish a single game on it ever.

I know it's a great console, but I still struggle with a single game I need to boot up on it. Ideas are welcome, though...

I am not sure how unique the situation is, but I sort of regret buying a PSP at this point. I've owned one since 2008 but I've only purchased like 4 games for the thing. It's not even that I don't think it has games (I mean it is JRPG central pretty much which is why I wanted it) but with the Vita now out I would rather buy that and just buy the games on there.

Bums me out when I think about it really because otherwise I am happy with every console I've ever purchased.

Penguin Land was fun for custom levels, for me it was:

Phantasy Star
Golvellius (prolly ages poorly)
Zillion
Outrun/after burner/space harrier etc (but you can get better on later systems)
Ghost House?

some light gun and 3D games were fun but you gotta have the parts.

I suppose getting a second PSP was a bit unnecessary since it's so easy to switch between custom and official firmware these days. It's prettier though and it wasn't expensive at all.

3DS. I bought it after I bought my Vita thinking the two would go well together (given how barren releases are for both)

The Vita is the only gaming device I take with me on the go. My 3DS has literally been collecting dust the past month. Doesn't look like that will change over the summer either.

Just to expand a bit, it's a bit of a hassle to make sure both devices are charged and to carry them both in a bag. The Vita's screen is pretty enough as it is, but it's absolutely gorgeous next to the quite poor 3DS screens. The 3DS cramps my hands so much, but the Vita is the right size and form, I prefer the buttons and overall feel completely. Not having to deal with the hassle of changing game cards (although having the luxury to do so as well) and a game library I already prefer strongly over the 3DS even though it was released a year later. The whole 3DS experience has left me with a very sour impression of Nintendo overall.

Xbox 360.

It's degenerated into a box that offers crap exclusives with a newly placed focus on crap motion games and apps as it's trying to make itself over as a family-living-room-media-box. An absolute waste of space and money. I'll never bother with another Microsoft console again.

Original Game Boy - couldn't see a damn thing on that awful blurry dim screen. Game Boy Pocket was a revelation - I could actually SEE what was going on! Suddenly the games were fun.

Nintendo 64 - I already had a PSX and a Dreamcast, I just wanted to play Super Mario 64 and Waverace. I think I spent less time with that console than any other I've ever owned. It was more a matter of timing than the console itself really.

Every portable platform I bought (PSP, DS, iTouch). Portable gaming just doesn't work for me. Well, at least the iPod can play music.
